“Jasper the Business Pig makes the sale with silliness and charm.” —Kirkus
Jasper would rather draw graphs than play in the mud. Can this cutie pig find someone to adopt him who means business, too?
Right from the start, everyone at the barnyard could tell Jasper wasn’t like his siblings: “I believe what we have here is a gen-u-WINE Business Pig!” No wallowing in the mud or rooting for grubs for Jasper; he’d rather help with the bookkeeping or conduct a meeting. Though everyone at the animal sanctuary loves him, Jasper longs for a forever home. But no matter how many business cards he hands out, no one wants to adopt him. Can this above-average pig find his special person to cut deals with?
Starting laughing hysterically at the first 2-pg spread and didn't stop until the end, when I was also swooning. Adorable, creative, hilarious. Even the endpapers are cute. One of my new favorites for sure.

Hello, friends! Our book today is Business Pig by Andrea Zuill, an adorable story about being different.
When Jelly Bean the sow welcomes a litter of piglets to Sunshine Sanctuary for farm animals, it’s pretty clear from the start that one of them is different. Decked out in a suit and tie and standing on two legs, one of the caretakers proclaims the piglet to be a “gen-u-wine” business pig, and a young volunteer names him Jasper. Jasper has some trouble fitting in with his siblings; he’s not a fan of rooting for for food or wallowing in mud. So the volunteers and the rest of the farm animals do what they can to make him feel loved, setting up an office space for him to do the sanctuary’s bookkeeping and watching his meeting presentations with gusto. Still, Jasper wishes he could find a position with someone who can share his love of corporate life… and maybe a loving home too.
Absolutely delightful. The story and art display such a wonderful balance of humor and heart, wrapped around a wholly original story with a timeless lesson: there’s someone for all of us. Jasper is unbelievably cute in his black suit with coffee cup in hand, and Zuill expertly uses scale and expression to make him instantly lovable. The text is dry and heartfelt in turns, and exactly when it needs to be. The length was great, and JJ adored the little pig. This was a simply charming read, and we loved it. Baby Bookworm approved!
(Note: A copy of this book was provided to The Baby Bookworm by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.)
Jasper is not like most pigs. He was born with a suite and business sense. He did not like rolling around in the mud. While the other animals did not exactly understand him, they tried to make him comfortable. The real troubles came when no one wanted to adopt him.
What we really liked about the book was not only was the story fun, but it was thought-provoking. As we read the book, there were tons of great conversations that helped the children with critical thinking skills.
This was both a fun and educational book.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were in no way influenced by outside sources. I am a professional blogger at Little Lady Plays
Oh my gosh, this book is wonderful! I love books where the words seem to narrate one story and then the illustrations really make the book just explode with all kinds of different and added meaning. The facial expressions here, especially the business pig's, are priceless. (For example, how he smiles at the girl as she looks at him while reading his resume.) I love the mood on this farm, the Sunshine Sanctuary, how everyone just supports Jasper and lets him be himself without reproof. Just a heartwarming, hilarious book. One thing bothers me though, and that's a secret that's alluded to in the author's dedication: "For Amy. Because she and she alone knows the reason I created this book." Spill, Amy! I'm curious!
Because small beings in business attire are hilarious, but also, I am all in favor of adoptable farm life and the volunteers who rescue, rehabilitate, and when appropriate, adopt out.
I came across this book at Half Price Books while browsing the children's section one day. I was immediately drawn to its quirky title and cover illustrations. The storyline is very unique and engaging. The drawings are very cartoonish, bright, and expressive. The story begins with the business pig, Jasper, being born. He is different from his piglet siblings, doing lots of business-y things. While his siblings are getting adopted, Jasper does not and feels out of place. He devises a plan to advertise himself as a very good pet. A little girl, just as unique and business-y as Jasper comes by, and he is finally adopted. The illustrations are vital to the story, providing funny details that the text does not explain. This book is great for a read aloud because it is fun, engaging, and relatable. You find yourself greatly empathetic towards Jasper. I would recommend this book for students grades K-3, however, the humor in it could be appreciated by older 4th and 5th graders. This book would be great on its own as a read aloud, but it could also be used in lessons about differences, kindness, and even creating a resume. I will continue reading this to students again and again and highly recommend it for other classroom libraries.
BUSINESS PIG Written and illustrated by Andrea Zuill How does a pig know that he is born for the world of business? By his attire, of course. Jasper, the pig, is born dressed for success. His unusual, yet useful, behaviors solidify this fact. His problem? Finding the right associate to adopt him for who he is. Jasper posts resumes and charts and exchanges business cards. Being true to yourself takes time, effort and courage. Challenging? Yes. Worth the endeavor? Absolutely. Jasper makes a plan and sticks with it. When Jasper finds the place where he belongs, the reader finishes with a big sigh of content (and a smile).
Jasper isn’t an average pig. In fact, Jasper is very different from his brothers and sisters, who love doing what piggies do; things like eating grubs and playing in the mud. No, Jasper would rather hold meetings, work on his resume, and do the bookkeeping on the farm. Although the other animals are sympathetic, they really don’t understand business. And no one seemed to understand Jasper… until one day when Jasper meets someone who is not an average person. And what Jasper discovers is that even a Business Pig can fit in. Great fun!
At first I thought this was a book about President Trump, but luckily I was wrong. it is instead an adorable tale of a piglet unlike any other who finds his forever home. 5/5, would recommend above yet another White House tell-all.
I want to give this picture book to all children with parents in the business world, to students pursuing business degrees and really anyone who loves a charming story about a little pig who is looking for the right fit in an adoptive family. We all belong somewhere!
An adorable story about a business pig who is not your average swine. Business Pig has high aspirations and is fiscally responsible but is having a hard time getting adopted by a family. See how Business Pig campaigns to find the perfect adoptive home. Sweet story about embracing your uniqueness.
That was the cutest dang thing. A little entrepreneurial pig wants to get adopted. And he finally does by a little entrepreneurial girl. Adorable. I love when she looks at his resume and consults "higher management" (her mom, haha)
From the first page to the last this book is hilarious and full of heart with illustrations that amuse and pull on your heartstrings as well. This is a pretty perfect book and Business Pig is Some Pig!
Not all pigs are created equal, so when Jasper is born it is quickly realized that Jasper is not your ordinary run of the mill pig. And things are no better at the "Sunshine Sanctuary for Farm Animals" for Jasper.... Will he ever become a "Forever adopted Farm Animal"?
This book made me smile and I couldn't stop. This is an absolutely charming book. It would be a great story time edition or a rainy Sunday afternoon reader.
One of the new piglets is unlike his siblings in more ways than his business suit. With the support of friends he is able to showcase his talents effectively as he seeks a post as the perfect pet.
This book had no business cracking me up (get it? BUSINESS?!?), but it did!! You've got to read it to understand what's happening here, otherwise it really makes no sense.
The illustrations hook you and the story makes you stay to the end. A unique story about a different kind of pet adoption. And, I can't say enough about how cute the illustrations are!
This cute picture book tells the story of an adorable little pig who is different from the rest of his litter because he wears a suit and tie, helps with the barnyard accounting, and has an impeccable resume. But sometimes being different is a bit for discouraging for this little pig. Despite all of his efforts, he can't get anyone to adopt him. This would be fun to share with young readers as a way of starting a discussion about accepting our friends' differences and liking people for who they are.
