I could think long and hard before coming up with a movie that I love more than The Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim Burton is and always will be one of my very favorite directors and Jack Pumpkin.. well, I just wish I was Sally!   So, when my Goodreads friend, RedemptionDenied, recommended this cookbook based on the movie, I literally begged to read and review it!

The Nightmare Before Dinner is a collection of over 60 (!) recipes that are featured at the Beetle House Restaurant in LA and NY. The

Such a fun cookbook written with so much imagination and thought inspired recipes just in time for Halloween. Anyone can write just a normal cookbook. This is awesome! I love it, the photos are mouth watering but I would have liked more through the book to be honest.
The recipies have brilliant names and are tasty.
The drink combinations are fabulous too.
I love the fact you have the option to change each recipie vegan.
The menu plans and table decoration are a wonderful addition to help you throw a quirky, unique and unforgettable dinner party.
This is a really original book and would make a great gift.

Beetlejuice!

I love that this book is a celebration of Halloween, horror culture and all things Burton-esque. The recipes are from Beetle House, a restaurant that’s now on my bucket list because I need to experience the atmosphere and food, but more importantly its owner wasn’t allowed to celebrate Halloween as a kid and has found a way to make it a daily occurrence. I celebrate people finding ways to triumph over any kind of repression, especially when they can turn it into creative expression,

Perfect for Halloween! The recipes are inspired by a Tim Burton and horror themed restaurant. The recipes all have cute names, such as Sweeney Sauce, Evil Dead Shrimp, and Silence of the Lamb Chops. The page borders are lovely, spooky, and make for an aesthetically pleasing design.

There were color photos of about every other recipe. I would have given this cookbook 5 stars had there been a good photo for every recipe. I mostly read cookbooks for the food porn, and google recipes when I’m actual

descriptionSo I'll admit, I have a thing for cookbooks that tie into movies, tv shows, and books. Needless to say, when I saw this one up on NetGalley I just knew that I had to make it mine. I am a HUGE fan of Tim Burton, and one of my favorite movies is THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Making this cookbook a match made in book reviewing heaven for me.

Beetle House is a bar and restaurant located in New York and Los Angeles. It "pays tribute to its many inspirations from the work of Tim Burton, horror culture, and all things dark and lovely", and The Nightmare Before Dinner is their official cookbook. There are 60+ recipes for gourmet dishes, decadent desserts, and creative alcoholic drinks, along with ideas for themed parties accompanied by menus. The photography is stunning and features familiar but doctored up recipes that happen to be pair ...more

I was so excited to see my local bookstore had this cookbook! I've been *dying* to go to Beetle House ever since I heard about the Tim Burton inspired restaurant. These recipes are great, like Love It pot pie (ha like Mrs Lovitt from Sweeney Todd!) Or The Nine, a "neon-green appletini on steroids".
This book even comes with a chapter on themed parties, like which recipes to use for the appetizers, main course, dessert and cocktails. All with a list of suggested props and accessories and pictures

After being raised in a religious family that didn't allow Halloween celebrations, Zach Neil grew up to love the holiday so much he wanted to celebrate it every day.  That dream became a reality when he opened Beetle House, a Tim Burton-inspired restaurant full of creative and hearty autumn comfort food.

This cookbook contains seven chapters with clever names, covering everything from sauces (Sauces & Dips for the Recently Deceased), appetizers (Nightmares Before Dinner), soups and salads (He

I won't summarize the resume of the book (just read it...) but this is a cookbook of a restaurant mostly inspired by Tim Burton movies and general work. The recipes look delicious and the illustrations showing them look good. But... the «horror» or their «inspiration» are mostly in the name of the recipes. Lots of them could be name anything else, more casual, and it would be the exact same dishes... so a bit of a marketing «thing/fraud» here. I will say it again though, the recipes still look g ...more

Am I allowed to say that this is a funny cookbook?

Inspired by Tim Burton's stories and the Beetle House restaurant, this book is perfect for the Halloween season.

The recipes have fun names, there are very interesting ingredients in the mix and there are a lot of substitute foods offered to make the recipes vegan if needed.

I knew nothing about Beetle House when I was invited to review The Nightmare Before Dinner; however, I did know Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetle…(just kidding 😉 ). And what more incentive does the paranormal- and Halloween-loving person need to review a book when it contains recipes like “Frog’s Breath & Nightshade Risotto” or “Bloodbath Cobbler?”

I was SO excited when my wish on NetGalley was granted to see this cookbook. I wish I could visit the restaurant, but until then, I have the cookbook!

What I did was test two recipes - Cheshire Cat Sauce and Edward Scissorhands Burgers.

I did have to make some changes due to item not available, and a budget. The Cheshire Cat Sauce was delicious! I've never made actual cheese sauce and I definitely didn't imagine putting mustard in it. I didn't put enough whipping cream in it, so the sauce was a l

Fun, quirky and intriguing sounding recipes with the emphasis on movies that have weird and perhaps death related topics this cookbook provides some insight into the restaurants in New York and Los Angeles that are named after the movie Beetle Juice. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I had no idea there was a horror/Tim Burton-themed restaurant (2 apparently - one in New York, one in L.A.). LOVE this idea! So naturally I was excited to check out The Beetle House's cookbook. While the recipe names, plating ideas (straight razors instead of steak knives!) and party theme suggestions were all really creative and funny, I wasn't into the actual recipes all that much. Granted, I'm a bit of a picky eater, but a lot of these dishes just seemed like TO ...more

Thank you Quarto for allowing me to review The Nightmare Before Dinner.
This cookbook is fantastic and the pictures are gorgeous. The recipes are all from their restaurant so they are quite elaborate and richer than I would normally make at home. I would say this one is a special occasion book. All of the recipes are themed and perfect for a Halloween party or for any fan of Nightmare Before Christmas or similar movies.

The Nightmare Before Dinner by Zach Neil is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early October.

These are punny/morbidly titled recipes developed by a small chain of restaurants called Beetle House for sauces, appetizers, veg, plated mains (usually a combined main dish, then starch and/or veg with many vegan options/alternatives), desserts, drinks, then themed party ideas around the forementioned recipes. The restaurant concept itself looks quite zany and bluelight creepy, while the finished-pro
