I had very Mixed feelings about "He's a Duke But I Love Him". I just couldn't connect with Lady Olivia Jackson. She wasn't as truth forward as the other ladies in the Happy Every After series. I am also, sick of the Spinster storyline. She was very smart but lets say she didn't have as much street smarts. She was easily fooled by two conniving women. I really loved Alastair Finchley who was the Earl of Kenley in the pervious HEA series. After his fathers death he is now the Duke of Breckenridge. ...more

REGENCY WITH A TWIST!!!
This is one amazing read with all the twists and turns to keep you entralled from the first chapter through to the very end. The characters and their personalities come through with a delightful, unorthodox, easy to follow, well paced and extremely entertaining plot. Lots of laughs, love and completely out of the box scenes that will captivate and retain your focus throughout. Ellie did a remarkable job bringing this brilliant tale to life with her imagination as well as a

Lady Olivia Jackson saw her mother clutching a large envelope addressed to a mysterious P. J. Scott, the assumed man’s name she used when she wrote her column in The Financial Register. Olivia panicked and told her it was a fake name she used for correspondence. Her mother asked with whom? She said a suitor and the contents were private, because her mother had letter opener in hand to read it! Insisting on knowing the suitor’s name, her mother again reached for the letter opener and Olivia blurt ...more

Lady Olivia has had five seasons, she is an intellectual who speaks her mind. She has refused many suitors as she wants the freedom to do as she wishes - just like a man. She has a secret that, apart from her two best friends, she keeps from others. Alastair Finchley is the new Duke of Breckenridge and along with the title he has inherited his father's enormous debts.
In book 3 of the series Lady Oliver and Alastair (then an Earl - a courtesy title only) meet and flirt at a house party - neither

Well written book with great storyline, subplots and plot. A sweet book that has great romance. The story is true to it's time period and the language is also. I like when an author has made research about the time period they want to write the story in. Sometimes it was a very heavy read but absolutely worth the time.

The story just caught me and I felt I was there in the story. The characters are so real and likeable. The female characters is not like others. She steps out of the norm and that

A very entertaining read. Olivia has many interests and dreams and would rather work on numbers, ledgers and read then sit with the woman gossiping and doing needlework. She is writing in the local register under a different name giving financial advice. She gets bored easily and decides to dresses up and disguises herself to go and gamble. Alastair Finchley is thrust into the role of Duke of Breckenridge recognizes her from a previous encounter at a ball. He is quite interested in her gumption. ...more

I enjoy Ellie’s writing but I found this book a little slow paced than normal but between chapter 6-7 I was hooked. Olivia is in her 5 season and with her younger sister coming up as well her parents want her married before her younger sister. She writes a financial column for the paper but without her parents knowledge as women don’t do such things and all she really want is some adventure before she marries. She decides to disguise herself and sneak into a club and play cards. She ends up play ...more

What I liked about Olivia was she was a strong character who said what she thought. There was no hesitation about whether it was the right thing to say or whether she should ask the question. Olivia was a very intelligent lady in a time when this was frowned upon. Olivia had her mother’s matchmaking efforts to contend with as well. Alistair had no intention of marrying yet even though his father, the Duke of Breckenridge had died , and he would be expected to provide an heir. However circumstanc ...more

Not particularly fond of the heroine, unfortunately. She let's her husband kiss her even though she thinks he is spending his nights with other women. Cause, you know, he is so hot and when he touches her she suddenly can't think clearly blah blah.

The plot itself is quite interesting. He inherited quite some debt, she writes for a financial paper and therefore seems like a very smart lady. They have to marry otherwise the scandal could ruin her family and so on... Then of course they agree on ha

Wonderful historical romance!

I loved this historical romance. I liked the fact that Olivia was not some simpering damsel in distress. She is intelligent, independent, and capable. But, as a lady, she is of course expected to marry. Alistair is a new Duke by virtue of his father's death, but he isn't ready to give up his carefree ways. A marriage of convenience seems to be the way to go for both of them. The book started a little slow, but the two characters grabbed my interest, and I enjoyed wat

No one knew of Olivia's talent. At least, she didn't think so. But, she found a way to use her talent to her advantage and to the advantage of someone who really needed her help. He never expected to become a duke so quickly. What was really unexpected was the debt he inherited with the Dukedom. Now, he just needed a way to pay the debtors. Enter Olivia and her talents. Okay from page one, I was totally completely hooked! Arguably a little slow around chapter 5 or so, but really? It picks up again quickly and just keeps going. This author is one that I absolutely think is so gifted she cannot write fast enough for me! Each book is a fresh take, each characters has some unique trait that makes them interesting. This book kept me up into the night reading until I finished. It deserves the tag of unputdownable. I loved the strong feisty character that was Olivia who was clever intelligent and free. In spite of her mother’s best efforts she had managed to resist all suitors over her 5 seasons because she did not want or deserve to be held back by a ‘mere’ husband. Meanwhile Alastair the newly minted Duke did not want a wife Yet! Circumstances conspire and life changes. How will the two of them cope with t ...more

Sometimes, a marriage of convenience is NOT so convenient. Especially, if you're falling in love with your spouse -- which was not part of the deal and never supposed to happen!

This story was full of charm and wit and very likable characters. Olivia and Alistair's banter back and forth was so humorous and engaging, I couldn't help but chuckle, as I heartily rooted for more antics and shenanigans. This was a pair who were more than made for each other!

The title sucks but the book doesn't

The title sucks but the book doesn't. The horrible title was so misleading I almost didn't read it. I'm glad I did. This is a light little regency read with mildly steamy love scenes between a husband and wife. Thankfully, they are not very long or overly descriptive. The conversations are witty. Except where the h mother is involved and she's a heinous witch. It was a fast read. Not for the for whom period accuracy is important but fun fluff.

This is an adorable tale of a bluestocking and independent woman. A woman, who is willing to risk all for adventure and love. Her adventures get her married to the rake, Alastair Finchley, the Duke of Brekenridge. The Duke soon learns that Olivia is going to keep him on his toes. I enjoyed each adventure that Olivia put her husband through and laughed when he realized it was better to be in on the adventure with her, than worry about her on her own. Love is going to take this rake by surprise, i ...more

I always enjoy reading one of Ellie St. Clai’s books and this book was just as fun to read as the others I have read. Forced to marry Olivia and Alastair are both very stubborn and neither wants to give in to the other. Once they both learn to compromise and trust each other, with trust comes the ability to love.

This was enjoyable - if not a bit shallow for my tastes. For the most part I liked Olivia - I really liked that she was interested in finance and she takes control of the financial matters. Still, she wasn't as logical or straightforward as I would've liked when it came to Alistair. It annoyed me that they couldn't just have a conversation and be done with it. There was just too much drama. Easy enough read though, lighthearted.

An interesting change of pace

It is the story of a relationship of two people,at times very rocky. The heroine is a very different kind of woman in her occupation. The first seemed a little slow, but made up it in last half. It was. Sweet romance with a little spice. It is one of a very interesting story in a series. It can be standalone, but better if read in order, as you get to know reoccurring characters. I recommend, for a very short story.

What a excellent read. This book is packed with humor, this is a very engaging and entertaining read. The characters are complex, likable, have great chemistry and provide delightful banter. A very fun plot provides a stage that showcases these characters to perfection. A beautiful story of two people that think they know what they need and want only to discover so much more. I'm posting an honest review after reading an advance copy of this book.

I enjoyed this story of a strong, smart woman who is not afraid to say what is on her mind. When she catches the eye of a scoundrel Duke and is caught in a compromising position with him, he has no choice but to marry her. Neither are happy about it, but the passion they share kind of makes up for it. But will he give her what she wants: love.
