Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate her relationship with Aric, nor do I hate Aric as a character. But at this point I don't think it should be who she ends up with. Jack's character growth with her is phenomenal. He grew and changed and seeing him with Evie now versus back in Poison Princess makes my heart melt. He made mistakes, but he actively worked on himself and became a better person for her, when she wasn't even with him! Now, I don't fault Aric for his actions in Endless Knight. After everything he went though in past games it's understandable that he'd treat Evie the way he did, to self protect. The only are that makes me uncomfortable is how Stockholm syndrome-y her feelings came across to me as (and I don't EVER use that lightly) She was literally put into a situation where her only way to survive (if he had chosen to kill her as he kept telling her he would) was to try to seduce him, therefore creating an emotional connection with him. She literally called being with him at the end of Endless Knight penance. All she's ever made to feel is guilt over the past, something SHE never did, and should not have any bearing on her now. She isn't married to Death in this life. Like dude how would you feel if someone kidnapped you, threatened to kill you, then admitted you did all this horrible stuff to him in the past but you're really his wife and he wants you to accept him in that way now? Even if you have access to the memories, it wouldn't have been YOU. In any case, his character development with regards to how he treats her is so much more spotty for me. When she was mourning Jack, he was such an asshole to her. I understand him trying to protect his heart and keep himself safe from hoping for her, but relationships are give and take. He was just so selfish, all he cared about were his feelings. She shouldn't have had to feel the need to put her mental state on the back burner just to keep him. Jack fought for her, did everything he could to put her in the best situation he could. He would have raised the child as his own if push came to shove without a second thought. Aric may love Evie, but he has a hard time actually expressing it in a way that's fully believable. (less)

Let's face it, no matter who Evie ends up with (Jack probably) it won't be fair on the other guy she's strung along. She's a selfish biatch and the only possible acceptable pairing left is Jack x Aric. See how she likes being third wheel and left out for once.

Hail Tar Ro, baby!

The end is nigh!

And so, a bedtime tale…

Once upon a time, there was a handsome, sexy, sweet, brilliant, fierce, self-sacrificing man (with slightly killer tendencies) named Aric:

Unfortunately, this perfect man fell madly in love with an annoying, fickle girl named Evie:

Evie sometimes treated Aric like garbage, but, alas, he still adored her.

“A touch and a soft look. I am felled.”

“Sievā, I am a planet off its axis.”

Okay remember the end of DoW, when Aric says to Evie, "You'll win this game, wife, I'll make sure of it. Then you will wait an eternity for me to return." Yeah? B/c that needs to happen.

Our little Empress needs to S U F F E R for all the shit she's put Aric through. Again, and again, and again. She loves me, she loves me not... Just cut the goddamn ties already okay? We all know how this will end (aka with Jack), even though Aric is the one, her "soul mate", as she's said to herself multiple tim

8.10.20: lmao. Guess this book is coming out when rona ends. Which is seemingly never. I was so invested too, but can barely recall any names now. Hopefully Cole figures out an actual release date so I can reread the prequels in time.

Hm. Final book, and how do I feel?

Like fucking shit, okay. Because I am pretty sure that Kresley Cole is gonna make it so that Jack and Evie happen, and I am soooooooo not here for that. But my inner dog nose has been sniffing since the ending of The Dark Calling, a

I hated the last book-SO MUCH, but at this point- I feel so invested in this story and the characters- I did really love all the other books prior to #5.

I will hang around with every one else and see what happens- But Aric better have a happy ending, SERIOUSLY or I'm going to run screaming down the street!

We're all in this together- You hold my hand and I'll hold yours (probably squeezing it way too tight).

Team Jack all the way! As he says "it'll always be Evie and Jack". Now I'm not saying I don't like Aric, I do! I wish I didn't, it'd make these books a lot easier and lot less emotional! But Evie chose Jack, he's her one true love, if it wasn't for her thinking he'd died and then getting pregnant she would always pick Jack and he would always pick her. They're meant to be. Please bring them back together KC. TEAM JACK! ...more

Please please please let this one be better. The Dark Calling was just:

I really want Aric to have a happy ending; he’s my favorite character. And I really hope nobody else I like dies. So please Kresley Cole!

Edit: One other thing I'd really like to happen in the last book is Aric's Arcana Call. He's the only one we haven't heard.

Okay, the way things are going, I think it's pretty clear Evie will end up with Jack (sigh). So I hope she wins the game, and the epilogue is in 1,000 years, and after Jack died of old age, she spent the entire time studying magic so that she can stop the game from occurring again while give all the reincarnations of the other cards all the memories of their previous lives (the most recent one at least) and Evie will see Aric and be like "This time, I was the one who waited for YOU." ...more

TEAM JACK!!! I think from the last book we can all surmise that Evie will choose Jack, always. I mean Jack had to convince Evie not to go with him and fix her relationship with Aric.

It'll always be Jack and Evie.

I am not happy with how this series is progressing, but I have no choice but to be dragged along, mainly for Aric's sake, and I have a feeling this next one's going to be torture...
You already know one of these boys has gotta die and it's going to be Aric. He's going to die -epic and heroically as always -and Jack is going to help raise his son, as he already said he would do if it came to it. I think that's the only way to wrap it up, with Jack and Evie and Aric's son.

I feel like the answer to the Jack or Aric question should be obvious to Evie by now. Seriously, girl needs to take a second listen to Sol's story and realize it's remarkably similar to what she's going through with her loves. AND he provided the solution of her dilemma in it.
Aric and Jack already like each other, and they both love her. Give them enough time, remove the thought from each of their heads that the other is a rival, and boom! Happy poly relationship. Ok, so maybe Jack and Aric can'

An August 2019 release date, huh? We're almost halfway through August already and this book isn't even available for preorder and there's still no exact date for release. Not to mention that it was originally supposed to be released months ago.

I don't even know what to call Kresley. I've never seen a published author do something like this before, and especially not twice in a row. When The Dark Calling got pushed back twice 2 years ago, she blamed a broken leg and the hurricanes in Florida, ev

I think we all know how this will end, sadly evie will be crying and holding death in her hands as he slowly slips away and the game is won by her. Her and Jack will name the baby after aric and they'll ride off in the sunset blah blah blah :( my heart is already breaking for this book and it's the finale so you know it's going to be long and heartbreaking and all us aric fans are going to be ruined I tells ya just ruuuuuined! ...more

Well, well, well guess whose doing JUST FINE!!!

From the Grave - now will be released FALL of 2020!!!!

I think I’m going to write the ending myself on watt pad. It’s gotta be better than this.

It’s not coming out guys... this August publication date is a lie. You can’t preorder the book anywhere so it’ll just pass us by like her earlier suspense she missed. Truly sucks that she treats her readers like crap.

I guess she couldn’t decide between team aric or jack.

From The Grave…
It doesn’t sound like the title of a book to me.
Could it be an arcana call? Maybe Aric’s call?
I don’t know. Since I started this series I am in conflict. I love the story but I don’t like the main character. During the entire reading, Evie seemed like a woman unable to outdo herself.
Inmature. Selfish. Capricious. Evil. And I could continue all day…
It’s pity. It’s pity because these are a very good books with a very good plot.
But she is a bad example.

I'm starting to think that the reason this book's release date keeps getting pushed and pushed is because Cole is seeing just how much people are hating the main character and how most fans want Aric to be chosen. Maybe since she likely wrote the original ending with Evie and Jack, she's re-writing the story for Evie to choose Aric instead. One can hope there's a legitimate reason for this ridiculous delay. ...more
It's the final book how to feel about it...I know for sure Evie will end up with Jack (not that I don't like him) but it's okay man, I'm sure Aric will...just rot in a corner??? TTTTTTTT
actually you know what the best thing to do might be for Aric to just abandon Evie, and run away with Jack xD

I just want aric!!!! Pls:'( I feel like Keresley is gonna choose jack tho like most of today's popular young adult authors would... That's why I adore Sarah j. Maas! I adore kresley's writing style but if the protagonist ends up choosing the 'obvious' guy it always ruins the whole series for me :/ let's hope for the death ...more

So here we are, two years past the "release date" and still no book. I'm not too proud to admit that I'm an adult and this is still one of my very favorite series. I've read through it twice, not to mention casually scanning them here and there when I want to get another sweet, sweet hit of Arcana to get me through this release drought.
