George MacDonald was a Scottish author, poet and Christian Congregational minister. He became a pioneering figure in the field of modern fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow-writer Lewis Carroll. In addition to his fairy tales, MacDonald wrote several works of Christian theology, including several collections of sermons.
I was so ready to not like this book. As soon as I found it to be by a very religious writer, I thought, well I will just have to suffer thru it. Was I ever wrong. Yes it was too religious for me but the writing was perfect. Every single sentence was good, very good. Could the story have been told in fewer pages? yes , but like I said, every single page was a pleasure to read. I can only compare the main character to the likes of LORD JIM, LAST OF THE MOJICANS, LITTLE NEL, UNCLE TOM, and JEAN VALJEAN. forgive my poor spelling as I will not spell check.
