Great introduction to Finite Element Method. This book is more for those who want to understand the theory and how to apply it. You don't need matlab to get value from this book... the code is very readable and could be applied in another language such as python, java, C etc...
If you're interested in setting up and solving more practical FEA problems, then you'd probably want to use a commercial FEA package like Ansys or Mechanica.
