Champion bucking horses take up much of veterinarian Dalton Price’s time during rodeo season, and he travels the circuit from spring till fall, occasionally retreating to his own ranch. Staying in the closet keeps him safe from homophobic cowboys, but the road gets lonely with nothing but his rescue mutt for company. Nothing wrong with slipping out for a few beers at a local gay bar, right? He’s only passing through, will never be here again.
Wilder than any Texas twister, Cody Yates lives by his own rules, out and proud in his tiny hometown. He does what he wants, when he wants, and whomever he wants. Who needs monogamy with a whole world full of beautiful men? Love is for others—no one will ever look at Cody with anything more than lust in their eyes. Until he meets a Stetson-wearing stranger at his favorite bar.
Three tiny kittens bring the men together, but Dalton could easier rope the wind than convince Cody to settle down.
Devyn Morgan is a contemporary man with a love of contemporary romance! He grew up in several different states due to his parents' careers, which instilled in him a love of travel and seeing new places. After finishing college, he traveled around the globe for two years in search of romance, experiences, and adventures. In that time, he came up with more story ideas than he could ever use, so he started to write gay fiction.
He currently lives in the eastern US with his partner and a dog, but he still considers himself a free spirit.
I have mixed feelings on this book, in many ways it really worked for me but in other areas i hated it so much.
The mcs were both enjoyable on their own and i enjoyed their first few interactions, but i just didn't feel they were compatible at all despite their chemistry at the start. Cody got frustrating quickly and i started to get bored of him, if i were Dalton i would have gave up on him.
I feel Cody only looked to relationship due to pressure from the other couples in his life, constantly telling him how good monogamy is and that he should try it.
He seemed happy in his life and situation, literally every time he thought of relationship with Dalton he used the other relatiomshios as reasons for him to go for it but in the negative was that he wouldn't be himself/that Dalton would change him. Which just annoyed me constantly as he abandons and ignores Dalton so many times throughout, just hot and cold constantly messing with his head.
Dalton i adored from start to finish, he was too sweet and had put up with enough rubbish from cowboys/being a secret. He didn't want that anymore or flings, he was looking for more and was honest about from the start. I really enjoyed learning about him and the animals are adorable!
But yeah i don't think Cody deserved him after all the drama and light angst, i just didn't care for their romance by the end. Although will admit to enjoying the roping scene, roleplay and that first date for coffee which was so sweet. I just think long term they didn't fit.
Overall an easy, lighthearted and fun read with a happy ending. Somethings just didn't work for me. Xx
I was looking forward to reading Cody's story after meeting him in Family Man but he did not really win me over in this book. Dalton was a really nice guy, who seemed to be willing to jump through hoops to keep Cody's attention, but Cody just seemed like he enjoyed his party ways to much to completely give them up for Dalton in the long run. The role-playing was nice but it seems like Dalton will have to be constantly thinking up ways to keep Cody from getting bored and straying in the future. 3.5 stars
HFN that leaves you wondering...are they happy? Will this last?
It also leaves you feeling incomplete. You know all there is to know about Dalton. He’s a sweet, wonderful man who just needs to be loved instead of being someone’s dirty secret.
Cody is the opposite. Flighty, insecure and closed off. But you never learn why...he never shares his reasoning.
I love Devyn Morgan. Prescription For Love and Well Suited are among my favorite books. But, sadly, I can’t recommend this one.
This was sort of painful to read. Felt one-sided from beginning end. Maybe the prologue was a little breather on the love but felt nowhere near enough...
Cody is a bright star in the town where he lives, librarian by day and joyful, sweet, gay man who enjoys sex and not afraid to ask kind of guy by night. A wild reputation in town, he shrugs his shoulders and continues to make merry. Dalton is a veterinarian, a champion roper and quiet man who loves men and has occasional hookups in the small towns he passes through. Roper meets Wind and the two start a wild and angsty journey of discovery as they struggle to overcome their firm beliefs that cloud their reality. Dalton a wanderer and Cody firmly set in his town with his friends and family. How do they fix this and meet halfway to make a meaningful relationship with each other? An excellent story by this author and one I would gladly recommend as a good read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book
Dalton is a lonely vet who lives for his job. Cody, a librarian, who refuses to believe in romance. Taking a chance on a relationship will either confirm their fears or prove they've been wrong all along. Luckily rain, kittens and friends step in to convince them that love is worth Another try.
Another feel good ARC from Devyn that led to a purchase. This totally an honest review.
Love this story with all the romance and animals from horses, kitten to a much loved dog the love does not stop there. With patients of a saint Dylan wins over a skittish Cody and finds a happiness he has always wanted. Cody discovers what finding love is all about and how happiness can be found with one person.
