I knew on the day of the attack that our lives were changed forever. What I didn’t know then was that I’d never see John again after he deployed. One day he was living with me, sleeping next to me, making plans with me. The next day he was gon

The Plot:

Two broken people… broken in their own twisted way.
The guy by his fiancé, the woman by her boyfriend...

Both of them loved their exes so much that their ghosting upon them ruined them… they couldn’t move on for a long time. It took him, Eric, 8 months to move on because she was a cheater but it took her, Ava, 5 long years because she never had closure as her boyfriend John was a soldier and he went one day and she never heard of him again.

I'm learning that even though I left our old life behind, I brought John with me.
Unbiased rating: rounding up to 4 stars

Unbiased review: the writing style was effortless and very engaging. If I had to complain about something it's that too much of the story was told instead of shown through dialogue.

HOWEVER, if you're interested in my biased opinion:

Petty, cranky-pants rating: rounding down, down, down

I can’t deny I was tad nervous going into this after reading the blurb, but Marie Force wrote it—this is the 37th book I’ve read by her so it’s no secret she’s one of my go to authors—and true to her style she has written a heartfelt, emotive story of learning to love and be loved again.

I remember fondly of the sequel of this book,One Year Home. It was so beautiful. I finally get my hand on Five Years Gone. I have to say, it is as almost as beautiful as One Year Gone.

Miss Force wrote such powerful story. I was heart broken and in despair when Ava had to stay limbo for 5 years not knowing what happened to her John. She is at the end of her rope when Eric comes down and barrelling down on her life. And this is their story.

At the first 40%, I can feel the agony and the lonelines

Marie Force

FIVE YEARS GONE absolutely shredded my heart! Marie Force speaks to my heart with each and every novel she has written and FIVE YEARS GONE is no exception. What a beautiful story of love, guilt and fate. All Ava has known for the past two years is John. She met him in a military bar and she has spent every day with him. She eats, breathes, and sleeps JOHN. Her life is glorious and she loves him unconditionally until one day when a terrorist attack takes him away from he

Five Years Gone is a wonderful story of love and loss.
This is the story of Ava, a young woman haunted by the loss of her first true love. On the day of a horrific attack John was deployed not knowing if they would ever see each other again.
That was five years ago.
At her sister's wedding Ava meets Eric and her heart becomes alive again. Not hearing from John for five years she must find closure so that she can move on and love again. But something is missing.
Ava's journey is inspired by tragedy

Kept me guessing all the way to the end…

Torn between two lovers may be cliché but that fits Ava’s dilemma perfectly. She has been in limbo for years, not knowing the fate of the man she loved. When waiting ‘long enough’? Never? That state of not knowing, not being able to move forward, is portrayed in heart-aching clarity as Ava struggles to live her life. She is stuck in a relationship that is no longer there, hasn’t been for a long time, but without answers, without closure, she is just that…

A new standalone from Marie Force coming in October 2018. One that packs a punch and leaves you a bit breathless and heartbroken, while at the same time happy and filled with hope and new beginnings.

This book will make you feel like you have a split personality. I went back and forth to what I thought was “right” or “best” for these characters.

This story will rip at your heart and cause you pain and then it will warm your heart and fill you with love.

Maybe that is why I liked it so much, because it evoked so many different emotions. I won’t say I always agreed with decisions made by the characters but I think possibly everything was for the best.

I’m glad I didn’t read the syno

I will start by saying, this book will have glued to every word written until the end. Now that I've said that I'm going to be honest and say this book just wasnt my cup of tea. It's a really interesting storyline. It will make your heart ache for the characters. I think mine was breaking through the entire book. (Sorry for being a Debbie downer)
Honestly it's not full of gloom. New relationships are formed and bloom, old relationships are revisited and strengthened.

When I am in the mood, military romance (if that’s a sub-genre) can really float my boat, I’ve had some profound reads in this category that are totally memorable. With this title and the idea it conjures, I was looking forward to an angsty, emotional ride and guess what, that’s exactly what I got.

What surprised me about this book is that I expected this to be about the missing soldier but really it was about Ava, the women he left behind. It was a unique situation, John had kept her in the dark

This book was truly an incredible, gripping, all-consuming TOP READ for 2018! I was so immersed in this story about loss, grief, finding love again that it was unputdownable. I was so consumed, page after page, chapter after chapter, I couldn't stop because I NEEDED to know how this story ended. This read will take you on an emotional journey that will have you crying, laughing and on the edge of your seat with hope, hope for two broken people to find that once in a lifetime love. Oh my goodness...what a heartbreaker. Bring your tissues to this one readers. This is Marie Force at her best - manipulating readers and characters' emotions with a heart wrenching plot line of a love torn apart by one man's dedication to secretly serving his country and a woman's attempt to move on with her life after hearing nothing from the man she loves for five long years. This wasn't anything like I thought it would be. I was expecting a tortured love triangle after a military hero returns from a 5 year deployment. There's definitely a bit of that, but it's really a multiple POV exposition of how Ava and ____ try for a second chance at love with a few subplots of those closest to them.

Considering this author's back list, it's obvious that she is well-loved and one I've been curious to try. Now that I have, I'm not sure what I think about her writing st

This was my first Marie Force book. I was immediately drawn to the cover indicating it was a military romance—which I’ve become a sucker for!

I went in blind, not having read the blurb. My heart went out to Ava, immediately after reading about all she’d endured in the name of hope, love, and loyalty. Not long after did I come to realize this elusive man at the heart of this story, may very well make an appearance at some point. Low and behold he did, and this suspected lo

I am left wanting; I really quite enjoyed the not knowing. Rooting for both, but mostly for Ava and everything she was put through. I always say I am not a fan of drama and this was more angst and limbo than drama.

I should start by saying that I only read this book because I wanted to get to the second one. I read the burp about John’s book and I wanted to read it. That’s about it.

That being said. I enjoyed this read. Boy oh boy I can’t even imagine the emotional minefields in something like this. My imagination painted vivid colors on the heartache surrounding this poor girl.

*3 Star Audio Review*

I got the audio for this book through the Romance Read Club audio monthly newsletter. I haven't listened to a tonne of audio books, and have been getting into them a little more lately. I listen when I'm walking for exercise, so sometimes I find myself missing bits because I'm focussing on other things around me (for safety, such as crossing roads and such).

I did like listening to this one, and the narrators were both good. It was a very interesting concept for a storyline,

It’s been a long time since I picked up a military romance so when I saw the cover for Five Years Gone I was excited to dive right in!
This is not your mother’s military romance. It’s a love triangle with a twist! There’s angst, suspense, humor and a soul-touching love story in Five Years Gone. I loved it so much I had to ask New York Times and USA Today Best Selling Author Marie Force for an interview. Not only did she agree right away, she replied with her answers the very next

I've given this an A- for narration and a B for content at AudioGals, so that's 4-and-a-bit stars in all.

Five Years Gone is the heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting story of a young woman whose life is ripped apart when the man she loves says goodbye one day and then disappears without trace. I tend to be a fan of angsty stories, so this one sounded right up my alley; and for a lot of the time it was – although a few things about the set-up didn’t quite convince, and there were a couple of tim
This one was a speed read for me. I hate angst and this was full of it. I hate the love triangle. I just wanted to get this over with and see who Ava chose. Didn't care for Eric...whiney, needy and insecure. Ava was always crying. I was rooting for John who also becomes needy and insecure. Sure, sure, everyone had their reasons for their pain. But sheesh, too much damn drama. If I'd known in advance what this book was really about I would have passed on it.

Ava Lucas didn’t lose someone in the tragedy that rocked the country five years ago, but she loved a man who never came back after he left on deployment. That was 5 years ago, but until the fifth anniversary of the attack, Ava has lived in limbo. Five years is the limit she set for herself when it became clear he wasn’t coming back. Five years and it’s time to move on.

But even though Ava moves on, meets a new man, and tries to put her past behind her, she lives in constant fear that she’ll have

Wow! What an amazing read! The heart ache that Ava and Eric felt was so real, so emotional. Seeing them heal together was amazing. The twists and turns had me on an emotional rollercoaster that I wasn’t sure I would survive. A fantastic book that I would definitely recommend!

3.25 stars. This was a pretty good book. This book is Ava's story. It will be hard to describe this book without spoiling it, so I won't say much. Ava was in a relationship with John, who was in the military and was deployed. He disappeared without a trace and she had no answers as to what happened to him. Left heartbroken, it has taken her five years to try to pick up the pieces and move on with her life. She moves across country and, while attending her sister's wedding, she meets Eric. A gut-wrenching emotional roller coaster, Five Years Gone was an incredibly moving novel about the sacrifices we make for the ones we love.

‘This fight, the fight for the love of my life, is the most important fight of all.’

I’m going to be honest. I was a bit wary going into this, knowing it was going to be super emotional and would likely have me alternately crying and yelling at the characters. (lol) But I am SO glad I read A

When you lead with your head, it's hard to hear your heart. Five Years Gone is an emotion packed tale of love lost, hearts found and secrets revealed. Marie Force appeals to vulnerability. Ava's journey is one inspired by tragedy, yet empowered by strength. There will be plenty of ugly cry moments, so make sure to keep the tissues close at hand, but there are also glimpses of the power of the human spirit.
