Title in English: Four Square Meters. Jailed Without the Sentence

Summary: Leila Eerits was arrested due to allegations in pimping. She ran a massage salon in Tallinn that provided, among other services, an erotic massage. Her salon was an official tax-paying business, with employees having work contracts that explicitly prohibited touching erogenous zones and providing sexual services. She spent 6 month in Tallinn prison and made a deal with the prosecutor.
The book is very readable and easy to follow. Yet, it leaves the feeling of incompleteness, as if the author conceals bits of vital information. I wanted and couldn't believe in the author's total innocence. Her arguments that there were many erotic massage salons around or that tantric practices were also closely connected to sex seem naive. Even if there, in the criminal code, the exact definition of what constituted pimping wasn't defined , operating an erotic massage salon looked like playing with fire.
The tricks of the inmates in Tallinn prison were the most interesting part. I read many memoirs about gulag, and the similarities/differences strike hard. Then and now, inmates have to invent many useful things from scratch and hide them from guards to avoid solitary confinement. The Morse code was the norm for the gulag; nowadays, prisoners use wire pulled through the ventilation system or plastic bags to establish contact between cells. There are lots of differences. Modern prisoners can refuse food; gulag prisoners starved to death. And no modern investigator would torture people under arrest, of course.
I have no doubt this story brought grief to the author and her family. However, it's still only 2.5 stars rounded to 2 for the book in general.
Kui me kirjastuses sellest loost kuulsime (olen raamatut kirjastanud kirjastuses tööl), siis võttis see ausalt öeldes pahviks. Ei saa ju selline lugu võimalik olla? Aga tundub, et saab. Neli ruutmeetrit. Just nii palju sai loo autor endale betoonist elamispinda. Ta neli aastat vana poeg jäi pooleks aastaks ilma emata. Miks korraldati sellele naisele nn näidispoomine? Milline on elu Eesti vanglas 2010ndate teises pooles?
