6 books74 followersChris Allen is a former paratrooper, with service in the Australian Army - including attachments to the New Zealand Army, the British Parachute Regiment and deployments to Africa, South East Asia and Central America. He retired at the rank of Major.
In addition to his military career: Chris led security operations for a major international aid agency in East Timor during the 1999 emergency. In the wake of the September 11 attacks of 2001, he oversaw the upgrade of Counter Terrorism First Response measures at Sydney Airport. And in 2003 when protestors painted ‘No War’ on the sails of the Sydney Opera House, he was headhunted to take over the protection of the iconic landmark. In 2008 he was appointed Sheriff of New South Wales, one of Australia’s most historic law enforcement appointments.
Today, Chris is a full-time author and lives on the New South Wales south coast with his sons, Morgan and Rhett. You may even see him from time to time cruising up and down the east coast on his treasured Triumph Thunderbird LT!
Chris currently has four novels in his best-selling INTREPID series featuring ALEX MORGAN: DEFENDER, HUNTER, AVENGER and HELLDIVER, which were previously published by Pan Macmillan/Momentum. All four novels are currently available in audio format, published by Wavesound Australia. The INTREPID series has been optioned for film and television.

In addition to his INTREPID series, Chris is currently working on an exciting new thriller series featuring former Commando and Australian Secret Intelligence Service veteran BENJAMIN RHETT. In the series, RHETT will be teamed up with former Army Intelligence Officer and current Australian Security Intelligence Organisation agent KAT THOMAS.
The first two novels in the series will be titled EMERALD BEACH and STORM POINT.
Chris is a member of the Australian Crime Writers Association (ACWA) and an Associate Member of Screen Producers Australia (SPA).

January 19, 2016Alex Morgan is back in the 4th book in the Intrepid series and he's got his mojo back. Just in time as the black ops Intrepid division is in real trouble and Morgan and Elizabeth Reigns are the only agents who can sort out the mess.
The Intrepid books are an absolute gem of a thriller series from Australian author (and ex-paratrooper) Chris Allen. Getting the military and action aspects spot on is one highlight, but where Allen really excels is in getting nuance and emotion into an all action type hero, equally capable of hand to hand combat or ruthless gun-play in the event that it's required.
In HELLDIVER the plot is nicely twisty with some just evil as well some misguided baddies. There are harks back to the bad old days of the Soviet Union and the KGB, linked forward to the world of current day Russian oligarch's. There's some gloriously over the top luxury locations with huge yachts, and huge houses, just as you'd expect in the best of spy thriller books and novels.
At the heart of it all though is Alex Morgan. He of the sometimes sore feet, and the questioning of his commitment, along with a longing for love and fierce loyalty that just about throws him when old connections resurface in this book. He's ably supported by a surrounding cast of returning, and sometimes new characters. Elizabeth Reigns is back again in HELLDIVER, albeit a little later in the action, but as always she's up to the same level of resolve and commitment as Morgan ever is. As you'd expect in this style of book, there's a lot of concentration on the central protagonist, but not, in a way that dismisses or caricatures those surrounding him. His female characters in particular are in there for their abilities, and their contribution - not as eye candy or merely decorative.
The strength of this series really is the all-roundedness of it. They are spy / action / hero thrillers with one bloke to save the world against big, believable and chilling threats. Our hero is brave, strong, true, loyal and good. He's also ruthless and vulnerable, and, you'd imagine, likely to groan just a little as he rises from his chair, dusts himself down, shakes out the back and strengthens the resolve to head out, yet again, and save the world.

Chris Allen delivers another great read and our hero, Alex Morgan, doesn't let us down. Action, intrigue and good old fashioned story telling.

Thanks to net galley.com, Chris Allen and Momentum (Pan Macmillan) for the advance ARC copy for my honest review and won't give too much away. Due to it being something a fan of the Action/Adventure genre will want to read.
Heldiver (Intrepid #4) was my first read by author Chris Allen, liked the read, liked his character Alex Morgan and will read the rest the rest of the series.
Originally I thought, Helldiver started too slowly but the further I got in the book realized that it was perfect for the pace, it's well written, researched and perfect for a storyline that could be ripped right out of the headlines.
I liked both the Alex Morgan and Elizabeth Reigns characters, they are partners, make a good team, basically make Helldiver a great read and they make the Russians look bad.
This was my style of book, full of twist and turns, had a fast pace, tension filled, full of action, multiple storylines, ripped right out of the headlines and built to a great conclusion.
Helldiver's an international thriller, one were Author Chris Allen uses his imagination to create a plausible, believable read and just stretches it a few times without hurting the story.
Lastly, anytime I start a series in the middle of it, like this one being No. 4. I just expect or hope that the author sells me on wanting to pick-up the rest of the series and Chris Allen does just this with 'Helldiver'.

This book had me hooked from the start and did not let go. The action was amazing, the danger intense. OMG. Alex Morgan versus Sharks. I really love the Intrepid series and this latest book did not disappoint. Alex Morgan is the ultimate action hero, ready to die to save innocent lives. He's not perfect, he has his flaws, but that's what makes him even more likeable. And the plot is one that has an eerie blend of truth and fiction that resonated long after I read the last page.
If you are looking for an intelligent edge of your seat thrill ride then you need to read the Intrepid Series.
Love it.

The best Intrepid Series Book Yet!
What a wild ride. This book has it all.
A lost love, a spy embedded in the system and a killer lurking around every corner. I recommend this book and the Intrepid Series to everyone who enjoys a story that will keep them glued to the pages cover to cover.

Another SPECTACULAR read
The Alex Morgan series is an evolving adventure. It represents current and past geo political views that keep the readers interest. I am hooked and can hardly wait for the next one. Please keep them coming.

Good read.

Another intense read in the series. Non-stop action, with strong characters makes this a lot of fun

I didn't realize this was 4th in the series, but it read just fine anyway. Told in the third person, Allen takes advantage of many chapter breaks to zero in on different characters/action. Lots of realistic tension. Character driven with a side order of extra action. It was a fun read!
