Hello, friends! Our book today is Fire Truck Dreams, written by Sharon Chriscoe and illustrated by Dave Mottram, third in Chriscoe’s series of big-machine bedtime stories.
Following the same beats as the previous installments – Race Car Dreams and Bulldozer Dreams, – a fire truck finishes his busy day of rescuing kittens and putting out fires, heading home and keeping a proud, watchful eye over his neighborhood. After a refreshing wash and a story from the Rescue Readers Library, he nestles into his parking bay with his trusty Dalmatian and settles into sleep. When he dreams, it’s of saving the day at a bonfire and treated to a parade in his honor, appreciated for all the good that he does.
Very sweet. Once again, Chriscoe uses fluid, cheerful yet subdued rhymes to show how a sentient big vehicle ends its day just the same way the reader does, a treat for any young lover of big machines. The colorful art uses twilight color and lighting to set a peaceful tone that makes for a good bedtime read, adorable and visually interesting but not overly stimulating. There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking in the way the story is presented, especially considering how much it shares with the preceding books in the series, but there’s something quite soothing in its simplicity – this is just the type of book that a little fire truck enthusiast would adore reading to wind down their day. The length is good, and JJ enjoyed it, so we can definitely say that this one is Baby Bookworm approved!

Fire Truck has had a big day and he is ready to tuck in the for the night. After putting out fires and even rescuing a kitten, he is ready to go back to the station, have a bath, some refreshment, and a good old bedtime story. When our kids were little, I loved reading “bedtime stories” to our kids before bed. I liked stories that talked about getting ready for bed and those have become our lasting favorites as a family. Many of them we know by heart. FIRE TRUCK DREAMS could that kind of book for your family.
Fire Truck shares about an important day of work and helping others. Then the nightly routine of bathtime, supper, and a good book helps kids realize their own routines are just as important. Even in his dreams, Fire Truck is still putting out fires.
The illustrations are adorable and Fire Truck has the cutest Dalmatian puppy that goes along on all his jobs. Kids will enjoy finding the dog on every page. Toddlers through Kindergarten will love ending their day with Fire Truck and his faithful puppy. Add this book to your bedtime reading pile!

A fun read for fire truck fans. Fire truck is one busy guy fighting fires and rescuing kittens in trees. Now home for a wash in the local Bubbles and Suds, then a refill at the gas pump and finally a book from the local library. He is so tired, but sirens blare and he is off to quench an out of control campfire. Finally, off to bed. The illustrations and text are very soothing - a great bedtime story.
A cosy bedtime book for the vehicle lover (my kids would have enjoyed it). The fire truck spends most of its time preparing for bed, with warm pictures and nice details on the big page spread and rather forceful rhymes. And then there is finally an action shot, but that's in the dreams.
I'm not sure why we couldn't have the action shot outside sleep, but it gives a nice ending with imaginary smores to drift into your own pleasant dreams with.
Fire Truck Dreams is a fun rhyming story. Beautiful pictures have the appearance of a lot of soft textures on each page. This is such a cute series; Fire Truck Dreams being a follow-up to Race Car Dreams and Bulldozer Dreams. And the busy little fire engine even stops at a Rescue Readers Library on his way back to the station!
This book is perfect for me: fire trucks, car washes, gas stations, fire fighting, etc. My only complaint is that the book hardly talks about the DREAMS. It's mostly a get ready for bed book, and everyone knows bedtime is lame.
A sweet, bedtime story of a fire truck who's work is done for the day. He makes one last round the neighborhood, stops by the library to choose a bedtime story and heads back to the station.
Had this book ended when he pulled himself into the bay to sleep I would have given it more stars. I love the rhyming text and the illustrations. Sometimes, less is more.
