Come on kids: Grab a hammer, step up to the workbench, and get ready to measure, saw, drill, and make cool things! Wood Shop is an exciting introduction for today’s kids to an ages-old tradition: building with wood.
With step-by-step photographs and clear instructions, aspiring woodworkers learn essential skills such as how to drive a nail, use a power drill, “measure twice, cut once,” and saw correctly. Then the fun begins as they put these skills to work building 18 cool and creative projects to furnish the wood shop, decorate their bedrooms and homes, and create their own play equipment. Favorite projects include the Sky High Stilts, Suspended Shelves, an Easy-Up Tent, and a Mighty Message Board. Wood Shop is the perfect gift for tinkerers, young makers, fans of Lego toys, and want-to-be carpenters and engineers.
Great book for young/future builders. It started with the basic : tools, types of woods, techniques, ... and then it proposes some building project, steps by steps that kids could try by their own. Everything is well organized, perfectly explain and easy to go by. Perfect work for children who might want to start building stuff and using tools, but that doesn't know where to start and have not necessarily someone to teach them.
Got this as an ebook while looking for beginner woodworking projects for my 9 yo’s Scout den. Unlike some of the other website posts and books that have a different idea than mine of “easy” and “beginner,” this was actually a good beginner book for kids (and parents) with minimal building experience. The projects are well-defined, have many clear photos of the process, and use a reasonable amount of tools and supplies. Intro chapters on tools and safety were also well done. The ebook was a little off in formatting with some page breaks coming at awkward spots between photos and their related text, but it wasn’t a big deal.
This book is so well written and easy to follow. I can’t wait to get the kids started on the projects. I love how they add an element of being creative and going beyond the project.
A great book to create and to use as inspirations for handcraft activities for children from 8 to 12 years old. Very well explained the illustrated with step by step tutorials. My favorite one was the Twinkle Board. The activities are very well adapted for the children.
