I loved this book so much. I haven’t read many historical books in first person, but this one fit it perfectly.

The book shares the stories of two characters : Anna and her grandma, Geesje. So much happened for both of them, and I loved seeing how it all fell into place. Anna’s story was probably my favorite, though I also really enjoyed Geesje’s. Cornelia was such a sweet and gentle character, and I loved hearing about her story as well. You can’t help but just love these characters.

This is the first Lynn Austin novel I have read, and I have to say, I was greatly impressed!

Despite this being book two in a series, I was able to jump right into the story without any confusion and still be just as attached to the characters, despite not knowing their complete story. I quickly fell in love with the beautiful and realistic characters in this story. While I loved Anna, I had a hard time relating to her based on the decisions she made, so I have to say I loved Geesje's storyline

Somehow I missed the fact that Legacy of Mercy was the sequel to Waves of Mercy, so I got to discover the connection as I began reading. Imagine my delight to be reunited with Anneke, Derk, and Geesje! I have always wished for more to this story, and now I was given a conclusion that made my heart happy. However, if you haven’t yet read Waves of Mercy, the author does a nice job of summing it up in the first few pages of this next book.

Legacy of Mercy is the second and final book in the Waves of Mercy series. While I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first novel, Waves of Mercy, it was well done and I loved the characters.

The mystery about Anna's birth parents was fun to unravel. There was one spoiler line about the birth father, but not a huge impact because it was pretty clear who it would be at that point.

I so loved Oma, Anna's birth grandmother. New to Legacy of Mercy was Cornelia and her grandfather. They just arrived

The Refiner's Fire Series by Lynn Austin was the best book series I've ever read. I read the books in the series as soon as they released and the stories have stayed with me. I remember how impressed with the books in the series I was and still am. This series just may top it! Some author's change their writing style with the more books they release, not so with this author. If anything her writing style just continues to improve. She gives us a glimpse into the life of Anna Nicholson, a young s ...more

I can’t remember the last time I wanted a sequel more, than after reading Lynn Austin’s Waves of Mercy. I’m so glad so many people requested more to Anna’s story and even more so that Lynn wrote one!

I thought the sequel went along well with the original story line and characters’ personalities and actions. I enjoyed what Lynn did with the story and the historical lane she took readers through. I loved getting to connect again with Geesje and Holland, Michigan. Austin also touches on different th

As I was reading this I realized that this was the second book in this series and I had not read the first one, that being said, I was not lost, enough information was given that I was able to enjoy this read.
Through the author’s pen we are given an insight into the Word of God and how it applies to everyday life, and we soon see how hard it is for the rich to give up and follow.
Yes, this is a different time, but it could apply to today, and as I was reading this story we put faces on those with

Lynn Austin is one of my favorite authors and while Legacy of Mercy wasn't my favorite of her books, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

-Anna/Anneke was a wonderful main character. I loved her gentle, caring spirit and her determination to discover the truth about her past. Geesje (how do you pronounce her name?) was also a great character, though I preferred the chapters from Anna's point of view.
-Can I just marry Derk? Love, love, love him. I kept imagining him as Michael Huisman (as he

I couldn't put this book down! A wonderful sequel to waves of Mercy! I especially love how the author uses scenarios that are familiar for any human, using stories of broken hearts, unforgiveness, bitterness, gossip, and so many others to teach and remind me of what the Bible teaches. I am from the town where part of the book takes place, and I love the descriptions of how the town was over 100 years ago.
Another great book that I will read and reread from Lynn Austin!

Although I love to read, I don't believe I've ever read a novel in two days. But despite my crazy schedule and the fact that doing so meant I had to stay up WAY too late, I read "Legacy of Mercy" in just two sittings. I felt compelled to keep reading because it's just THAT GOOD. This novel moved me repeatedly and is a great reminder of the importance of mercy in our lives. Highly recommended.

Legacy of Mercy is the sequel to the book Waves of Mercy, which came out about 2 years before this one. If you haven't read the first one, you could still enjoy this one, but you will understand more if you read Waves of Mercy first. I was grateful that the author chose to begin the book with letters between Anna and Geesje (the 2 main characters from Waves of Mercy) as it brought some remembrance to what happened in the first book (and can set the stage for anyone who hadn't read the first book ...more

I'm not that familiar with Lynn Austin's writing, but I know a couple of writer friends who believe Austin is the greatest writer out there. The synopsis and the cover for Legacy of Mercy grabbed my attention, and I decided to give her a try. Being a historical romance, I had a pretty good idea what I was in for. A story set in the past filled with characters who tried to solve a conflict and learn to fall in love with a member of the opposite sex. The story kept my attention.

Lynn Austin creates characters you'll fall in love with, and Anna from Waves of Mercy is no exception. In fact, that's how this sequel, Legacy of Mercy, came about - so many readers loved it and begged Austin directly for another book that she created this one! I love that!

Anna really is a wonderful character. She's a product of her home and her time, but there's a niggling in her spirit that there's more, and she's just brave enough to investigate that. She's curious and interested in the past,

Reading a Lynn Austin book is always a treat. In Legacy of Mercy Austin seamlessly stitches together two strong story lines, honoring each without detracting from the other. In the late 1800s women of society were not expected to marry for love, but for joining families to the mutual benefit of both. So, Anneke (Anna) Nicholson had resigned herself to the necessity of her marriage to William Wilkinson. The marriage would help her adopted parents both financially and socially. Still her mind, an ...more

You never know if a sequel will be as captivating as the first book in a series. Frankly, I couldn't imagine Lynn Austin topping the story she had spun in Waves of Mercy. But she did! Legacy of Mercy continues the story of Geesje and Anna in turn-of-the-century (19th to 20th) Michigan. I so appreciated being part of their continuing journey as both women navigate heartbreak, love, and loss. The secondary cast of characters was equally compelling, and the plot twists not easily expected (and I li ...more

What a great story. This story had a small group of characters really but they all connected to make such a great tale. The main characters are Geesje and Anna. Geesje lives in Holland MI. Anna is her Granddaughter who lives with her adopted parents in Chicago IL. Anna is trying to find out more about her parents with her wedding getting close. After gossip starts about her background, she is more interested to finding the truth. With the help of her good friend Derk, from Holland, MI, they are ...more

After reading Waves of Mercy, I was so hopeful that the story would continue! I was delighted to learn that the very talented Lynn Austin was indeed going continue the story of Anna and her grandma, Geesje, Derk and William. When I received this book from Bethany House for review, I hadn't connected the fact that this was a second in a series. However, I quickly realized the characters were familiar, like close friends, and there were new characters I had yet to get to know. This installment picked up where "Waves of Mercy" left off, and carried me back into the late 19th century life of high society life. Lynn Austin showcases the differences in the way class systems lived--and still do, she also shares how differe ...more

LEGACY OF MERCY is a story that embodies its title. It's overall, a story of Anna and past generations who made mistakes, loved, lost, and found mercy and forgiveness. Those who read the first book in this series will love finding out what Anna's future holds and those who have not, will fall in love with her and the other characters in this story for the first time. It's an inspiring story of family, life choices, and trusting in God and love.

I loved this continuation of Geesje and Anna's story. With some answers for her past, Anna returns to the luncheons, teas, literary groups and formal dinners that comprise her life in Chicago. As her faith grows, she begins to realize the shallowness of such a life. There are also many more details about her past that she would like to discover. Life has changed in Holland, Michigan as well. New arrivals from the old country bring new challenges to love people where they are, with Geesje praying ...more

Lynn Austin is my favorite author, and she did not disappoint with this sequel to her book Waves of Mercy, which was about the early Dutch settlers, who settled Holland, Michigan and their trials and triumphs. Anna’s search to find information about her birth mother and who her biological father was led to scandals in her social circle. Meanwhile in Hol ...more

What I Loved: If you’ve read Waves of Mercy, you might have felt like there was more to the story. I’ll be honest with you, I was one of those rare human beings that was actually completely satisfied with the ending as it was. But that doesn’t mean, I wasn’t thrilled to get my hands on the “new ending!” And, boy, was it worth it! This was even better than the first one!

Legacy of Mercy is the sequel to Waves of Mercy, by eight-time Christy Award winner, Lynn Austin. I think the cover is stunning and would have caught my eye, even if I hadn't already read many of Lynn Austin's novels. Legacy of Mercy is written in the first person from the perspective of many of the novel's characters. I feel like first person is the most difficult point of view to write in and must be expertly crafted in order for the story to pop off the pages. Legacy of Mercy was missing the ...more

“Legacy of Mercy” is a satisfying sequel to “ Waves of Mercy” by Lynn Austin. I always enjoy this author’s talent to introduce me to a historical setting and people I am unfamiliar with. This book reveals what it might have been like for Dutch immigrants that came to Holland, Michigan to escape religious persecution. The characters experience life-altering choices. They face the challenge to see how God is in control even when their world seems to be shaken, and there are no simple answers. This ...more
