I didn't ask Chase to take me in when my life fell apart. Turns out my BFF has some kind of sick white-knight complex I can't wrap my head around. He told me I could stay with him under one condition: Absolutely no drugs or booze.
What a killjoy, right?
Despite his bad-boy exterior, Chase has always been my safe haven. The tattooed antidote to my life of crazy. Moving in with him seemed like a great idea but I never expected to start thinking about him the way I have been.
Fantasizing. Lusting. Wondering.
Until a moment of weakness lands him in my bed.
One night of toe-curling, back-bowing passion I'll never forget. And I've tried. It's impossible.
Chase didn't fight like hell to get clean and sober just to toss it away on a hot mess like me. I'm a lost cause. Yet, it's a reckless risk he seems willing to take... even if my salvation means his ruin.
From USA Today bestselling author, Jane Anthony, comes a stunning, standalone masterpiece about addiction, recovery, and reckless, ugly, never-ending love.
Jane Anthony is a USA Today best-selling author of contemporary/new adult romance & women’s fiction. A reader proclaimed “queen of angst”, she approaches tough subjects with a gritty voice that tugs on your heart and leaves you breathless.
Jane gives a bit of herself and her quirky knowledge in each novel by incorporating her love of music through a book-specific playlist and adding things uniquely Jane to the plot, like her crazy family or '80s trivia. When she’s not busy being mom or Mrs. A, you'll find her at a concert, lost in a book, or watching horror movies with her husband.
I just finished reading Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony.
HAWT! Whowsa! So hot, it might actually give you blisters on your fingertips!
This book was seriously addicting! Maybe it’s only fitting as the book focuses on two addicts.
The complexity of the characters and their situations was astonishing.
Each with their own demons to battle but so much alike - both need each other's strength at different times (as most of us could relate to) but are they strong enough to hold each other up? When you are both battered and broken hearted - it can be hard enough to keep yourself standing up - never mind another person that needs you.
I literally just put this book down 5 minutes ago and I’m already pining for more.
This book has it all! Complicated family bonds, friendship, hardship, sweet moments, hilarious moments, piping hot sex and love - a love that runs so deep, you can feel it.
I love Chase - he is sweet, funny, sturdy and hot but he has a past that won’t let him go. A past that hurts so bad that he hasn’t been able to move forward.
My favorite is Kat! She is sassy, strong willed, hot tempered, sweet and funny. But Kat has her own hurt that she is currently trying to push aside.
Join these two beautiful, broken souls in their epic journey of self discovery and love. You won’t regret it!
Blurb: Two years ago, I watched my girlfriend die.
We chased the high, night and day, searching for that magical fix that would cure the pain. But in the end, the escape she lived for took her from me.
Now, sober and rebuilding the life I almost destroyed, the last thing I need is another beautiful project dragging me down. Especially a Greek goddess with a sharp tongue and a drinking problem. But hidden inside Katarina's charcoal gaze is a broken soul crying out for help. Like a true addict, I can't say no.
Maybe if I can save her, it will make up for my past. But her salvation could also be my ruin.
Pretty Ugly (Addicted Hearts #2) By Jane Anthony 4 Stars
I will be honest here…I was so scared to start this book. I read the blurb and thought oh no…Chase and Kat deserved their happy ending and diving into Pretty Ugly made me scared for them.
Addiction is a lifelong battle. Never a day goes by that you are not battling the demons telling you to do it… Take that sip, inject that needle, smoke that pipe. No matter what battle you are fighting, you will always have to be stronger.
This story is not a fluffy unicorn chasing glitter. Its raw and takes us down the addict’s path of destruction. How one day everything is going good, you are in love, you are on your way to getting married…yet in the flash of a minute your life changes. You have fallen back into the black hole. Falling further and further. Lying, Stealing, Using, Hurting, but you are the big person because when you are high, you are indestructible.
I really enjoy Kat and Chase and could really see reading more from their story. The ending of this book left it open for us to enjoy more. Fingers Crossed!!!
I fricken loved Kat! Her sharp tongue and fuck you attitude won me over with a quickness! Give me a flawed character who is strong, independent and a quick witted and I'm all in. Kat has issues and rather than deal, she covers them up with an iron clad attitude and a shit ton of liquid courage.
This is a beautiful, emotional and honest look at how addiction can seep into a person's life and take over in ways you would never think possible. Every addicts road out of denial and into recovery is a completely unique one and two addicts in one relationship is certainly a recipe for disaster. Yet in Chase and Kat's case it's not the addiction that poses the greatest threat. I found this story touching and real but with a unique blend of humor and wit, it avoided becoming depressing, as many addiction stories tend to be.
Must say, first 20% of the book made me question my choice. I was wondering whether I'd finish it. But then it picked up and then it all got better and brighter.
Chase is cool. He is strong and so put together. But he is heartbroken in a way that never heals. Kat is a mess. No matter how much she tries, life just seems to throw another dig at her.
I liked Kat. Not so much fan of Chase. It was a good read.
I am in awe of Jane Anthony, The power of her words, has got to me. The viseral, hedy feeling left me gutted. The story of addiction isn't a romantic one in notion, but the intense feeling and characters, begs to differ. The strong connection between Kat and Chase feels like two magnets, crashing together with such force it knocks you on your knees. The underlying addictive quality of their relationship, sucks you in and traps you. until your left shaking in withdrawls, when it's over.
Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony a great four-star read. This is my first read by this author, and I hope to read some more. This is a stand-alone romance and is the story of friends to lovers, but it’s not your normal friend to lover where they went to school together or a typical meet cute, these two friends broken people who have addictions and if you know anything about addictions you know it’s easy to swap one for another. Jane Anthony has done something not many authors can, she has dealt with addiction and not made it all glamorous and glossy, but she has also shows that it’s also not always the opposite end of the scale. That seems to be the only way most people can write it, here the author has shown the true side of addiction and has also shown that there are sometimes reasons behind the problems and how easy is it to slip. This really is a beautiful story about a subject that not many can deal with, if you haven’t had to live through addiction then this will give you a glimpse of the life you could lead, and if you have been touched by addiction this will remind you why people need to be strong. A great read for anyone.
This is my first book by this author and it was pretty damn good.
The story was addictive, the same way the characters struggled with their own addictions I couldn't get enough. I read page after page with hope for these two lost souls.
Kat was a woman who has no self-worth, drinking, partying, a string of one night stands and nothing to show for her life but misery and nights of more alcohol to numb the pain.
Kat is a very much the fiery Greek character when she first meets Chase. Following a one night stand, the guy promises to take her home, when he makes a stop off at the garage were Chase works, Kat is unimpressed with how long the guy is taking and with Kat needing to get to work ends up in an argument with one-night stand guy. After being manhandled Kate takes the guy down leaving him with a busted nose, resulting in chase taking her home.
"She's a mess of gorgeous chaos"
"She grew on me like fungus then blossomed before my very eyes"
Chase is a guy who at first seems too good to be true, a night in shining armor or Overalls, he see's something in Kat he wants to fix. Chase is sweet, charming lives and cares for his Gran, see too good to be true. Chase is a hot mechanic but has his own ghosts and a past he is trying to move on from.
Both characters have heart-breaking pasts and brighter futures they are clawing their way too. Chase helps Kat, they become friend's before lovers and the journey is heartwarming, doesn't lack drama or hotness and also reaches a hea which had me surprised at finding a second book following this one?
"The pain that burns deep in her soul - it's the same pain in mine. We are cut from the same cloth. Children of the moon. One body ripped in two. Destined to find each other"
I guess the grass doesn't stay green which is disappointing to discover, but as story's go I enjoyed this journey, would recommend it and you will to if you aren't put off by Kats promiscuous ways at the beginning and enjoy a story were the characters go from hardship, heartache to finally getting on with life and finding love.
O.K, I hold my hands up! When I reached the end of Pretty Reckless, I then read chapters one and two which follow on in the eBook and having been happy with the ending of Pretty Reckless to then discover that Kat and Chase's story continued. I was disappointed to find the happy ever after I imagined Kat and Chase to be venturing into was not going to happen, not yet anyway. The wedding was set, they were both in love, Chase was unhappy with his low paid job and having, felt a little inadequate to Kat being the higher earner but other than that I honestly didn't know where else this story would go but Wow what a second story. You could almost read these as two separate books.
In Pretty Reckless Kat is the one who needs saving, she is basically her own worst enemy, addicted to partying and alcohol that temporarily numbs her pain, Chase is the ex-drug addict, the confident knight in shining Armour that rescues her.
In the words of Vivian from Pretty Woman, "she rescues him right back".
I loved this story, the reality of it, people do slip up, its not all roses and rainbows in real relationships especially for addicts, the author showed the temptations an addict faces and his decay until Kat breathed life into him again, but wasn't until after Chase had reached rock bottom and once again he was having to claw his way up, back to Kat back to reality.
Brilliant, read in one sitting. A story of inner turmoil, struggles, failures, forgiveness, and redemption.
I was so engrossed in the story I can't even tell you the hotness scale lol but from what I remember from book one the author has a brilliant balance of drama and hotness in the plot. Available in Ku Told In first person and hallelujah does lead to a hea
This emotional journey is one I won't forget for a while. There are some scenes that will leave you fanning yourself and in need of a cold shower. But the scenes that will stick with you are the heartfelt, incredibly beautiful, raw and emotional ones that seem to linger. Both characters are flawed, they're broken, but they're real. So real in fact that you're left filled with heartfelt emotion wanting to see them find some semblance of happiness.
Kat, to be honest, she wasn't my favorite in this story. Perhaps I just wanted to slap her upside the head and tell her to open her eyes. But that's what a good character does, they make you feel. And with her, I went through every emotion possible. In the end though, I was vying for her HEA. I NEEDED her to find peace, happiness, and ultimately love.
Chase! This man is everything and a bag of chips. If this book was only about him I'd have been happy too. I fell and I fell hard. He is one of those alpha's that come across as unassuming, he's not your average alpha male, but he is not lacking in the characteristics that make you want to love him. Because he will. He'll pull you in, grip your heart, and never let go. At least, he did with me. He is incredible in every sense of the word and HE IS MINE! Just putting it out there.
Jane has outdone herself. With each book she releases she only outshines the last, if that's even possible. Her words are incredible, her characters are perfectly created, and her stories are gold. I'm so privileged to have read this amazing story.
Every once in awhile you come across a story that hits home. A story that you can relate to. A story that sits in your gut and pulls at your heart because u know have, or know someone who has, gone thru something very similar. This book was that for me. This story…. Is very real. Real in the sense that it goes in around every one of us but some choose to pay no attention. This is a story that will show you a truth that you may not like, but it's there. It's real. And I loved EVERY SINGLE word. In book one we get to see Kat and all her flaws. We get to see Chase show her who she really is. See Chase love her and help guide her and take care of her. He has already been in her shoes. He has already overcome his demons….. or has he. This book shows us that you can never take anything for granted. You can't always have the “been there done that" mentality and assume that the past is the past. The past always returns. And it's always closer than we think. This story reminds us that Love isn't always easy. Love isn't always pretty. And Love isn't always kind. But it's worth it. Love is never giving up and never backing down. Love is being Hard when one needs to be. And being soft when it counts. Love is always worth it. And Love, in the end, always wins. I fell in love with Chase in book one. And I fell even more in this book.
This is the second book following Pretty Reckless but I wouldn’t call it second best. This book blew me away! Jane Anthony some how took the readers through a hard reality in book one to another real and deep reality in this book, all while keeping the storyline flowing throughout and with some of the same characters. Pretty Ugly made me fall in love with Chase and Kat all over again from start to finish. When someone had an addiction chances are they will always have one, whether it’s to the same thing or moves onto a new one. That’s the reality in this story and that’s the root of Chase and Kat. It wasn’t always easy to read about, because it wasn’t easy for them, but I was just as addicted...to each word, each feeling, every moment. Such a powerful emotional roller coaster, I couldn’t believe it. Then add in the multiple orgasmic scenes this book hottie had I’d say this is a perfect happy ending.
Jane has outdone herself on this one. An emotional rollercoaster read that touches on subjects that affect so many at this moment. Addiction isn't something to take lightly and it's a hard thing to break/ to control. But once you find that control, you hold on tight and don't let go. Kat and Chase match each other perfectly. And some of the scenes between these two.... hot and heavy, leaving you breathless. Love it! Love all the feels!
Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony is a story about a broken woman who has demons and her fight for life. This story is an emotional reality to many people around the country, everyone will relate to the characters in this story. This is not my first book by this author but with each book I have read of hers, she has never let me down on a good emotional story. Her writing style is such that it will pull you in from the first word until the very last. Her characters will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride that you will have a hard time forgetting. They will make you feel like you are right there one of them. This story does have some sensitive material relating to alcoholism and drug abuse. The situations where handled in a mature manner, well written.
This is the story of Kat and Chase. Their story is not all sugar and spice but they are faced with real situations that you will relate too. These two will take your emotions through the cycles for sure, one minute laughing and the next crying. There isn't anything that these two don't go through. They have great connection and attraction but instead of messing with what works, they deny themselves what could be out of this world. There are many ups and downs with them but some how they always manage to find themselves back to each other, will it always be that way? She is running from her past but will the past catch up with her? These two are really strong characters that you can just see with every word that comes out of them. I give them so much credit for coming as far as they have and overcoming things that some think are impossible. They are so broken that when it looks like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, hope starts to pop through. Will they be able to heal each other? Will they get their HEA?
This is a fast paced story that I couldn't put down. I read it in one sitting because I needed to know what the end would bring. It held my attention to the end. I totally lost track of time with this story and I think it will pull you in too. I highly recommend this story as it is rarely that I find an emotional read like this one.
This was my first book by Jane Anthony and I have to ask myself, Why? This story flowed perfectly and kept me engaged until the very last page.
Katarina Andropolls oh wait…I mean Katarina Andropoulos. No one ever gets her name right and that’s basically how her life is spinning out of control. Never getting anything right. Alcohol is her drug of choice. Everything seems to get better with a messed-up life when you down drink after drink.
Going home with complete strangers, never remembering their names. Hoping that they will follow through with their promise of taking her home the next day.
Chase has fought the demons for years. Trying to get his life in order, he is so thankful to his boss for giving him the chance. It’s not like he doesn’t hear the voices anymore to tell him to do drugs or have a drink. He has the constant reminder that he will ‘over come’ everything.
When Kat and Chase meet up, its toxic.
But why do they both feel different when they are with each other.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I was absolutely addicted to this book and could not put it down, so it's fitting that Jane wrote about two addicts. Jane writes about the true grit when it comes to matters of the heart and how we all have to work in order for things to work out. Kat is an absolute shambles but doesn't realize how bad it all is until she meets Chase. She has the ambition and does want more for her life but it all has to truly fall apart for her to realize that her life a state. Chase has his own demons and doesn't deal with it until he meets Kat and realizes that there can be more to life. These two bring out the best and the worst in each other and this roller coaster ride will hold onto your heart while you go through it with them. I don't want to spoil this but I can say that even though there is a happy for now ending, you can tell that there is more to come. This is my honest and unbiased review.
omg you rocked this book! i just loved it! another awesome book you wrote! it had me in tears on some parts. its about two people with demons from there past. can these two help each other heal them? read to find out what happens in this touching story of courage. thanks for giving me a chance to read this book!
I sit here, thinking, where do I even start to be able to put the right words together for this review to be able to adequately reflect the level of this novel. So here goes... Jane has done an outstanding job in this second book. I thought that I had seen enough of Kat and Chase but then she went and proved how much more they still had to go. This is so filled with a soul-deep kind of love that not everyone gets to experience, and seeing what they would do for each other makes my heart hurt. I cried and laughed and then cried some more because there is just an abundance of emotion that bleeds off the page and seeps its way into your soul. The best part for me is the realism, and trust me that is hard for me to say. I generally read to escape but the way that Kat and Chase are with each other, it makes me believe in not only true love but real love. The kind of love that you would sell your soul for and then just keep asking for more. It's raw and gritty and just gets me on a whole other level. Yes, there is sex and there is drama and it kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next and what these two brokenly beautiful souls would do to survive. I could not put this book down and now it has come to an end and I demand more! It does not matter that my heart feels a little tattered, I just feel like there is so much more to their journey and I want to be on that ride with them but at the same time, I need time to recover for the next emotional ride that I know I will be taken on. Thank you, Jane, for this amazing journey and I look forward to more. This is my honest and unbiased review.
I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Jane Anthony!
Ohh man, ALL the feels. This book is about addiction, and how it not only affects the person who suffers from it, but the people around them too. It’s about how fighting it is a lifelong struggle, and not a one-time thing. It’s about how strong a person has to be in order to fight it. There are many instances in this novel where we see characters hit rock bottom and how raw it is.
This book was so well written in regards to character development (I don’t know if that’s the right term for it). Anthony shows us how a substance can change a person; how it can make someone unrecognizable. Those characters “personality changes” were just so well done that they felt real. Everything in this book feels REAL.
Despite how dark some parts of the book were, it is filled with light as well; filled with the strength of the love between Kat and Chase, filled with hope. It also still has humour that made me laugh. The lighter passages and underlying love in this book balance out the darkness and create something beautiful.
Lastly, this book is about family. Not necessarily blood family, but your chosen family. The people you love and keep around you. It’s also about their support and their love.
Final note: I was unable to put this book down and pretty much read it in one sitting without stopping. If that isn’t a testament to how good it is, I don’t know what is.
When I first read Pretty Reckless I fell in love with Chase immediately. He was everything, he stole my heart and I thought there wouldn't be more from him, or Kat. But when Jane mentioned a second book, I was excited, because I wanted my man back. Chase has this way of burrowing into your heart with his demons, with the darkness he hides. I was smitten. Needless to say, I hated Kat, not because she was a bad character, but because she got to be with Chase.
Pretty Ugly was an emotional rollercoaster. It broke my heart, it ripped me to pieces, but slowly, piece by piece, it put me back together. Chase and Kat have 'that' kind of love. You know what I'm talking about, the kind you see and have to hash tag #relationshipgoals. It's not perfect, it's nowhere near what people would think HEA's are made from, but what drew me in about these two is that it's real. IT'S F*CKING REAL!
Once again, Jane Anthony delivers on a heartfelt, emotional, and sometimes soul shredding love story that will stay with me forever. Chase is still mine. I've claimed him, licked him, and married him. So hands off!
Let’s shout out loud the reasons why this book deserves all the stars it can get.
This was one of the most fascinating journey I had had this year, and it was by the hands of Jane Anthony.
It seems almost impossible to translate into words all the emotions I faced while reading this piece of art. Because that’s what this book is; an incomparable, well written and beautiful piece of art.
Since the very first page, you understand how difficult it must had been for this author to write this book. It’s unbelievable to discover that Jane has an exceptional writing style that is capable of giving you goosebumps for how real her story and her characters were.
Even after I reached the end, I’m still amazed by this book. I went all in completely blind, and I think it was the best decision I made. The only thing I should warn you off is to be ready by all the amount of tears you will have to endure. Some were from joy, and others from sadness.
Meeting people is the easy part. It’s keeping them that takes work. A good relationship is worth fighting for.
One of the things I loved the most about Kat was her conviction. How determine she becomes when she sets her mind into something. Especially when it involves the people she loves.
Facing rejection and betrayal from her loved ones were the catalyst of her destruction. But when she finds Chase, all the pieces of the puzzle start to have a purpose and a meaning. Problem is that real life is never simple. There is pain, there are tears, there is heartbreak, but there is also love. Against all the adversities, Kat will learn how beautiful the reward can be if you keep fighting, if don’t give up.
Addicted hearts, bruised and battered and torn in half yet, when put together, make one seamless whole. It’s messy, and ugly, and sometimes grueling, but it’s ours, and that’s what makes it so perfect.
Our broken Chase seemed as if he had all figured out, as if he was the voice of reason, but when you start to lie to others and lie to yourself, there are only two options; you go down or you move forward.
I consider Chase a warrior. His arc is definitely a tough one. It’s raw, it’s painful but it’s also admirable. I think he just needed a purpose in his life. That one thing that could be the proof of his existence in this world and a constant lesson in which he could learn day after day that we are human, we make mistakes, but we always need to get up and do our best.
Loving Kat was his purpose. She was the light he so desperately was searching for after all those years of darkness. Even at their worst, I can't stop loving these characters and their unforgettable story.
I will definitely recommend this story and there is no doubt I will read more of Jane’s books.
Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony is a sublime read- an angsty, dramatic, warts and all glimpse into the life of an addict and the toll that it takes on life (and love). This is a story of personal demons, damaged and flawed souls, of denial, of strength and courage, overcoming obstacles… and most importantly, it’s an inspiring story of love and hope. I hadn’t read anything by this author before, so I wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect. But I needed a bit of a change of pace from the books I had been reading lately and the blurb sounded intriguing, so I took a chance, and I am so glad that I did- because it was everything I hoped it would be, and more. It’s very well written friends to lovers/ contemporary romantic fiction, that hooks the reader from the thought provoking foreword at the beginning of the book, right through until the end. Katarina Andropoulos (Kat) is twenty-five years old and works as an esthetician and makeup artist in a ritzy salon in New Jersey. In an effort to escape her past and deal with painful memories, Kat self-medicates using lots of sex and alcohol. Kat really feels unlovable and a bit of a lost cause, and after finding out what her past experiences entailed, I understand why/how she feels that way. Chase, is a mechanic who has had a bit of a checkered past- a relationship tainted by addiction and loss. He has got his life back on track, but he is stuck in the past, unable to move on with his life. I think Kat reminds him a little of himself and so he really wants to help Kat get out of her addictive cycle- he’s determined to be her rock. But is he becoming addicted to her? Will Kat drop her defences enough to let him in? Their friendship deepens and then feelings become involved- will they work their way through the problems that pop up, or will they both revert back to their destructive habits? Is what they have strong enough for forever, or will it be just a fleeting moment in time? This is a powerful, gritty, intense, raw and emotional story which was beautifully written in a way that made it feel so real and entirely believable. The characters were wonderful, I loved them both and was rooting for them right from the get-go. There were enough twists to keep the story a little unpredictable and interesting. I will definitely be reading more from this talented author.
Bangor Belle Book Besties I received an arc copy of this book in return for nothing but an honest review. This was the first book i read from this author, so i wasn't sure what to expect, but i love going into a book having no expectations. This book does cover addiction, but there is so much more to it.
Kat, 25 yrs old, fantastic make up artist with dreams of hitting the big time. She is most definitely wreckless, she sleeps around, mostly not even remembering the guy or his name. Very soon into the book its obvious she is an alcoholic, living in denial of her problem and happier to escape her past.
Chase, a mechanic, a guy with a tragic past including substance addiction. He has just now got his life together, but his failure to let go of the past holds him a little in limbo. Maybe he see's a little of himself in Kat, but he's determined to be there for her. I tell ya .. this guy is Pretty Amazing never mind Wreckless!! Together they start to rebuild, knowing they can only be friends, but what happens when you fall in love and can't ignore it? I really enjoyed this book, two broken people who find each other, one recovering one in denial, how can it possibly work. Even with their strong attraction to each other and love knocking on their door, they both also cause each other a lot of hurt. As their love strengthens and develops, you can't fail to get invested. This author deals with the subject with both sensitivity and rawness and makes it feel very real. Plenty of swooning, smiles and Tears with unexpected twists to keep you intrigued and turning the pages.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Pretty Reckless is the story of Kat and Chase. Chase was in a past relationship filled with addiction and loss. He can't get over the past no matter how hard he tries. He believe that Desire won't let him go. That he couldn't save her and his punishment is to spend his life alone and without every knowing what real love is. Upon meeting Kat, Chase sees in her a woman who needs saving. A new addiction for him. But can he and Kat ever find there way to happily ever after or are they destined to always hurt each other?
I really loved this story of to imperfect people trying to live their lives the best way they can. For Kat that was by drowning herself in lots of alcohol and nameless, faceless men. She has been hurt badly in the past and used like no one should ever have been used in their life. When Chase sees her for the first time he knows she is someone that he has to save. He feels it is his lot in life to make up for the one person he couldn't save. Thus begins the cycle of Kat and Chase. He refuses to fall in love with her and she refuses to be used again and is struggling with no one ever having loved her. This book is full of back and forth and a lot of angst. Its two addicts living their lives the best way they can and weather or not that is together remains to be seen. I really liked both of these characters and their stories. There no easy or pretty but the pay off is so worth it in the end.
Reviewed on behalf of Book Addict.live, I don’t know where to start, Kat and Chase were a complicated couple. Even though I never doubted their love for each other. Kat is reaching a desperate time in her life. Waking up next to guys she can’t remember being with the night before. Going to work smelling of alcohol, things come to a head before long. Kat has not known Chase for long, but he tries to give her a helping hand, but no sex. Chase has been down his own rabbit hole and tries to help Kat climb out of hers. When all the sexual tension breaks through, and outside pressure all serve to push a wedge between them. This is where things have been written different with Kat sorting her own life out and only then is she fit to have a relationship with the man she loves. It was pleasant change where she didn’t need a man to save her, she saved her self. Kat realised what a sexy hunk Chase was and she kept him herself, I still in mourning for my Book Hunky Boyfriend. This is a read that pulls you along and you can’t not be invested in the storyline. This is about addiction, and is a very excellent read. Jane Anthony is fast becoming one of by Go To Authors. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Pretty Reckless was incredible! The standalone by Jane Anthony had me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and I loved every single minute of it!
I loved everything about the novel, especially the characters. Chase and Kat were imperfectly perfect for each other, and even though they were each other’s weaknesses, they were also each other’s strengths. I loved how despite everything, they tried to be there for one another.
It also highlights the danger of alcohol and drug addiction. It was written incredibly well, and from what I gather, was thoroughly researched. Addictions of that kind is no easy feat, and it was done incredibly well, in my opinion.
Finally, I found it a refreshing read. It was nice to see people battle their own demons and better their lives, and it was relatable, in the sense that everybody has a past, but are trying not to be their past.
Overall, I found the novel brilliant and refreshing. The author did an incredible job on Pretty Reckless, and I cant wait to read more of her work. Brilliant!
Pretty Reckless was fantastic love story; that grabbed my attention right away. Jane Anthony did an amazing job with the storyline. The feelings I had reading the book were mixture of happiness, sadness, and a feeling of understanding.; when you have read the story to fully understand what I mean.
This love story deals with two different kinds of addiction and brings two people together who end up falling in love with each other. I found it interesting how Katrina and Chase first met, he was a perfect gentleman and she was pretty reckless. I loved how they were able to form a friendship and always be there for each other, until they couldn't hide their feelings for one another any longer. There were a lot of ups and downs in this book that deal with the touchy subject of substance abuse, but it was handled extremely well.
This is the first book I have read by Jane Anthony, I look forward to reading more books by her. This is a standalone book and an excellent read.
Pretty Reckless - Jane Anthony I was given this book for an honest and unbiased review.
Jane Anthony is a new author to me but one I will definitely be following after reading this book.
Kat and Chase are cut from similar cloth, both battling their own demons of addiction but it's the emotional connection that endears these flawed beings to the reader.
Every emotion is tackled as they navigate their relationship and although it's not an instant hit of HEA, there's a slow build to a beautifully damaged relationship.
This was a book that I wasn't sure about going in but ended up totally engrossed from the start.
There were tears and laughter aplenty as these two traversed this new thing they have together and learn to count on each other for support.
Fabulous book about some flawed and rather emotionally scarred people, struggling with their addictions but ultimately finding solace in each other. It's more about their journey than their destination.
So, Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony is an emotional and tumultuous stand alone story about two broken people finding each other and trying to be better. Everyone deserves to find their happily ever after.
Kat puts on a front of being tough and not caring, but her life is on a collision course and she’s been through a lot. She meets Chase, who seems like just this good guy who eats right and doesn’t drink. He has quite the past too, though, and neither of their families are perfect. This wasn’t as easy love story and it wasn't smooth. It was rocky and rough and emotional, at least to me. Imperfect, real people. Oh and very hot when they do get together- like smokin hot!
This is the first I have read by this author. It had dual pov with a happily ever after and the story was told so well that I definitely would read more by her in the future.
Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony was a wonderfully written dark romance novel. It tells the story of Kat, a hard partying makeup artist, and Chase, a golden hearted mechanic with a past he would rather forget about. When these to meet the sparks start to fly immediately but after a series of failed relationships Kat is more the one night stand kind of girl. Chase is determined to get her to change that. Throughout this book you see both of these characters deal with a wide range of personal issues, which helps to make the characters more real. I loved this book. Ms. Anthony does a really good job of using real world issues and weaving them into her narrative without them turning into just another plot point. The issues discussed in this book are treated with the care and respect that they deserve. A well-deserved five star rating Ms. Anthony. Well done.
