A Scandal in Scarlet is the 4th book in the 'A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery' series by Vicki Delany. I was introduced to this cozy after reading a different series written by the author (Christmas All Year Round) and am very glad I checked it out. Delany is a wonderful writer whose characters, plots, and settings are a prime example of why I love cozy mysteries.

In this book, Gemma notices a fire in a nearby museum while out walking the dog. To help pay for repairs, she and Jayne host the mus

While walking her dog late one night, Gemma Doyle sees the local museum is on fire and calls the fire department. Her quick action saves the building, but much of the antique furniture and items inside The Scarlet House could not be saved. The town of West London and its businesses decide to work together and hold an auction to help repair and re-open the museum. The Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium donates a basket of Holmes-related items, and Gemma's uncle donates a signed first edition c ...more

I enjoyed this fourth installment of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mysteries much more than the last one. Either I was more forgiving of Emma Doyle’s idiosyncrasies or Ms. Delany toned them down just a titch. Either way, this was a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon.

I’m not usually a cozy mystery fan, but I have been enjoying this series. It seems that Emma may have managed to patch up her private life and is behaving with a bit more compassion to others

I finished A Scandal in Scarlet by Vicki Delany last night. I really enjoy this series. I found that in this one I was not able to guess the killer and that for me is the best. I love the way that Gemma, the main character, is written. A book store attached to a tea room is very appealing to me and I loved this particular story. It was happy/sad and cozy all at the same time. If you are a fan of Sherlock themed mysteries, that read and feel like a modern day Sherlock and Holmes story come read t ...more

This is absolutely the best book in the series so far! The characters are really showing some depth and growth that has been really needed. I love that Jayne is finally getting the respect that she deserves as Emma's sidekick. A great mystery with multiple potential suspects to add a few twists and turns along the way to keep you intrigued and entertained! I am totally looking forward to the next book in the series! I look forward to seeing how all the characters progress in the future books!

A Scandal in Scarlet by Vicki Delany is the 4th book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series. After a local museum, Scarlet House, burns down, Gemma and Jayne assist in holding an auction to raise money for the restoration only to have the museum board head murdered in the back room. These books keep getting better and better. I love Gemma's Sherlockholmian mannerisms and parallels. This is the fourth installment in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop series. Gemma Doyle is the British owner of the store on the New England coast . Her friend Jayne owns the tea shop next door and has agreed to host a fundraising auction for the recently burnt down living history museum in town. Unfortunately, the board's newly installed chairwoman is killed right before the auction begins. After a fire destroyed the Scarlet House that was part of the West London Museum, Gemma and Jayne agreed to hold a fundraiser tea in the teashop along with an auction featuring items donated from the town businesses and individual. When Gemma found Kathy, the museum board's chairman dead in the storage room for the teashop, she agreed to look into things because the annoying business neighbor Maureen claimed she was being blamed for the crime. Another fun-filled romp from Vicki Delany! A Scandal in Scarlet is the fourth cozy in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mystery series.

Gemma is walking her dog late one night when she sees flames behind the window of the historic Scarlet Museum. A candle left burning is ruled the cause of the fire. Due to interior damage, Kathy and the rest of the museum’s Board decide to have an auction to raise money for repairs. This is the fourth book in what I find to be a very entertaining series. I was originally draw to it because I am a fan of the author. What keeps me coming back is her storing telling and the terrific characters she creates. Gemma Doyle is intelligent, independent and a bit quirky (which is one of the things I like most about her). She is a straight shooter that doesn't pick up on social cues all that well. Her friendship with Jayne has helped smooth out some of the edges as has her renewed rela ...more
Gemma Doyle has a great job as the owner of a Sherlock Holmes bookshop connected to a tea room, Mrs. Hudson's Tea Room, owned by her best friend, Jayne Wilson. Gemma has a way of figuring out mysteries, in particular murder mysteries, much to the frustration of her boyfriend, Detective Ryan Ashburton. One night after work, Gemma and her dog, Violet, are walking in her neighborhood in West London, Massachusetts on Cape Cod when she smelled smoke coming from the West London Museum. It's always a treat to catch up with Gemma Doyle, owner of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium. Vicki Delany has given us a delightful, idiosyncratic character whose brain resembles Holmes'. She lacks empathy and social skills, though, and just doesn't understand why people don't appreciate her matter-of-fact comments. She's doing a little bit better in the fourth in this charming series, A Scandal in Scarlet.

I read the first line above and thought ‘Oh sure, Gemma.’ Then I read the second line above and thought ‘That is my girl.’ Vicki Delany’s A Scandal in Scarlet (A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery #4) is a delight. I so enjoy the characters of Gemma, Jayne, and Lead Detective Ryan Ashburton. I am even starting to like Det. Estrada! Holmes and Watson, I mean Gemma and Jayne, are at it again. The fourth installment of the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop series by Vicki Delany is a fun, intriguing mystery. The title gives homage to A Study in Scarlet, written by Conan Doyle which is the very first appearance of Holmes and Watson. Gemma and Jayne (unwillingly) are once again entangled in the latest murder on Baker Street. As the list of suspects grows, Gemma finds herself unraveling the many threads to solve the case much to the dism ...more

Gemma and Jayne are at it again in A Scandal In Scarlet.
Set in the quaint little town of West London, located on Cape Cod, this has become one of my favorite series.
As the storyline opens, the dynamic duo are hosting a tea and auction for the museum, to help with repair costs after a fire.
When someone is found dead, strangled to death, it sets off Gemma to do a little investigative snooping.
This series is very realistic and the characters are so believable, I feel like I know them all.

This was such a fun book. It had my brain thinking like Sherlock 24/7. I love the characters and how the story evolves. The setting and all of the possible players are laid out wonderfully but Vicki still keeps you guessing right until the very end. And I love the extra tid-bit after the murder is solved and the bad guy goes away. I hope to see more in this series soon!

Oh, to be on Cape Cod for a beautiful summer day! Gemma Doyle and Jayne Wilson have more business at Sherlock Holmes Bookshop and Emporium and Mrs. Hudson’s Tearoom than ever, and a challenging new mystery to solve. They are each uniquely delightful; Gemma is trying hard to be less blunt and not express her deductions as they come to her.
After a late evening at work, Gemma and Violet, Great-Uncle Arthur’s cocker spaniel, are out for a walk when Violet alerts her to fire in the magnificent Scarle
A Scandal in Scarlet is the fourth book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series and it is by far my favorite! The whodunit in this book was quite mysterious and there were many players that all had their possible motives for murder. I enjoyed the following of the clues as well as that Gemma absolutely was channeling her inner Sherlock when she donned disguises and infiltrated places that she otherwise would not have had access to. What fun! Jayne is still just as supportive of a friend as ...more

A SCANDAL IN SCARLET, the fourth book in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series by Vicki Delany, is probably my favorite in the series so far! I’ve enjoyed watching the protagonist, Gemma Doyle, grow over the course of the stories and with this new release, she seems to have come into her own. She is still overly observant, but has learned to tone down her abruptness which makes her more relatable. Ms. Delany captures the spirit of Sherlock Holmes by developing Gemma’s orderly sense of inte ...more

Gemma gets involved in her next mystery when she and Jayne offer to host an auction to raise funds for the local museum and the museum board chair Kathy Lamb who is the auctioneer is found strangled to death in the room where the auction items are being stored. Gemma doesn't really want to get involved. Her investigations have gotten in the way of her romance with Detective Ryan Ashburton before and she doesn't really have a stake in this one. None of her friends are suspects.

Gemma Doyle is back and murder victims seem to follow her no matter what. First, she witnesses a fire in the small-town museum, then at an auction to raise funds for said museum, the head of the museum board is found dead, by none other than Gemma herself. As she begins digging into the murder, she discovers yet another murder victim.

I really like Gemma's self growth in this book. She is realizing that not everyone appreciates her uncanny observations and is taking the advice of her friend, Jayn

A Scandal in Scarlet is book 4 in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mystery series and the best one yet! This one grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go. I very much enjoy any activity that takes place in Mrs Hudson’s Tea Room adjoining the bookshop, and this method of murder and how it tied to Mrs Hudson’s was clever. Multiple twists kept me guessing whodunit.

I always look forward to returning to New London and this crew of characters. Gemma is such a written character, but I really like how Ja

After reading book four, I am in for the series. It has been a solid 4 out of 5 star read for me. I enjoy the characters, town and mysteries. In book four, Gemma tries to steer away from getting involved in murder cases. When the museum chair is found dead at Mrs. Hudson's Tea Room during an auction, Gemma walks away from finding the killer. Yet, when fellow shop owner (and very ornery) Maureen is suspected, Gemma has to step in. I am glad I read this a bit

This is the first book I have ready by Vicki Delaney and in A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series. I really enjoyed this book and was disappointed when it ended, I couldn’t get enough! The books in this series are getting better and better. I’m becoming quite invested in Gemma and Ryan, Jayne and Andy (hopefully!), and the daily ins and out of the bookstore and Mrs. Hudson’s. I think Delany has really hit her stride with the writing in this one. My only complaint is that the mystery itself gets a bit muddled at the end. I’m not certain all of the elements are needed. Nevertheless, I am not only looking forward to future installments, but I am making predictions to my friend ab ...more

I adore this series. Every time Gemma channels her inner Sherlock Holmes, I can just imagine the reactions. The descriptions and conversations make me feel like I am tagging along with friends. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the end.
The story line itself was believable - who wouldn't want to help a local treasure rebuild. But that was just the springboard for the events to follow. I can't wait to sit down with a properly made cup of tea and read about Gemma's next adventure.
