What would you do if you think your baby brother is an alien send from outer space?
This is one of the books for WBD 2018, one that I was hoping to add to my physical collection, but sadly neither Amazon nor Book depository had it in stock. *sighs*Oh well.
I haven't read any of the books in this series (yes, apparently there is a series with the characters from this book), but I am happy to say that one doesn't need to have read the other books + it doesn't spoil anything from the series. Though of course, I will be reading the other books as soon as I have a chance. If these kids have more adventures like this, I want to read them!
Back to this book. During one assembly one of the teachers has brought her newest kid, a tiny baby named Harim. All the teachers love the baby and immediately run towards it when the assembly is over, Our kids suspect something is very odd about the baby. Especially when even the lunch ladies are smiling! They team up with Haroon, the older brother of Harim. He also suspects something is going on with his brother, and he already has a theory, his brother is from OUTER SPACE! Yes, his brother must be an alien!
As an adult I quickly could see where this story would go, and of course I also understood the adults and why they acted the way they did. Still, I had tons of fun seeing our kids try to figure out if Harim is truly an alien or not. They try all sorts of things, even making glasses to stop the harmful alien rays of manipulation. :P And also I can imagine that the kids think that the baby is an alien. Those eyes. The stuff that happened when he was around.
I did think it was a bit odd for such a young baby to sit upright, eat chips, and other foods. Unless of course the kid is a bit older than he looks. For me he looks like to be a few weeks old going by the illustrations.
I also love the way the story was told, with bold and in capital letters. Some words were even more special and had stars (or other things) around them.
Oh, and I would also have loved to have a secret lair when I was at primary school. Just a place to hide and relax for a bit.
The book is also illustrated, and I just realised it is done by Thomas Flintham! That explains why they seemed quite familiar and why I took an instant liking to them. I also have his Mazes and Puzzles books. So big plus points to the fun art!
So I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to everyone. You will giggle, you will gasp, and you will have a fabulous time.

I got this as my free book token and I really liked it. It made me laugh and laugh!! Its good it was free because I never new about it before!!

This is a World Book Day 2018 book and I think is an excellent showcase for the author and her books (which I’d not came across before) as I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.
This is the story of “the time a BABY came to our school from OUTER SPACE”. The baby is a VIP guest in the school and is introduced at assembly by the head teacher Mr Graves. “This is our VIP guest for the day. What a great opportunity for us all to learn about babies!” It is Mrs Akbar’s baby - “Our Year 3 teacher that we hadn’t seen for ages” – which means it is also Haroon from Y5’s baby brother and he is glum. “It’s my baby brother. I think he’s from OUTER SPACE!” The blurb says: “The baby is clearly using mind control because the office ladies are being REALLY NICE. He spells space words with his blocks and he REALLY LIKES SCHOOL DINNERS!” (“Zach said that the ONLY REASONABLE EXPLANATION [for the liking of school dinners] was that aliens couldn’t TASTE and that they only ate food to SURVIVE and get STRONG.”)
There is humour in abundance here. There is humour in the situation with the kids misunderstanding the things going on around them. There is humour in the characters who are mainly all school kids who have OTT reactions to the situations (with pictures to match showing their surprise, shock etc.). The whole book is also being told through the eyes of a child so there is humour here in how a child sees things differently from how an adult might. There is humour when the kids exhibit grown-up behaviour, for example when legal agreements have to be signed so the location of a secret den is not disclosed to anyone else. And there is humour for adults as well as the children - “this was one of the WEIRDEST things Mr Graves had ever said at an assembly and it was probably even weirder than the time he said all the stuff about STRESS and PAPERWORK and then started crying a bit” – this might be over kids heads but adults would be able to relate to the joke. And the humour is a constant throughout until an emotional moment towards the end as things are resolved.
So the book was great and I am going to look out for other books by the author now.

HILARIOUS!
There's a baby. He's controlling everyone with his mind. And he may or may not come from Mars.
The Baby Brother From Outer Space! is a great book. It's a quick, easy read, but also very funny. It was very exciting as well. Especially because Maisie, a character in the story, just faints a lot because she is scared. It was even better because you don't actually have to read the other books in the series. You can just read any random book of the series. It doesn't matter.
I think seven and over would like to read this book. It is easy to understand (except for the first chapter, which you understand AFTER you have read the whole book) although I think a six year old MIGHT want to read it, maybe if you read it out loud to them or something.
(SPOILER ALERT) In the end, they find out that the baby (his name is Samir, by the way) is actually not an alien. But then Samir (I don't mean to be rude) just does a POO- which is GREEN. So OF COURSE he is an alien!*
Overall, this book was so funny and amazing. I say it's six stars. (I know the maximum is five but I say SIX because it was so good.)
*Not trying to be a wet blanket but personally I think that happened because the dinner ladies were feeding him a lot of spinach.

These books are amusing for all three members of our family. This one was a quick World Book Day size version (still just as enjoyable), and I especially liked the misinterpretations of Samir the baby’s behavior as alien mind control.

It will only work for you if you like babies. Not much of a story and a lot of talking about the baby and the sounds it makes or liquids it excretes. I was not amused (however love other P.Butchard books)

Haroon's baby brother comes into school and Izzy and her friends think that he's from outer space. When the teachers and dinner ladies start acting all nice and he spells space words with his blocks they know for certain he's not from earth.I really liked this book because it was very mysterious and exiting.
