People suck, at least according to reclusive inventor Max Madden—except for his friend and mentor, Anthony. But now Anthony is dead after uncovering evidence that an avaricious financier caused the current economic crisis and is out for world domination, a man Max knows has the money, resources, and charm to succeed—his own father. Now Max is out for vengeance and he doesn't need a distraction like Crystal Evans tagging along.

The provocative psychic may have soft lips, curves like a Ferrari, and a scent like vanilla sugar, but she also has a thirst for redemption that will never be quenched. Max can't help but admire her tenacity, and when she leads him to others who also have superhuman powers, he agrees to lead this team of crime-fighting supers if they all agree that he will be the one to take his father down.

But fate and circumstance has a way of bitch-slapping a man to awareness, and emotional hungers Max once detested have become what he now craves. When Crystal becomes the key to Madden Sr.'s downfall, Max must choose: Can he send the woman he's come to love on the mission, a mission during which she has seen her death in a vision, or have his revenge?

This was the first time in reading this author with the story pulling me in. The characters Max and Crystal will take you on quite the adventure in this one. Max is quite the character in himself who will pick your curiosity. He finds out soon enough though what we want and what we get are two different things it seems all the times especially where people are concerned. He will also have a very interesting partner Crystal, along with others that will aid in the adventure. They are unique in themselves which will keep you into this one from the start. Chemistry will also begin to boil in this with the conclusion being not what you expect.

This was a light, quick read with great spinoff/series potential. It's the origin story for a team of super heroes in the Pacific Northwest and has a good balance of romance & action. A little tropey at times, but if you appreciate it for what it is--a comic book brought to life--it's a lot of fun! Ms. Alexander's writing is quirky, fast-paced, and filled with humor. There's a flogger, a yoga ball, and a Pomeranian, and none of them are used the way you'd expect. :)

Looking forward to Ripley's book.

The beginning of this book is very slow. The leaps they make and abrupt personality changes can be confusing. The "team" dynamic is a joke and they're lucky they haven't died yet on one of their missions. The he-man crap is extremely annoying. Now that we got all that out of the way. I love that they bring small elements of (this book verse's) science to explain possibilities for their evolution. Not having a spandex costume was amusing given the snark. I did not expect the Second. I couldn't put the book down once I started. I was given a copy of this book at no charge.

Well, that was fun! This book’s cover drew me in, the description made me want to read it, and it was right up my alley. Full of fantasy and attraction and action. I love the premise of super powers. And the tension between Max and Crystal is through the roof. Was it plausible? Not always. But it was very entertaining and I loved Max learning there’s more to life than making his father pay. Just joined the author’s newsletter so I’ll know when the next story is out. I have to keep reading because I want Ripley’s story.

I really enjoyed reading Genesis. I liked Max and Crystal's story. I felt the story was unique. I was engaged from the first page until the last page. The plot moved along at a steady pace. I liked Max because he didn't decide to fit into his father's mold. He wasn't greedy and he wasn't a guy that had an agenda. I liked Crystal because she was strong and brought out the best in Max. She was not scared to do what she felt was right. I would recommend Genesis to others. I can't wait to read the next book.

This is an awesome story. Very intense with great characters who are the most compassionate group of "misfits" to the world they live in yet wholeheartedly determined to help & protect the world they live in. Seemed so realistic even with the supernatural aspects. Very well written, gripping, emotional and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from author.

Max Madden hates all people except his friend Anthony. Anthony discovered that Max’s father is responsible for the current economic crisis and ends up dead. Max is determined to avenge Anthony’s death. Crystal Evans is a psychic and is drawn to Max, even if he tries his best to stay away from her. She introduces him to a small group of people with superhuman powers that want to right the wrongs. Reluctantly Max agrees to lead the team mainly to stop his father.

Max is a hermit to the tenth degree and wants nothing to do with people, especially Crystal. I love their interactions and it is so clear that he is falling for her even though he tries his best not to. Crystal is such a strong person and a great character. Like Max I was entranced with her abilities.

This is a great start to a superhero series. I loved all the characters and their abilities and I think they are a great team, once they get a lot of organization. If you like a super hero romance, look no further, you need to get this book. I’m excited to see what happens in book 2 - Instinct.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
