Series: The 1797 Club #6
Publication Date: 3/27/18

Another winning read in Jess Michael’s 1797 Club series. This one is slightly different simply because we have never met this particular member of the club before and the members of the club don’t show up at all until we’re about half-way through the book. That was kind of nice because we got the opportunity to know the main characters before we started interacting with the other members of the club. That said, I think I would have enjoyed a bit m

This was a mixed read for me, where I essentially liked the characters individually and together as a couple, but I struggled with the pacing of the storyline, how events played out and connections that were acted on rather fast.

This book takes a trope I really enjoy ‘the wounded duke’, so I was excited to read about Lucas Willoughby. Lucas was a spy for the government and injured in espionage trying to unroot a traitor. His long-time friend and surgeon is killed. Months later he is

Lucas Vincent, Duke of Willowby, has been injured during a mission and has almost died. It has been six months and he still hasn't healed. Diana Oakford has been trained by her father, who is a doctor for the War Dept. She is asked to step in and see if she can help Lucas.
What great characters, they are so believable and vivacious. The plot is complicated, there are all kinds of twists to this story. There is danger, intrigue, and lies. I really enjoyed their first kiss and how it affected both

This series is lovely. It truly is. You really need to start at the beginning and read all the way through. Each story has something to treasure in it.

I LOVE spy novels. Especially historical ones. I also have a major weakness for “wounded warrior” stories. The injured soldier is my favorite troupe. This story was both, and I loved it. I mean, I’m still sitting here fanning myself. Whew. That was a good one.

They started by off rushing to bed quickly, and it was a little off putting for me. Not b

Another winner from Jess Michaels!!!

After tragedy strikes while on a mission Lucas needs healing, physically and mentally. As the daughter of a well known surgeon familiar with the ways of spies, Diana is the perfect person for the job. From the start these two had great chemistry that quickly boiled into something more.

It was nice having a different kind of heroine with Diana . The fact that she was a respected young women, but far from society was refreshing.
Both, Lucas and Diana, had secrets

I make no apologises for the gushing review, I've said it before and I'm going to say it again, this series is fantastic and just gets better and better.

I found this book slightly different to the other books, when I mean different that's good not bad. Because this book concentrates on Lucas and Diana, which for reasons that will be explained, we find out why he became a spy, and why they both have secrets.

Normally the other dukes and their wife's are in the background but in this one they don't

Death and sadness pursue Diana Oakford. A young woman with deep hurts and secrets, she is the daughter of a physician who worked with the War Department until his death when assisting in a mission to uncover a traitor amongst the Departments spies.
Lucas Vincent, the Duke of Willowby, has never taken up the reins of his titled position. Harboring deep secrets himself, he had thrown himself into a career as a spy for the government. He was badly injured when his

Lukas may be the Duke of Willowby, but in name only. He joined the war department and became a spy before he took over his duties. Leaving the only life he knew behind him for the excitement of being an undercover spy has left him battered and broken. He is trying to recover from a vicious attack and the daughter of his dead comrade, Diana Oakland, might be his saving grace.

I loved this book, it is definitely my favorite in this series so far. Lukas is everything you want in a leading man. He is

I received this book for free from Netgalley in order to prepare an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

FINAL DECISION: I enjoyed this book because of the relationship between Lucas and Diana. Some of the historical reality was lacking, but the cautious and slow unfolding of these characters made this book an enjoyable journey.

THE STORY: Lucas Vincent, Duke of Willowby, has been a spy for the crown for years. Grievously injured in his last assig

Lucas Vincent, Duke of Willowby is the youngest of the 1797 Club dukes and the most reclusive. He has not been a character in the previous books and has only been mentioned in passing by the other dukes. This book opens with Lucas being gravely injured along and his dear friend and surgeon for the war department, George Oakford being killed.

Six months later, Spymaster, Lord Stalwood comes to see Diana Oakford, George's daughter. He needs her help, Lucas is still alive, but his wounds have not he

I am an unabashed Jess Michaels fan and I eagerly await new instalments in the 1797 Club series. Thankfully Ms Michaels does not leave her fans waiting, publishing a new entry ever two months.

This 6th book in Jess Michael’s 1797 Club is about a wounded duke who has lived his life as a spy, and the daughter of a War Department doctor who trained alongside her now deceased father. When she ends up being the healer that is to take care of him and they find they have a mutual attraction, he is even more conflicted than he was. As Lucas starts to heal, they get even closer. This is a cracking series, I hate the wait for each new book! Ms Michaels is a fab author. She creates great characters and weaves engaging tales. I’m not sure how she is staying at the top of her game.

Here we have two strong and interesting characters. I really loved reading about a useful woman. Myself I felt the physicality of the relationship happened a little too fast or perhaps not enough insight.
The story for this book is perhaps the most intricate after all it’s about spies!!!!

I was feeling generous with the five stars, but at any rate, this book is HIGHLY enjoyable. It’s the kind of book that, if you happen to read it after a bunch of other books that don’t quite make the grade, makes you relax into the writing and think, “Oh. Right. This is how pleasurable reading should be.”

What can I say, I love Ms. Michaels’ stories. They pull you in, they are riveting, heartwarming and sigh-worthy. The loss that Lucas and Diana experience is devastating. Can they come back to be even a part of their former selves? Lucas and Diana learn to lean on each other for comfort and slowly love works its way into their hearts. They work together, sometimes reluctantly, to discover who the traitor is amongst Lucas’ den of spies. What they find out is not what they expected and can pull the ...more

OMG.... What a book. Another winner from Jess Michaels. The emotion was there, the hotness was there, the tension was there . It was refreshing to read about an Heroine that was not a wallflower anymore. Both characters had their secrets but it was good that they got revealed as the book progressed. Bring on the next book in the series.
I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review that is all my own.

This is a brilliant series, how the author manages to make each story completely different, keeping in line with past books is great .
She’s now one of my go to authors when I need a good romance.
Lucas is not one we’ve seen before , heard of yes , but he’s been absent from the Dukes Club , it’s been wonderful to get to know him and his background.
Diana is his perfect soulmate, and partner in all things .
She’s quiet but not particularly shy, gutsy but not obnoxious.

I liked the story of the spy between the men of the 1797 club, I was waiting for it and enjoyed also because Diane is also a very nice character and I appreciate being both "out of the ton" so to say. The dialogue were well done and there were some steamy scenes. As usual Jess Michaels remains one of my favorite regency author.

Jess Michaels has a way of snaring the readers attention from the first and not letting go until the end. The wounded hero trope is my very favorite because I love to see them healed and happy in the end. This story had it in spades. Lucas Vincent, the Duke of Willowby at a very young age, has done everything he can to avoid the Dukedom and has worked as a spy for the War Department. Terribly unhappy in his life he fights like he doesn't care if he gets killed and maybe he doesn't. Unfortunately ...more

Another winner in this series. I should mention, you could read this without reading the others in the series, but the friendship of this group of men is a wonderful thread through all the books. (so read them all if you can, you won't be sorry) Lucas is a wounded man, both inside and out, and has distanced himself from his friends. Diana also has her wounds, but together, and with the help of his friends, they will find healing and love. A wonderful story with a cast of wonderful people. Highly ...more
