The brightest star in the Constellation Scorpio is the brilliant double sun Antares, around which orbits the inhabited planet called Kregen. Kregen is an Earthlike world, but strange, far stranger, than ours. For it is the scene of a conflict between galactic powers who utilize its many human nations and its astonishing variety of humanoid peoples as their battleground.
Dray Prescot of Earth had been a tool of those powers, but courage and ingenuity had won him a high role in the Vallian Empire and a certain independence of his own. Thus when a mysterious monster cult began to undermine the empire and when his own beloved princess became a victim of those secret schemers, Prescot had to go into action.
SECRET SCORPIO launches a new cycle in the magnificent history of Kregen and brings Prescot at long last into direct confrontation with the forces that had once dared make him their pawn.
In the Vallian cycle (Dray Prescott 15-18), the author hits the reset button in a major way. The following books (15 to 24 or so) largely revisit the same people, places, and themes as before. If you were looking for a place to stop, or at least pause, #14 is it. But if you want more of the same, fear not, there is much more to come.
If you are a John Carter of Mars fan or enjoy the "displaced person on another world" then this series is for you. The books run in long story arcs so you can read just a few to complete a plot line or go for the whole set. Akers creates a very complex world for the hero to adventure in. Recommended
I love these books, they're addicting. The author has a real talent for descriptive writing, including the action scenes, the various races, even the names he comes up with for stuff are great. Funny, action-packed, engaging, really well done.
