Ten years ago, Shay's parents were murdered by supervillains. Now, as curious as teen Shay is about superheroes, she agrees with her older sister and guardian, Evie, that they are a nuisance to Gemini City because of the property they break and the people endangered. Evie plots to sue the superheroes and in a crazy twist, Shay is dragged along with her to become the heroes new "babysitters." With such close proximity to the heroes, secrets start to be revealed.

This was interesting. I began not really liking Evie due to her feeling she is the only one that knows what is best. She is very rigid about things. You can see that her intention for everything she does is to keep her sister safe. Especially after what happened to their parents.

Shay was an awkward teen who was sweet and smart. She didn’t care what others thought but she did care about her sister and what she wanted. Everyday for her was where she saw superheroes fight villains and her sister go

This was definitely a fun read for me! I love superheroes and this was a fun twist on them for sure!

It was one of those stories that was fast paced so I didn’t want to put my book down I love books like that.

I do think there were one or two plot holes but nothing that kept from enjoying the overall story.

If you love superheroes I think this is def a book to check out! Great for a fun and quick read maybe while on vacation!

I don't read a lot of YA, because it has to be so dark as to really be written for adults before I can usually enjoy it. Ms. Zakian is the exception to that rule because she has the knack of writing teens as they really think. Something that is so rare in this industry. I *always* buy her books for my tween, who also loves them. And as usual, the author sucks you into her world easily with her stunning, brilliant prose. The characters are truly written how young adults think and respond to thing ...more

This was such fun read! I am a huge fan of superheroes and comics, so this was right up my street, as it combines heroes/villians and a little cheeky humour to really make the story shine.

I loved that the author brought together the normal characters of a hero story, with those that have powers and save people, as well as their counters, who are attempting to tear down the lives of everyone. However, the author also gave us the realistic flip-side, in that the people despise them because of the

I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher (thank you) in exchange for an honest review. I am a huge fan of superhero stories and movies so this premise sounded unique as it focuses on the superhero impacts on "regular" people, so I knew I had to read this book.

I loved Shay and her intelligence and love for science. I enjoyed her sense of humor and loyalty to her sister Evie. I also enjoyed the "clean" romance and respect between the interested parties as far as the age differences. Ma

Just to be clear I am giving this book 4.5 stars!! I really liked this book! Shay is your average teen, who lives with her older sister who hates superheroes...Yes, totally normal except not! Shay meets Max the superhero in a stairwell, and their story begins! Shay reminds Max the superhero of his very dead superhero girlfriend...Shay is quite taken with him but she is a minor so yeah...but that whole "I like you/ you remind me so much of her" is super weird and could totally be predatory except ...more

Jamie Zakian presented a new way to look at superheroes. Her heroes are real, down-to-earth characters. I liked this image. Also Shay is a good representation of a teenager. I feel like most YA novels give teen characters too many adult characteristic, but considering Shay's back story, her character is believable.

The pacing of the story is incredible. I really didn't want to put it down. I do feel like I would liked a little more exposition to give me a break between the action and also to bui

This book was fun! I enjoyed the fresh, practical look at superheroes, along with the characters. I'd love to read more...I hope there will be a sequel :)

Review originally posted at my blog for Xpresso Book Tours:

Superheroes Suck by Jamie Zakian is well, about supers. I can still remember the time wherein I’ll refuse to pick up a book or watch a movie with superheroes in it. I HATED superheroes. Then my guy came along, and suddenly, I’m on a mission to find out if I’d grow to like them and I did! Thanks to Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu, MCU movies, and CW series, I’m suddenly craving for a lot of superhe

Superheroes Suck is an okay book. I couldn’t put it down once I started reading, so I guess that’s a plus. With that said, it had its share of problems.

Biggest problem: “Welcome to Gemini City, where super battles disrupt rush hour. Claim Adjusters are like rock stars, and villains stash the souls of murdered superheroes inside little children.” That part should have not been included on the cover or quick summary.

The basic story is that Shay, the main protagoni

I want to say first that I received a copy of this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program, and I'm grateful to the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.

This was a lot of fun, way more fun than I was expecting. It wasn't as centered around the aspects of it I thought it might be at first, but it's definitely a fun time with a lot of moving parts that weren't super dizzying and all made sense. Tightly told, really well paced, and the mysteries aren't too easily figured

It was an enjoyable read and great pick if you're interested in the concept
The plot is interesting, filled with action and fast paced. All the chapters are full of action and twists that keep you guessing. This book was like reading a DC/Marvel book and it reminded me superhero movies/ tv shows and I really liked that.. The characters were great and the superheroes had cool powers.I do think there were a few plot holes though. We didn't learn how the superheroes are created or how they go

This had all the makings of a good book. Excellent concept, with characters that appeal to a wide audience and decent writing as well.

For myself, I wasn't impressed with the work, ultimately, but I would recommend it to younger readers with interests in superhero stories, but that crave more than a simple comic or a staged trove of heroes (i.e. DC/Marvel worlds). It moved quickly and is sure to keep readers who are easily distracted more entertained.
