It's Halloween and the library in Bodie Lighthouse is decorated for the season. The Lighthouse Library is also in the running to receive a donation of a historical documents collection from a rich businessman, Jay Ruddle. Unfortunately, during a lecture at the library on local ghostly legends, Ruddle is found dead in the library's rare book room. Spooky things start happening in the library after Ruddle's death.....lights flickering, ghostly horses appearing and inanimate skeletal sailors on a m ...more

I love this series and I was so happy to find out that it was continued with a new publisher.

The library in the lighthouse never fails to get me dreaming. I wish there was such a thing but I have yet to see a lighthouse that would actually be big enough to accomodate a library and an appartment. But hey, this is fiction so let's dream and enjoy.

Spook in the Stacks can be read as a stand alone but I thoroughly enjoyed knowing and remembering the characters and their strengths and flaws.

I admit I was late to the party on this series. I started reading it in April and was so taken by the premise of a library in a lighthouse I read all three looking forward to this new release. I could have started with this one because with the publisher change the author wrote this so it could stand on its own but the first three were great stories and I was able to enjoy all the prior character development.

In this story, Lucy’s book group is reading Washington Irving’s The L

It's Halloween at the Bodie Lighthouse Library and amongst the guests is a murder and victim. It's been way too long, almost four years since I read the third book in the series. Not because I didn't love it as I've rated all four books in the series as 4 star books. It was great getting to know Lucy, Bertie and the rest of the cast of characters again. Of the new characters introduced in this book my favorite has to be Professor Eddie McClanahan, odd, quirky, reader. I hope we see lots m

I really enjoyed this much-anticipated book in the Lighthouse Library series. Even though I may be one of those who hasn't read the others (yet, I do have them on hand) I didn't feel lost at any time since the author does a great job of explaining and catching readers up without giving away any of the juicy details from the previous mysteries. I was super surprised at who the killer was and loved the showdown. Can we just say that book nerds rule? ;) You'll see what I mean when you read it!

The Lighthouse Library Mystery series is a favorite of mine, and my sister. I want to send a thank you to Crooked Lane Books for picking up this series and giving us readers more time with the wonderful characters.

It was so easy to fall back into the grove with protagonist Lucy Richardson and the crew of the Brodie Island Lighthouse library. Through the words of author Eva Gates, it was incredibly easy to picture the library and surrounding area, as well as hear the characters voices as I read t

I am ecstatic that the Lighthouse Library Mystery Series is continuing with Cooked Lane Books. THE SPOOK IN THE STACKS is a terrific addition to the series, a wonderful homage to THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN, and can easily be read as a standalone book (but…for those of you new to the series, trust me, you will want to read assistant librarian Lucy’s entire adventures).

Halloween festivities are in full force at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library in North Carolina as the story opens. Even the

oday I am reviewing a book that I am so grateful to Crooked Lane Books for publishing. The Lighthouse Library Series by Author Eva Gates is one of my most favorite. I have always loved lighthouses and have dreamed of living in one, so when the series came out about a librarian who lived in a lighthouse library I knew this was a book I had to read. I actually bought the series and to see this one picked up and saved by Crooked Lane Books makes my heart soar. In Spook in the Stacks the amazing Lib ...more

I don’t think I’ve read enough cozy mystery novels to say if they are my thing or not, but I’m going to say I’m leaning towards no.

The writing was good, albeit a bit repetitive in some parts. I prefer my mysteries a bit more mysterious, and with a bigger accent on the murder. Here it felt like a joke as the attention would be pulled to some other thing.

The main character was okay, Lucy's romance irked me just a bit because she didn’t know what she wanted out of her relationship with Connor. Ev

The Spook in the Stacks by Eva Gates(Vicki Delany)is the fourth book in the Lighthouse Library series and was the most intriguing one to date. I was thrilled when this series found a new home at Crooked Lane Books.

Ms. Gates has penned a fast paced plot with plenty of twists that kept me turning the pages. The characters have become well developed over the last three books; and I felt like I was on vacation visiting with old friends when I started reading this book. Ms. Gates' descriptive writin

First I have to say how happy I am that the “Lighthouse Library Mystery” series found a new home. I love this one. OK a library and home in a lighthouse may not be feasible at first glance, but that is why we read books isn’t it. To have the hard or impossible to attain be at our fingertips. The characters in this series are enjoyable and fun. The writing is stellar and lights up the page. “The Spook in the Stacks” is set at Halloween and boy is the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library getting into t ...more

I had been hoping this wonderful series would continue and this latest installment set during Halloween at the Bodie Lighthouse Library did not disappoint. When native son and millionaire Jay Ruddle visits the library to discuss his interest in donating his valuable collection of Outer Banks historic documents, the e ...more

The Spook in the Stacks has my dream setting – a library in a lighthouse that the main character lives in. Sign me up for that job, please!

Lucy is a relatable heroine who loves her job and also can’t help but investigate crimes in their small Outer Banks town. She has a bevy of engaging secondary characters to team up with, including the library’s resident cat Charlie who seems to have a knack for crime solving too. Gates does a great job of creating realistic characters without losing the quirk

I am so happy that this series was able to continue!! What is not to love about a library in a lighthouse???? Two of my favorite things water and books. This volume, the fourth, takes place around Halloween, I will admit, not my favorite holiday, but this was a very good mystery and not too over the top with the spooky for me, so I enjoyed it. I think what consistently draws me to this series is Lucy, the main character, and Charles of course, the library cat who shares Lucy's digs on the fourth ...more
