Every day, another Millennial becomes an adult. For many young people, the transition is a bumpy one, fraught with opportunities to make mistakes and bad choices. The clear expectations they had at home or in school are gone, and they may feel unprepared to face what comes next.

But sometimes we make it harder than it has to be. Combining entertaining stories from his own e

If I'm just being honest I really struggled reading through this one. I am aware that I am different than many in my generation, and I didn't really get anything out of it for myself. When I picked up this book I thought it was going to be about "responsible" adults needing to make tough decisions in life and learning how to balance it all. Instead it was more about the "irresponsible" people who really need to suck it up and grow up on multiple levels. Unfortunately the audience that really nee ...more

I skimmed this this book at the request of a friend. This looks like a helpful book for young men. It is personably written and offers sound advice on authority, work, money, community, conflict, dating, and worry. The biggest challenge will be getting those who need to read this book to read it. I fear that the chapter on authority will cause many to set the book aside. In the introduction, the author writes, "I hope you don't read this book alone." I think that is sound advice. I believe this ...more

If you are entering adulthood, you need to read this book!

Jonathan “JP” Podluka has written a great guide on what it means to be an adult in the 21st century. Adulting is full of exciting things like responsibilities and mortgage payments, but JP reminds readers that there is more to life than simply getting married and finding a good job. Your purpose defines how you live your life, and for the Christian, your purpose is defined by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

This book is divided

I have had the privilege of getting to listen to JP preach on Tuesdays and Sundays for a year and a half now, and this book has been a culmination of all of what God has used him for during that time. I share a lot of JP's similar past, so to get to read things from his point of view paired and backed through the worldview of Biblical Truth was extremely encouraging and transformational for me. What JP is sharing with us here isn't rocket science, it's something way more complex, yet so simple. ...more

Easily one of the best books for young adults I have read. I have been listening to messages from JP and going to The Porch, a young adults ministry out of Watermark Community Church in Dallas, Texas, for the past couple years. When I heard JP was writing a book, I could not have been more excited about how much of a positive impact it would have, as the words and messages God has blessed him with have genuinely impacted my own life in such an enormous and positive way as well and pointed me bac ...more

Probably there are some people who know what they want to do when they grow up, know what they want to be when they grow up, but I’m not one of them. Funny thing though, I’ve never heard anybody say that they want to grow up to be an adult. People want to be a fireman, a millionaire, an actor, a pharmacist, or married with kids. But no one wants to get old, (other than be old enough to do (or buy) any number of things that do require you be of a certain age).
But who wants to be an adult, with a

This book should be read by every young adult at the age of 17 and then at 21! It has so very many important truths that it is a treasure chest needing to be unpacked.

The author acknowledges upfront that he made a plethora of mistakes as a young man and he wants to use his knowledge gained the hard way to help others not make the same mistakes. He has broken the short, easy-to-digest book into eleven chapters. Life and Purpose are the first two, followed by Authority, Work, Money, Community, Con

This book is a compelling read for anyone who is searching for how to honor God through the stage of adulting. There are so many cultural expectations or pressures thrown at young adults, that sometimes we get caught up in searching for identity in money, a job, or a desired future. JP explains how God desires for us to live a life that is full of purpose and fulfillment through seeking to honor Him. Some of my favorite topics included in the book are the importance of trusting that God's in con ...more

Review:
Jonathan Pokluda has written his book, Welcome to Adulting, based on his own experiences and those of thousands of other young adults. He has worked with and counseled young adults for the last two decades. So the book is not theoretical. It is solidly based on the thinking and choices young adults in the 20s and 30s are consistently making. My other job, besides being a book reviewer, is being a pastor, and our congregation is almost all young adults. His insights can be validated by al

When we are young we continuously dream about the day we become adults. It is not until we reach that stage that we understand the true difficulties that lie ahead. The road to Adulting is a hard one. One that you can never truly prepare for. Learning from those who have steered the bumpy & narrow path before could save us a great deal of pain & difficulty. This is what Jonathan Pokluda has done for the readers of his new book "Welcome to Adulting." It is an ideal read for those entering ...more

After spending 8 years volunteering in high school and college ministries, I’ve seen where young adults are in need of growth, and this book addresses the needs well. It is written to young adults, but I would recommend it to high school students, ESPECIALLY those who are lacking wise adults or mentors in their lives.
The book has a firm biblical foundation, but the optimism still sometimes comes off as naïveté. It meets its mark as a primer, so if you’re looking for philosophy and theology on t

Solid overview for friends nearing the end of college or starting out after graduation. Covers a variety of crucial areas for young adults like finances, work, handling conflict, dating, etc.....and gives some wisdom to Millennials (and maybe Gen Z) about navigating the transition to adulthood. Doesn't go into great depth in any one of these areas, but then, I didn't really expect it to when covering such a broad range of topics. I'd hand this to one of my kids or college ministry grads without ...more

This book is amazing! I have had the opportunity to listen to JP through The Porch and at Watermark for 3 years and he never fails to speak biblical truth and in his new book he continues to blow us all away with God’s word. His writing is honest and real and is relatable to all young adults who are struggling and thriving in the “adulting” phase of life. You do not want to miss this incredible resource!

I'm the person that HATES to read, in school spark notes was my best friend. This book though is one of the only books I've truly read all the way through and I already want JP to write another one. This guides you and shows you how to "adult" according to the bible. JP has many experiences that most adults have and he uses those to his advantage and shows us how to adult without making those same mistakes. This is a must read for any adult, you won't regret reading it at all.

Must read for anyone wondering how to “adult”!! Topics covered include: finding your purpose, work, money, dating, conflict, community, worry, authority, recovering from our past, & dealing with the question of eternity. I devoured this book in a few days! Cannot recommend it enough!

This book is a good resource for guys in their 20's. There were moments when I felt it was written more towards guys rather than girls particularly the section on dating and relationships. Overall this book is a great read for someone starting out their first career. I enjoyed JP's writing style, probably because it was like listening to him speak at the Porch.

This book is a great reminder of the important things in life and has allowed me to focus on what truly matters. This book is a great read for recent high school graduates, college students, as well as young adults.

JP is one of the best speakers that I have ever heard. I was so excited to read Welcome to Adulting, and he totally came through. His honesty and truth from the Bible are so encouraging and helpful for navigating life after college. Welcome to Adulting touches on purpose, work, community, dating, anxiety, and more. I highly recommend it for anyone in their 20’s or 30’s pursuing the Lord, and it is an incredible resource for small groups to study and discuss together.

Incredible book. JP lays out important concepts that my generation needs to know in order to be a responsible, God-honoring adult.
He sprinkles the book with the Gospel and ends it with an in-depth explanation of what it is. He reflects on what eternity will be like, what our identity in Christ is, and an admonishment to not wait to share the Gospel because that's what matters in eternity.
