Kipton and The Caves of Mars. An expedition to study plant and animal life forms discovered in a cave forces decisions by the expedition about whether it will pursue a scientific or intuitive approach to attempt to communicate with the life forms, and the reader is nudged by proponents of both methods to take a side. When a member of the expe-dition is killed, Kipton is once again on familiar footing investigating the murder. In the course of her activities she makes contact with the martian life forms...and gets help from them.
Charles Louis Fontenay was an American journalist and science fiction writer.
He wrote science fiction novels and short stories. His non-fiction includes the biography of prominent New Deal era politician Estes Kefauver.
Mr. Fontenay served as editor of the Nashville Tennessean, among other newspapers, worked with the Associated Press and Gannett News Service. He retired to St. Petersburg, Florida where he continued to write science fiction until shortly before his death.
