Had to read this for a college-level political analysis class. It was fairly useful in learning how to use the SPSS computer program. However, combined with The Essentials of Political Analysis (also written by Philip H. Pollock III) it became a VERY useful tool for learning SPSS. Both these books were required for my political analysis class.
This is the ultimate beginner's guide to STATA (much better than any book that actually touts itself as a beginner's guide to STATA). It gives step by step guides to all of the basic statistical techniques through logistic regression, and it tells you how to get around some of STATA's little glitchy issues.
