Award-winning and best-selling Western author Scott Harris is a lifelong Western enthusiast who traces his love of Western fiction back to his childhood days of reading Louis L’Amour novels.
Harris has published ten novels in the past year, along with two collections of short stories and a variety of other fiction and nonfiction Westerns.
The Brock Clemons Western Series follows the tale of Brock Clemons and his journey into the West accompanied by his horse, “Horse,” and wolf, “Wolf.” The Brock Clemons story — especially when he is joined by his new wife, Sophie and his adopted son, Huck — is one of bravery, adventure and romance, transporting readers back to a time when chivalry, courage and gunfights ruled the day in the West.
Harris’ second series, Caz: Vigilante Hunter, is a different take on the Western genre. With gun in hand, Caz blasts his way through the bad guys to bring peace and justice to the Old West!
Caz is looking for two things: the perfect breakfast and men who think they’re above the law. He hasn’t yet found a breakfast to match what his mom used to make, but there’s a trail of dead men behind him that shows he’s having no trouble finding bad men.
Harris also authors the well regarded 52 Weeks Series, the Western Adventure Series and the 500 Word Micro Short Series. Additionally, he is about to release A Novel Journey, a non-fiction book about writing your own Western novel and recently released Six Gun Pardners, a book a he co-authored with his son, Justin. He is also soon releasing the first novel in his newest series, Stagecoach Willy.
Harris, who loves nothing more (except for his family!) than settling into his hammock with a glass of bourbon, a cigar and a great Western, has created a Western world filled with fascinating and exciting characters and he hopes you enjoy reading about them as much as he does writing about them.
This has been a really nice read. I love the way they took in the young boy to raise as their own. I look forward to reading other books by Scott Harris. Thank you for a great read.
A very solid and well written traditional western introducing Brock Clemons, a young man traveling the West by himself, in search of something that is explained much later in the book. Brock is not a typical gunslinger, more altruistic and sympathetic than violent. Supporting characters are well drawn, especially the love interest Sophie, the valiant boy Huck, and the main villain Kurt. A story told with enough tension to keep my interest, and a satisfying ending that neatly wrapped up the loose ends. My only qualm is that it runs a bit long after the climax and it can be a bit wordy at times.
Dry Springs a little town in southern Colorado. You know those little settlements that start out as a Trading Post and eventually grows with settlers deciding to stay and there it goes a town is born. A young man born in London, England sails to America searching for his American father and during his travels this young man meets many of the harsher situations that many settlers go through as he continues his travels. There's the mountain mustang Horse, and we have another cowboy where a wolf has adopted him and accompanies him on his travels through the west. Great plot lots of action both mental and physical. Comparing the actions of coyotes to a gang of robbers, who are trying to bully the town of Dry Springs and it's people to become their personal Fiefdom; this would have happened if Brock Clemons hadn't decided to stop for a drink(brandy or rye) and a cigar.....
I believe this is the first novel I have had the opportunity to read by the Author Mr. Scott Harris, but it certainly is an exceptionally great beginning of a new friendship. I was most definitely impressed with this story and immediately purchased the next book in the series.
Very worthy of the five stars I awarded the story, as the author appears to be very knowledgeable of his times, places and situations of the era.
I have no recollection of any previous stories that I have had the opportunity to read, but I certainly look forward to the follow up story. As stated previously, I have the second book purchased and will begin reading it immediately.
I have no problem recommending this story to anyone loving a true adventurous western romance episode of our true old west. To read it is to love it.
Brock Clemons is traveling into the west in search of the father who disappeared when he was very young. He arrived at Dry Springs riding Horse and accompanied by Wolf in search of a drink, a cigar and a temporary job. He is met by Huck, a teenage boy, and finds a town under the control of an outlaw gang led by Kurt. Brock mobilizes the town leaders and together they kill every member of the gang. Brock is hailed as a hero is falling in love with Sophie who is the only daughter of general store. There is danger, courage, valor, romance and a life change for Huck who is an orphan taken in by Sophie and her father. Scott Harris is created a story with believable characters that keep one interested and engaged from the first page. A very interesting book that I would recommend to many readers.
When I first began reading this book (to seeif I thought it would hold my husband's interest), I was preparednot to like it. The first few pages are written in first person present tense, which isn't always good for setting the theme and surroundings of a book. I was drawn into the storyline within 10 pages. It takes place in post Civil War American West. A small town is overrun by petty outlaws. Having no lawman in the settlement works fine most of tne time, but the citizens are overwhelmed by the band of thieves, and do not know how to stand up for themselves until a stranger comes to the town and offers guidance. This is the first in a series of books written about Brock Clemons by Scott Harris. I am looking forward to reading others by him. Thanks for a very goodread!
A fun ride back to the time of the old west. This author really makes you see things as if you were there, which makes for a great time. Plenty of action and you actually care about the outcome of the characters, which is rare. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
If you are a fan of Louis Lamour and western story telling, this book is for you. I couldn't put it down once I started reading. I'd never heard of Scott Harris until this book was recommended to me but I can assure you, I'll be reading the rest of the Brock Clemons series and the very near future.
I finished reading Coyote Courage tonight. It was a really good book and I have to say I got a little misty at the end. If you haven't read it and like a good western I would encourage you to give this one a try.
Loved this book. It started out with Brock running from Indians. Then he rides into a small town, meets Huck, a 14 years old running the livery for his dad.Looking forward to read his next book in this series.
This will make you identify with so many characters, but Brock's character will give you someone to embrace, someone to admire, someone to emulate, someone to be....what you'd like to be. Hope you read it. You deserve it.
How can a small town be a life altering event. So many lives are changed by Brock coming to town. Even his own life. But also what are people made of and will help someone down and out even while they are dealing with their own problems.
This is am old time western. The way they used to write them and still should. Action. adventure, gun play and yes, even romance. A memorable and enjoyable book.
I just don't get the reasoning behind the descriptions of what people do jumping from past to present tense. Annoying. Otherwise, a great story teller.
First read of this author ... found the story to be an attention grabber til the end. Well written and covering the many things that can and do in life.
