Ever wonder what happens "behind the scenes" of paranormal investigations, ghost tours and haunted overnights? Ever wonder what happens when ghost hunters visit places that are so haunted that even they get scared? If so, then delve into the further adventures, and misadventures, of author Troy Taylor and the American Ghost Society's Len Adams as they recount their own personal experiences with ghosts, hauntings, haunted places, ghost tours and more. Discover these fascinating, often humorous and usually chilling first-hand accounts of some of the most haunted places in America, including the Villisca Ax Murder House, Eastern State Penitentiary, the Illinois town of Alton - one of the most haunted small towns in America, Lemp Mansion, Bell Witch Cave, Myrtles Plantation, Waverly Hills Sanatorium and many others! It's another look at the "confessions" of ghost hunters and the perfect addition to your library!
I really enjoyed reading this account to learn a lot of "behind the scenes" information about doing ghost tours and exploring haunted locations. At times the narrative feels a bit disjointed. Sometimes the POV jumps from one author to the other and I had trouble keeping track of which one was telling the story. But I really enjoyed learning about how a ghost tour company evolves and also enjoyed reading about the history of each place before the author talked about the haunted aspects of the location in the present day.
I didn't seek out this book, I came across it used and picked it up on a whim. But I enjoyed it and if I come across any others by these authors I will pick them up as well.
I read a lot of paranormal genre books - both fiction and nonfiction - and I have to say that this book contains the best historical research on Eastern State, Wavery Hills and the Lemp Mansion of any I have read. While the parts of the book that addressed actual investigations was quite interesting, even they paled compared to the extremely well-documented background information.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about ghost hunting and even for skeptics who are interested in the history of some of the allegedly most-haunted locations in the U.S.
