interesting photo-heavy documentation of a 1990 voyage in a replica of the Nina. the authors build a very convincing argument for the falsification of columbus's journals in order to keep his route to the indies a secret. they also pretty convincingly posit that columbus was following a map made by an earlier (likely deceased) survivor of a trans-atlantic voyage. i'd love to see other scholarship take this argument up (there may be, i'll need to poke around), it's interesting and worth investigation. it's certainly neat that someone got a mariner to comb over the evidence.
