Natsuki Takaya (高屋 奈月 Takaya Natsuki, real name Naka Hatake) is the penname of a Japanese manga artist best-known for creating the series Fruits Basket. She was born on July 7, 1973; (Tanabata). Takaya is left-handed and once revealed that she wanted to be a mangaka since first grade, when her sister started drawing.
She was born in Shizuoka, Japan, but was raised in Tokyo, where she made her debut in 1992. She enjoys video games such as the Final Fantasy series or Sakura Wars, or working on her different manga series, such as Fruits Basket, which is the second best-selling shōjo manga ever in Japan, and the top selling shōjo manga in North America. I feel like I should've read this in a day like I did with Vol 1, but I kind of misplaced it for a few weeks...
Anyways, this was absolutely precious, just like the rest of this series. In this issue, we get to meet a few new faces - Momiji, Hatsuharu, and Ayame, most notably - and learn some fantastic back story on a few Sohma members (specifically the heartbreaking tale of Momiji's mother, and the horrible abuse that Yuki has undergone at the hands of Akito). We start to see some interesting feelings coming from both Yuki and Kyo, as well as commemorating a tearful first anniversary of Tohru's loss of her mother.
I love this series so damn much.

The artwork, the sexy characters, the story...ahhh, I’m in heaven!
This second volume carries on from the first and we are introduced to more members of the Sohma clan and therefore the zodiac. I'm loving the addition of Hatsuharu and really glad that Momiji is featured more - he is SO adorable!! I'm also intrigued by (and slightly scared of) Ayame - I feel that he will have a large part to play somewhere down the line. Of course, there's Kyo and Yuki at it again but their little spats are hilariously cute *heart swells with emotion*
THIS MANGA WILL APPEAL TO EVERYONE so if you haven't already picked it up, you really need to. And I mean NOW!

The deeper I delve into this world, and the more I get to know these characters, the more I love this series. It's only been two volumes and I'm already convinced that this is one of my favorites

Cada vez estoy más metida en esta historia, ¡y hay que ver lo mucho que me estoy divirtiendo! Es muy fácil conectar con los personajes, tal vez porque son bastante peculiares y están un poquito de la olla, pero el caso es que lo estoy disfrutando un montón. Tengo curiosidad acerca del misterio que ronda a ciertos personajes, y estoy in love con la evolución que están sufriendo otros.

I find Fruits Baskets kinda similar to Stargirl and Pollyanna because in all of those books the main character (Stargirl, Pollyanna, Tohru), is very kind and generous and are always themselves and I admire those kind of characters the most because I’m low key jealous they can be that kind to everyone including total idiots.

The overall hope and optimism of not only Tohru Honda, but numerous people in this story, is something that is a breath of fresh air. I know that this is marked as YA, but some of the jokes, especially everything around Ayame and Shigure, were much more adult. There is also the jokes about Shigure being attracted to high school girls that did not age well in the 10 years since this was originally published. In terms of the overall plot, we finally get a scene with Akito and get to see their true nature. The way that Akito terrorizes Yuki and threatens to lock him away and then calling Tohru ugly and dumb, it is clear who the villain is in this story. This collector’s editions ends with some more mystery around Kyo and feelings of guilt around her mother. Overall, a 4 star edition.

LA SEGUNDA PARTE DE LA FAMILIA SOMA.
No les puedo contar mucho porque ya serían spoilers, lo que si deben de saber es lo siguiente:
Honda un día se termina yendo a vivir con la familia Soma, la familia del chico más popular y guapo de su escuela. Pero esa familia esconde varios secretos y es que se pueden transformar en los animales de zodíaco chino. Honda va a terminar descubriendo su secreto y tener que guardarlo mientras existen un romance entre ella y dos integrantes de esta peculiar familia.
En este segundo tomo se empieza a desenvolver más la historia de Honda y conocemos a más integrantes de la familia Soma. Sigo sin entender muy bien cuál va a ser el gran conflicto porque sigo sintiendo que estoy en la parte del inicio de la historia.
La sentí un poco floja en varias partes, pero igual de adictiva.

I'm still not fully connecting with this series, but I REALLY like Yuki and can say that he has my interest pique where I want to keep reading specifically because of him. (Though there have been nuggets with Kyo that I am very curious about.)

The art is really pretty in this book but way to jumbled. It was hard to figure out what was going on in a lot of the frames. And it was really difficult to read the actual words, there were so many speech bubbles crammed into some pages that I couldn't tell who was saying what. I am a big fan of the original anime but if I hadn't already seen it I don't think I would understand let alone enjoy most of this book.

Cuando Toru era una pequeña niña su madre siempre le contaba la historia de los doce animales del zodiaco chino. En ese momento de inocencia ella siempre compadeció al pequeño gato quien engañado por el ratón quedó fuera del zodiaco por lo cual prometió que siempre sería amiga del gato.
Lo que Toru jamás esperó ni en sus más locos sueños era que un día se iba a encontrar viviendo en la misma casa que el gato y el ratón, y que al refugiarse en la casa de los Soma iba a significar que conocería a los demás animales del zodiaco y a la maldición que los sigue.
El alma de Kyo muy sensible, igual que la de Yuki. Son tan frágiles que se rompen si las tocas.
En la reseña del tomo pasado les hablé de mis personajes favoritos de esta historia así que está vez no voy a fangirlear y les voy hablar de los demás animales del zodiaco.
Primero que todo tenemos a Shigure quien está poseído por el espíritu del perro. Shigure vive conjunto a Toru, Kyo y Yuki y sería algo así como el responsable de ellos. En apariencia suele ser un tipo relajado (quizá demasiado muchas veces) pero hemos visto que también hay oscuridad en él, así que tendremos que ir viendo a dónde lo guía esa oscuridad.
Hatori por su parte es el dragón quien en la actualidad se ha transformado en un caballito de mar para mimetizarse más con la época. Hatori como todos los doce ha tenido un pasado triste ya que su misión en vida siempre ha sido ser el doctor de los doce y su vida solo puede enfocarse en ello, es por eso que Akito le hizo perder a la mujer que amaba.
Kagura representa al jabalí y ella es a la menos conocemos por ahí. Solo sabemos que está enamorada de Kyo y ha sido la única que nunca lo deja en el olvido.
Hatsuharu o Haru es el buey quien está representado como una vaca. Por ahora no sabemos gran cosa de él, solo que siente gran cariño por Yuki y que tiene dos personalidades, la blanca donde es un chico ingenuo y muy inocente, y la negra donde se convierte en un matón busca pleitos.
Ayame es el hermano de sangre de Yuki y es la serpiente. Por ahora sabemos que en el pasado no fue un gran apoyo para Yuki pero está buscando cambiar eso y ganarse el cariño de su hermano. Debo decirles que Ayame me encanta porque es un personaje de lo más peculiar, es una extraña mezcla de perversión y estupidez que me hace reír cada que sale.
Finalmente hasta este tomo conocemos a Momiji, el conejo. Debo decirles que Momiji me encanta pues el clásico personaje moe, es decir que su apariencia y personalidad son las de un niño pequeño aun cuando ya tiene 16 años. Además de su dulce apariencia Momiji es quien más abierto se ve con Toru llegando a confesarle que a su mamá le borraron su recuerdo pues cuando él nació lo abrazó y se transformó en conejo y esto hizo que ella se volviera loca y tal cual hicieran con la mujer a la Hatori amaba borraron su memoria.
Es con esto con lo que me gustaría cerrar esta reseña y es que al parecer la maldición de los doce no solo afecta a los poseídos sino que toda la familia fuera de los Soma tienen que pagar por ello.

4.5/5 Fruits Basket Collectors Edition Volume 2 contains volumes 3 and 4 of the original manga. Volume 3 was good some levity during Valentines Day while the Sohma’s are plied with chocolate.
The real winner is the 4th volume which stabs you right in feels during the last couple chapters. Particularly Momiji and his familial back story. Poor bunny...
As you would expect you’re also introduced to a couple more Sohma’s but most of the secrets are yet to be revealed. We do however get the first actual appearance of Akito the head of the Sohma family. Which zodiac is he I wonder?

Meet the family
This collection (originally books three and four) is mostly concerned with meeting more of the Sohma clan, with hints of darkness over the horizon.
The art remains clean and basic. I'm having a little trouble telling some family members apart (there's a LOT of them) but it isn't a huge problem.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm honestly conflicted about translations in this volume.
For the most part, the updated translation isn't too different from the original Tokyopop, except for one big, obvious change. This version refers to Hatori, Shigure, and Ayame as "The Three Musketeers." Long-time Furuba fans will know it's the "Mabudachi trio" (which translates to "a trio of three friends" according to the collector's edition translator notes), and the untranslated nickname is what the original translation used. I suppose it makes sense to use an equivalent, but I've been so used to hearing them referred to as the Mabudachi trio that I genuinely was confused for a minute there ^^;;; My question is, though, why use "Three Musketeers" when you explain the Mabudachi trio in the translator notes anyway?
Anyway, over all this was probably a more loyal translation. Also, third time through, I'm at last noticing details and foreshadowing that I totally missed the first two times around. I'm wondering if that's due to quality of the Collector's Edition's translations that I'm finally picking up on Kyo's reaction to the grave visit when I totally missed this in the Tokyopop editions.
So, tl;dr, I stick by what I said with the first collector's volume that it's worth a read, even if you've already read the old release.

The 180 this book just had on me😭
I genuinely don't know what happened. The first one was soooo cute, wholesome and just full of warmth and friendship and life lessons and left me with a good feeling.
This one? This one made me visibly uncomfortable. The pedophilia (an older character named Shigure often mentions that he fantasizes about UNDERAGE girls in school uniforms and jokes about using every opportunity to visit the main characters school) was so unnecessary and disgusting but treated as humour. Also, there are many new characters that are introduced in this second manga and more than half of them are acting inappropriately towards Toru who is, again, an UNDERAGE girl.
All that just completely took out the magic and good feelings the first one had in my opinion. Although, I have to admit, it could be that I just didn't notice or even overlooked them before.
There are still some nice things and plot points in this but god I'm not sure if I want to continue reading 🙄

Vol. 3 - The latest Sohma family member Tohru meets is cool Haru Sohma while she, Kyo and Yuki are running during gym class and learn how he turns into a darker and tougher person when he gets angry. Valentine’s Day has arrived and we see some sweet and emotional moments. Spring has arrived and Tohru, Kyo, Yuki and Momiji all go on a hot springs trip where she meet the hostess who happens to be a mother of one of the cursed Sohmas and a feisty ping-pong match is played by Kyo and Yuki.
Vol. 4 - Volume four is full of surprises as our trio are now second-years with Momiji and Haru now attending their school and Haru creates attention while defending his cousin. The biggest surprise is a visit from Akito Sohma, the head of the Sohma family who meets Tohru and create uncomfortableness for Yuki and Kyo. If that wasn’t enough, later Yuki’s big brother Ayame who has the curse of the snake visits and can’t stop charming Tohru much to his obvious annoyance and even takes her to lunch. Later, Tohru and Momiji bond over their mothers on the anniversary of her mother’s death and learns about his family.
