Not everyone's cup of tea, but the book is a thorough look inside the day to day of life in the various palaces, castles, and country homes of the BRF. Meals, dress, protocol, and leisure pursuits are all covered in great detail. As it was written over 30 years ago, it will not give you an accurate account of what life in the firm looks like now on an average day. However, I do think it is an enjoyable and quick read perfect for lovers of Downton Abbey and fans of Upstairs/Downstairs type domestic history. As an historian, I definitely found this book to be a useful resource.
An interesting read which was unfortunately peppered with spurious claims, one imagines intended to make the author sound more informed and connected then is actually the case.
An excellent snapshot of Royal life circa the 1980's. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the traditions mentioned in this book are still practiced the same way, with little to no alterations, today as they were when this book was published. The recipes in the book are a nice touch and some of them I think I might try myself, just to see if I like them.
This wasa good book. It told about their country homes and a lot about the food the Royals eat. I might not read another book about the Royals for awhile.
