I choose this book to complete a reading challenge. I must admit I was expecting much, but boy did this prove me wrong. I loved the characters and the bonds they formed. I enjoyed the story and will enjoy reading more. The idea's in this book aren't unique but the author has a way of whisking you away. ...more

Honestly, I think if this book was about three times as long it would have been really really good. I liked the idea for the story, but it was so rushed that I never felt like the characters actually were ever given a chance to grow and have a believable relationship.

I can't rave about this book enough! I am a huge fan of Outlander and time travel romance in general, so when I heard of this story, I had high hope. It exceeded my expectations! The build up between Dianna and Devil Eye is delicious and the ties to Newfoundland pirate history were amazing! ...more

The Devil's Heart is an amazing fantasy romance. I was invested in the characters and the challenges they faced. The narrator did a wonderful job. I can't wait to see what happens next. ...more
Not the worst book I've read this month.

Good: if you wanted a time travel romance ala Outlander but didn't want the infidelity drama or blatant homophobia or unbearably lodge page count then this definitely has those vibes.

Finn and Charlie were great characters. I liked what little we got of them. I thought Gus was a good foil.

The journal was a neat foreshadowing trick that I immediately called but still enjoyed.

You can feel safe and confident telling your younger sister/mother/aunts/grandmot

The Devil’s Heart, by author Candace Osmond, is the first book in her Dark Tides series. For fans of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander books, this is a great series because it contains many similar elements, but is set in Canada and has pirates! In this book, Dianna Cobham finds herself in 1707 Newfoundland after breaking a ship-in-the-bottle in present day Newfoundland. She is taken aboard a ship captained by Devil Eyed Barrett and the adventures and attraction between the two are non-stop. I loved th ...more

I was completely surprised by this book..I was in search of a pirate romance for so long and I finally found it! I absolutely love Diannas character and who doesn’t enjoy reading about a tall handsome pirate 🏴‍☠️ 🔥. My only complaint and I mean ONLY complaint was that it wasn’t long enough! Maybe felt a bit rushed in parts, but I don’t care the book was fantastic and so unique!! I can’t wait to find out what happens in book 2!

This book was a quick read, but definitely entertaining. I enjoyed the adventure and am anticipating the next! The Devil's Heart ends abruptly at its climax, so I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. Time travel, pirates, magic, adventure, and sexy romance scenes...what more does a book need? ...more

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! Ya can't end the story like that.

What a rollercoaster of emotions. I laughed, I cried, and I came close to throwing the book in anger.

Now I need more of Diana and Henry.

Solid 3.5 Stars!

Devil's heart follows Dianna as she is swept back in time facing pirates, treasure, and adventure of a lifetime. She discovers tragedy in her ancestry and romance where she least expected it.

Time travel is always a difficult concept to write about because the repercussions that it has on the characters' future. Devil's heart is no exception. Osmond take special care not to ruin the flow of time and it is a big plot point for the story. she does not

I enjoyed this book. Finished it in a day. The characters were likable, the heroine was the perfect amount of courage without being full of fearless bravado. You know- the type of heroine you roll your eyes at because you wonder if in the authors desire to paint them as ‘courageous’ they’ve also lost all common sense? This was not the case here. She had a healthy and respectful amount of fear for this era and her situation and it made it all the more believable. The hero was a tortured

Wow! This book was really really good! I'm really impressed by the writing and the choice of words. It makes the read much more easy to imagine and enjoyable.
The setting is also an interesting choice: Newfoundland! I've never read a book set in Canada. The description of the culture, the landscape, the hospitality and the feeling of being home made the book so much better. It really makes me want to

My biggest gripe about this book is that it was too short! After finishing it I wanted to read the next one right away but I didn't have it so I had to wait! The nerve!

But seriously, Author Candace Osmond did such a great job mixing romance, time travel, and pirates! The combination made for a wonderful read filled with heart pumping romance and nail biting suspense.

The book is set in Newfoundland and as I am from there, I was able to appreciate the representation of our traditional food and cu

Although this was a decent story, the whole plot premise was illogical. Not the time travel aspects, but Dianna’s stubborn assumption that a captain who aided a witch to capture a pirate and her ship in a bottle wouldn’t possibly believe in time travel, and that Dianna would be horrified that the Cobhams have a son, when her whole entire goal was to spare their lives so her family wouldn’t cease to exist in the future. Additionally, if they already have a son, then she didn’t need to worry about ...more

Another wonderful book by Candace Osmond! The story captured my attention from the beginning.

The characters unique, each given their own backstories and personalities. I loved Dianna! She wasn't your typical Damsel-in-distress. She stood her ground even when circumstances were dangerous. And Henry, the tormented soul, who was trying to make up for his errors, played nicely off of each other. Add a quirky lot of supporting characters and one badass villain, and you've got yourself a winning cast

Maybe more like 2.5?

When I saw “Outlander meets Pirates of the Caribbean” I was like gimme! Don’t get me wrong, this was easy to read and I was enjoying it, but there was a lot of things that could have been done to make this as good as I was hoping it would be. I think if this were a bit longer, had a few more details to really put you into the setting and mood of the story, as well as maybe ending the first book in a slightly different spot (view spoiler)

I liked this book. I was missing Outlander and needed a quick little, fluffy, time travel romance. This one has pirates! 😂 I really like Henry and I think 1707 Dianna is a much cooler badass than 2002 Dianna. She’s much more confident and ballsy in the past. I liked their romance but I feel like it happened too quickly as did lots of the action/plot development in the novel. But what was I really expecting from a 220 page novel. Also, it could use more sex, if I’m being honest. 😂
However; I am in

It starts off slow but by the end you really are rooting for Dianna to have a HEA. Not to mention Henry. World building is a little lacking. I mean a woman in the 1600's wearing pants and people aren't batting an eye? Life on a ship, character development...not a lot of details that truly submerge you into this world. Then the love story aspect; there is attraction but until one night they stay up talking it is more a love at first sight thing. Something I personally don't like. It's like they t ...more

From the very first page I was hooked and truly engaged in the story. Candace does an amazing job representing even the smallest details of our beautiful Newfoundland and our silly ways.

Dianna is a character that I really really enjoyed, not only did she have spunk but she wasn't afraid to speak her mind even when he could potentially get her in trouble. The twists and turns in this novel had me turning the pages as fast as I could and wow did Devil Eyes catch my attention.

The Devil's Heart is the first book I have read by this author, Candace Osmond.
I was drawn in by the blurb...I mean pirates and time travel are my krytonite! This is an intensely enjoyable story wrought with tales of woe, murder/death, plunder, betrayal....and then the time travel adventure begins!
Great detail, picturesque with a gradual buildup of character development lending to the mystery and suspense.
I couldn't wait to see what as going to happen next.
And that ending!!! Aarrgghhh... Cliff

Wow! This is such a well-thought out time travel story. I love the characters! They are all multi-faceted, no cardboard cutouts as you find in some novels. I love the way Osmond describes her settings and the care with which she develops her characters. I think Finn is one of my favorites! He is so endearing right from the start! the only complaint I can think of is that it took me a little while to get into the book, but once I did, I was hooked! Plus, that ending! WOW....just WOW! I started reading this book this morning and couldn't put it down the rest of the day until I finished it, it's that good. It kept my interest the whole way through and when it ended, I wished I already had the second book to see what happens to the beloved characters! lol I have it on order and look forward to the continuing story. This book was simply great! I've seen it compared to "Outlander," and I see the similarity but it is truly good in its own way!
It's an easier and faster read then the Outlander books, the author dives right into it with just the right amount of back story and I loved it. It is simple and the perfect story to read if you just want to take your mind off life.

I LOVE that I know the towns and stuff the Author writes about. Its nice to hear about Alberta and Newfoundland and not New York or something
