How Do You Take a Bath? by Kate McMullan is such a fun book from it's colorful, adorable illustrations to it's silly questions about bath time. The author shows how animals bath from wallowing in mud to kicking up dirt then she asks you if you spit on your fingers (like the bat) or bath in the mud. Sydney Hanson's illustrations are simply adorable. The little hippo and fat little piglets will make you smile. Princess Sophia wanted to hug them all. Prince Clayton loved the different animals and I ...more

How do you take a bath? Do you lick yourself clean like a cat? Do you wash your face with snow like a polar bear? Do you squirt water out your nose like an elephant? Do you roll in the mud like a pig?

This delightful book shows how various animals take a bath. Then it shows a kid trying to take a bath like the animal. Until, finally, we see the child taking a tub bath. The cute and colorful illustrations follow the text providing a fun way to learn how various animals bath.

This would be a really solid read for 2 or 3 year olds for sure. It shows different animals taking baths in their animal ways, then there are pictures of kids if they took baths like that (for example, rolling in dust, squirting water out of their noses etc) The illustrations are pretty blah, I thought, but I know that sometimes it's nice to read really straight forward books to kids, and there is an illustration for pretty much each line, which would also make it a good choice for reading to ki ...more

- This book was adorable!

- The illustrations were SO cute! My girls and I were going "Awwwwww!" on every page. We almost couldn't handle the cuteness.

- The rhymes were fun, and the way the children tried to imitate the way different animals bathe made us all laugh.

- I really appreciate the diversity. My girls noticed that one of the girls looked like them. My 2 yo even thought it was her sister.

- This is a book we won't get tired of reading over and over.

3.5 stars. "How Do You Take a Bath?" is an adorable story about how different animals, including humans, take baths. It is the perfect book to urge my girls to take a bath (sometimes an easy project, sometimes not an easy project). Filled with a nice rhyme and rhythm, this book is catchy!

The highlight for me was the illustrations! They are great and my girls love pointing out the different animals and talking about how each of the animals takes a bath. This book definitely got a thumbs up from

How Do You Take a Bath by Kate McMullan is a wonderful exploration of how different animals take a bath. This picture book tells how various animals keep themselves clean such as, "Duck splashes in a pond and flaps her wings, quack quack! Hippos busy birdies peck the bugs from off his back." Then the story asks the child, "How do you take a bath?", "...do you splash and flap and quack? Do the birdies peck your back? No!". The story ends by describing how a child takes a bath. This book would be ...more

BUYING ADVISORY: PRE-K –ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

This book asks a child how they take a bath by asking if they take a bath like a variety of different animals; do you wallow in mud like a pig or use your trunk to give yourself a shower. The illustrations are large and simple with soft colors.

This would be a fun book to read to a pre-k class, so they can yel

Whether they do it at the start or the end of the day, one thing most humans enjoy doing is taking a bath or a shower. In this charming picture book, three youngsters do just that, but they copy what various animals do to bathe, including licking themselves, settling into some dust, even scrubbing their faces with snow. The rhyming text and mixed media illustrations complement the absurdity of the various bathing scenarios that might make sense for animals but not humans. This one would be great ...more

Recommends it for: Toddler-Preschool
Animals wash and clean themselves in a variety of fun ways from a cat licking his fur to a polar bear scrubbing her face with snow. This book becomes extra fun when the narrator then asks how you take a bath and proceeds to show a child taking a bath like the aforementioned animals. I can just hear kids screaming, "Nooooo!" in response. The last page shows the "proper" child's way to take a bath ending in a nice, warm hug from mom.

As the author looks at how other animals clean themselves, it encourages children to think about how they take a bath. Different animals are featured with some sense of their habits (information is not presented in depth). It is told through a rhymed narrative. Maybe a better ook for home when a resistant child needs a little coaxing.

Would work well for a bedtime/bathtime/routines centered story time. A cute story that talks about various animals and how they take baths. Finally, we see how a little boy takes a bath. The illustrations aren't super original but they are cute. A good book!

Rhyming text describes how various animals bathe. Anthropomorphic color illustrations are sweet, and a bit cartoonish. Appropriate for preschool-K.
