The small-town gossip about her dead dad and drug-addicted mother has taken its toll. But when her mother is admitted to a long-term rehab facility a few hours away, Harper sees her chance for a fresh start.
A shoebox apartment above a Chinese restaurant isn't exactly the escape she dreamed of, but she makes it work. With limited funds and social life, she views her new city through a dusty old pair of binoculars.
There's no harm in looking.
Just a peek and I'll stop.
Harper finds her new pastime quickly turning into a full-fledged obsession. She begins falling for a man she doesn't know--has never met--as she watches him have sex through the window of his apartment. Daydreaming about what it would be like if she were one of his conquests.
We all reach a point when watching isn't enough--when we can no longer just be a spectator in our own life. That's when it's supposed to get good, right? When we take control and go after what we want. But what happens when it all blows up in our face and we're left with less than nothing?
Harper is twenty-four years old and works at the local library. She rents a tiny apartment with a most fabulous view: her gorgeous slutty neighbor regularly engaging in sexual activity with his partners in front of an unshaded window. Essentially, Harper’s binoculars are her best friends whenever she’s at home.
This is a very cute story with a couple sad elements , but it’s the usual sweet girl craves manwhore trope with a tablespoon of humor. This is a very tame voyeur story and doesn’t have that raunchy feel that’s evident in other voyeur/romance books. Harper has mommy issues and is insecure. The male lead, Luke SkyWalker, is just as hollow and self medicates with sex.
Liked All the references to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream was cute, as was the soup dilemma between Luke and Mr. Chan. Yes, Mr. Chan’s character was stereotypical—referring to himself in third-person and speaking in fragmented/choppy sentences:
“You study hard.” “Mr. Chan old. He the boss.” “You come Thursdays.” “No extra wontons for you.”
Still, I liked the side character, Mr. Chan. He was a generous and kind landlord to Harper. Bits of Harper’s humor?
Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. I was born. My mom hates me. I watch a guy have sex with lots of different women. I think you know about them. I also stalk him, but it’s just because I want to know him.
If I’m going to be a stalker, I’ve gotta do better than this. I am such a stalker. Oh, God. I’m a stalker!
► The epilogue was sweet and made me grin so hard! This story was charming but also very one dimensional. Yes, there was a stalker-ish type male figure who gave Harper a bit of a headache, but this was not a dark or thrilling story. It was okay and very likable.
Normally, this is not my type of romance but I get out of my comfort zone every now and then, and this book got my attention with its blurb and I was curious :)
However, it wasn't what I expected. I thought it might disturb me or hurt me a lot but frankly, it didn't make me feel a lot of feelings, neither positive nor negative.
I mean, the book failed in making me feel!
Harper has been living in a crappy apartment above a Chinese restaurant in order to be able to help her addict mother who is being treated in a rehab nearby. Her father died a long time ago and her mother has never been there for her. She has never been a good mother.
Harper works in a library and has two girl friends who support her. They arrange blind dates for her but none works.
Also, the Chinese owner of the restaurant below her flat treats her as a daughter and always protects her. He was a sweet figure.
Voyeurism aspect of the book:
Harper enjoys to do something more than anything:
When she comes back from work, she likes to watch the big city through her binoculars. One day she sees a man in his flat's front window, having sex with a woman. She cannot not watch him. She is mesmerized by his beauty.
He quickly becomes her obsession and she even refuses her friends’ offers to go somewhere and she directly comes home and starts to watch his house.
Every time a different woman comes. He doesn’t take them to his bedroom. They only do it at the window and she watches them. This voyeurism helps her to get off, as well. She wishes she could be one of them but these women look so perfect to her that she believes he would never look at her twice in real life.
Once she sees him cry at his window and she wonders what his sorrows are. She even stalks him when she sees he gets out of his house.
One day, in real life, Harper meets this man she watches and stalks at a very unexpected place and her dreams crash with reality. Luke is an unexpected person in real life.
Luke also shows an interest in Harper and they go out a few times. But then, seeing how wrong it is, he retreats. He says he cannot do a relationship with her and she deserves someone better than him. He has his own valid reasons. He pushes her away and he does it cruelly, unfortunately, by making her watch him with a woman at his window.
This makes a turning point in Harper’s life. Watching him having sex with a woman after she met him and got close to him hurts her deeply. She makes drastic changes in her life. She tries to forget him and make a new life.
On the other hand, Luke cannot live without her and he starts to go to therapy to be the man she deserves.
Their second attempt at a relationship develops slowly and it feels more real.
There are lots of family issues and problems in their pasts and present that they have to deal with. These things take a great deal of the book. It sometimes gets a bit depressive.
This is not a hot book!
The intimacy between Luke & Harper comes only towards the very end of the book and it is not like the ones she watched, it is soft and sensual love-making.
I am saying this because if you need a hot or steamy book, this is not it! Only the voyeurism parts are naturally hot but it is not between the hero & the heroine so I am not counting them at all.
The book is not safe, by all means, because of the things she watched before and after they met, so this is not a book for the safety gang.
I found the plot and the idea behind it interesting and their backstory was good. The way they click in real life because of how similar they in fact are also made sense.
So why 3 stars but not more?
Well, it is because of its writing. It didn’t make me feel. I didn’t feel their connection.
When I thought of it, it made sense but I couldn’t feel it and I blame the writing for it.
Up until Chapter 12, only Harper tells the story. Only after 40% of the book, we get into the mind and heart of the hero, Luke. At that point, the book starts to be told by dual point of view.
This way of writing made me disconnected with the hero for a long while. He was just a figure, f*cking different women at his window.
And because of not having his point of view then, I never understood what he felt or why he lived the way he lived.
Also, I don't know what he thought when he first saw Harper. I don’t know what he felt when they went for a coffee or lunch or dinner. And when his point of view started, I had already lost my interest in the book.
In addition to this issue, the writing, (the use of language etc) is a bit simple and that also made the effect of everything small. With a captivating writing style, the same story would have been much more impressive for me. Now, it was just an OK read… Something readable… That’s all.
Some quotes from the book:
For a moment, his eyes gaze out the window, and I freeze, tensing up. I know he can’t see me. I know that, but the smirk that forms on his lips makes me think he hopes someone sees them. He wants someone to see them. He gets off knowing it’s a possibility. That thought makes my heart beat even faster, and I swallow hard.
I wanted this. I wanted a chance to know him—his name, his voice, his touch—but now that I have it, I don’t know what to do with it.
As much as I want to forget everything that happened before, I don’t want to forget that...him. Slowly, the mysterious man from the window is morphing into this new Luke who is tangible and real.
When authors say, "this book is totally different" - well, sometimes you think "yeah, right!". But JK was not kidding about this one!
This book is hot, suspenseful, emotional, and deep. And you will stay up until 2:30 a.m. because you can't put it down.
Harper has had a rough life. Thankfully she has wonderful friends. Layla mothers her. Mia tells it like it is. And Mr. Chan, her landlord, well, you will LOVE him just the way he loves her. She has some stalkerish tendencies which may have freaked me out a bit at first, but as it went on I got over that and just wanted to hug her.
Luke is not without his own issues. He puts on a good front (and a good back, hee hee, see what I did there!) and tries to cover them over, well, basically with sex. But they still exist no matter how hard he tries to ignore them.
JK did an excellent job of developing both these characters and you will fall in love with both of them, despite their flaws. Or maybe because of them.
The circumstances that lead them together are not the best, and at times you wonder if this can ever work out. And do they? Well, I can't tell you that!! You will have to read the book to find out. Get yourself some Chinese food, ice cream, and binoculars and settle in for quite a ride! This book does not disappoint!!
Hmmm I am not too fond of this book to be honest. The writing style and story are good but I just didn't feel anything for the main characters. Harper was kind of annoying and Luke well I don't know. They both were suffering I get that but for me it is just not entertaining if the couple needs to figure out the whole book if the want to be together or not.

Oh....My....Goodness!!!! This book was something totally different from Jiffy Kate. Watch and See had me sitting on the edge of my seat and chewing off my fingernails while wanting to scream I cannot believe that just happened. Harper has very little family, and that she does have is is completely dysfunctional. Yet, she has a heart of gold. She goes on to make some rather interesting choices when it comes to her free time, which may make you question her stability, but in the end it leads her to where she needs to be and ultimately to her greatest happiness. This book evoked so many emotions in me, including shock, sadness, and hope. And can I just say Mr. Chan is awesome!!!! I wish I had my very own Mr. Chan. I loved that this book was unique and with a very dramatic story line. It was 100% engaging. I absolutely adore Jiffy Kate's books and this was no exception!!! Another 5 star, must-have read.
I love how a book stays with you even after a good night's sleep and you wake up still thinking about the same book. y'all this new book by Jiffy Kate is everything. it's intriguing, it's emotional, its raw!
You meet two characters that have so much hurt, sorrow, and have been through so much that how can they not have a chemistry that doesn't sizzle. They have so much to fight against and for and it keeps the page turning that you realize it's 3 am and you must get sleep but you don't want to stop! I didn't want this book to end. I wanted it to keep going and going.
*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*
This is my first book by Jiffy Kate and I would be interested in reading more from them... maybe a different setting/situation.
When I started this book, I was so excited. It started with a bang..literally. It was intriguing and I couldn’t wait to keep going. Then the actually story started and I was really let down. I wasn’t too interested until about 35 or 40%, when we get to see Luke’s side for the first time. That’s what really kept me going. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if Luke’s POV started in the beginning. I understand why they wanted to bring him in but I enjoyed seeing his POV a bit more than hers during the “meat” of the book. Luke was the reason I gave this 3 stars. Without his POV, I probably would’ve given lower.
The Wyatt situation? It just stopped completely? What?! How anticlimactic. Anton? Seriously? That was it? Very disappointing.
Also, I did not like the whole Mr. Chan epilogue... I liked him in the story but I thought the epilogue was a little unnecessary. I would’ve rather seen more of the future from Luke’s eyes.
Fascinating and intriguing, Watch and See sucks you from page one and never lets you go.
This isn't the sweet southern romance we expect from Jiffy Kate and that is what makes it so fantastic. Darker and angst driven, Watch and See will keep you on your toes while shifting in your seat because it is so damn sexy!
This was a beautiful book. I loved the first half and how both characters are portrayed. Luke was pretty awesome. Yes he has his issues, but I still swooned at the start and still loved him hard by the end.
OH Harper..... I really loved her character. She was complex but it was so deep and heart breaking. I’ve had to deal with some of the things she has, so I was able to really connect with who she was and that made the story really work for me.
The story as a whole was deep and I can tell it was thoroughly planned out. The author duo really did an amazing job at doing these characters justice and making me feel when it came to the twists.
I wanted to give it 5 stars but I’m struggling because there were some parts of the story I struggled with. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil the story, but they weren’t huge and I felt they caused unnecessary drama to the plot line when there was enough and it could have been left out. Overall it was a good book and I really liked it. 4 stars #2OCCJD
This story starts off with our heroine Harper who's not had the easiest life, her moms a junkie in recovery for oh the hundredth time, she's cruel and hurts Harper more often then not, but Harper truly just wants her love which is why she moved closer to her moms rehab facility and changed her life to accommodate Sadie her mother yet again. Now Harper has a fetish of looking through binoculars at the gorgeous neighbors life, and he seems, to enjoy the attention because he always seems in front of that open window. She becomes a bit stalkerish to this man, shes never met.
I don't want to honestly say much but we do finally get introduced to this mystery man. But he's a dilemma in himself and after he's introduced Luke Walker becomes even more intertwined in Harpers life, he's a puzzle himself.
This story is a story about growing, and forgivness in it's core. It's about learning how we all make mistakes we all have things in our past and present that hurts us and makes life challenging and heartbreaking. But hope is very prominent in this story as well, the hope that we are worthy of love and rising above the things that we cannot change and excepting that life is hard but can be beautiful too.
I give this story 4 stars I was surprised by how everything unfolded in time and how deeply we delved into the characters challenges and how they grew as people by themselves and together. I enjoyed how everything came together and progressed. All in all I truly enjoyed this journey and would read other things this author has already published as well as her earlier work. Also the cover is gorgeous I enjoy the eye candy;)
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Harper uprooted her life to move to be closer to her mother while she's in rehab. Her life is basically going to work and being at home. One day a week she goes to see her mother, but that relationship is mostly obligation. The only thing that gives Harper a thrill is the watching. She watches across the way, through a window at all the things this beautiful man does and with whom.
When Harper sees the object of her affection out in the real world she begins to follow him. It's all a little crazy. She actually starts talking to him and finds that he's not just beautiful but intelligent and funny. Their friendship can't continue though, so they stop talking, she moves in with her friend and his husband and they don't see each other for a while.
Look I could tell you all the things about this book, I could tell you everything, but I'd ruin the book. No one wants that to happen!! This book is sexy from the get-go, and I'm not lying. Like page two! It's a awesome book that I couldn't put down. So, if you like sexy awesome books (and why wouldn't you?) grab this one and dive in. Make sure you have a pint of Ben and Jerry's to cool you down 😊!!!
This is my first book by Jeffy Kate and I was so surprised by it that I want to dive right into another one! I thought with the name Watch and See I would be reading a story about voyeurism and some dirty sex, but instead what I got was an emotional story.
Harper is a young woman trying to live on her own and deal with her drug addict mother that is now in a 6-month program. Harper has such a big heart that even though her mother treats her like crap she still goes every Saturday and visits. But Harper does have one little secret. She watches a man across the way have sex in his living room. He has no idea that Harper is looking on, and he doesn't care that anyone is looking on.
Luke has his own issues, this is why he has sex with women in his living room. He never takes them to his bedroom and never closes the blinds. He doesn't care if people can see, not that he pays any attention. But when Harper walks in for a family counseling session with her mother he finds he wants to get to know her. He has no idea that she already knows him.
These two have a friendly relationship until he finds out. I loved how each character takes a step back then comes together again. I loved all of these characters and Mr. Chan is wonderful! I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review.
There are not enough words to describe the awesomeness of this book. I won an ARC to read. But I know as soon as it hit the Kindle shelves, I don't care the price, I'm buying it. I absolutely loved this book. It was right on time for me. I read so fast. I couldn't stop. I love the epilogue it was just awesome. It was my first book by these authors, I met them at an author event so I was nervous about my first read. I can't understand why I had any apprehension. The writing of this story left me wanting for more. So I headed to Amazon to one-click everything else they wrote.
Ok, this story hit you in your feels. I loved that the characters felt real. I totally related to Harper. Then when it switched to Luke's POV....... Oooh.... just ooooh. I don't want to go into any details. I'm better at talking my feelings.
I don't know why you ladies started writing but this... this.... this.... book right here must have been the reason. Thank you for writing this. I will probably reread this several times.
Watch and See is one of those books that take you on a journey. Sometimes sordid, sometimes heartbreaking, shocking, devastating, painful… But always gripping and exciting. The depth of character that the duo Jiffy Kate has brought out; the richness and nuance they bring to life is incredible. This book has it all, but I’m not going to give any of it away here. Suffice to say that this is one of my top 5 favorite reads so far this year. I could not put it down and I’m willing to wager you won’t be able to either. Watch and See.
Jiffy Kate did something different and did it sooooo amazing! This was intense and suspenseful and I absolutely loved it! My heart broke for Harper and her situation but thankful for good close friends and a no-nonsense landlord (I loved Mr. Chan!) Her small apartment contained binoculars which let her have a glimpse into her hot and mysterious man across the street. Luke has his own past and it’s dark and sad, both these characters are broken and their chemistry together was undeniable. They go through quite a few hurdles and I was on the edge of my seat until the very end. Jiffy Kate really turned their writing up a notch and rocked it!
Even after reading the blurb on the back of this book, I still wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book. Jiffy Kate are insta-buy authors for me, and I always love their books, even when I go in blind or unsure. I tend to expect the sweet southern romance from JIffy Kate, and found that it was actually refreshing to see something completely different come from two of the writers I’ve come to admire a lot in the last couple of years. These ladies have written some damn good stories, and this one is no different. It’s actually a top read of 2018, and it’s only March.
Luke Walker is a flawed, but sexy man who has an unexpected job for a even more unexpected reason - this appealed to me so much. I love a man that’s a tad tortured and broken. I like that he wasn’t this perfect specimen of a human, just looking to take advantage of our heroine.
Harper was a heroine I wasn’t sure I could get behind, this book starts in a way that I never thought would turn around to be enjoyable for me… and I was completely wrong. I enjoyed seeing Harper grow, and learn, and come into her own in this story. She is a tad insecure because of her family situation, and attaches herself to the idea of this man in the condo across from her....
I loved how perceptions changed so much for us as a reader, but in a believable way.
I also liked how this story encompassed so much more than what it seemed to at the start. When I started this one, I wasn’t sure what would come of these characters, or what my review would look like. Now I can’t get it off my mind, I will be thinking about this book for months.
Also, I need to mention that I need a Mr. Chan in my life! He was just so precious! I just adored him! He’s probably my most favorite secondary character from a contemporary romance like EVER!
Mesmerizing. Intense. Hot. Deep. Emotional. This book will hook from the very first page. You will not be able to put it down. You will also be stopping at the store to buy ice cream. You will also want to eat Chinese food. This book is very different from the typical Jiffy Kate book. It has sweet elements as well with how Mr. Chan looks out for Harper. How he treats Luke. Such a fantastic book!
Like Mr. Chan’s soup, this book is hot! You will not be able to put it down.
Another wonderful read from Jiffy Kate! It takes you through a gambit of emotion from empathy, sadness, happiness, and everything in between.
Harper’s life hasn’t been easy and when she discovers Luke it doesn’t get any easier. You’ll feel yourself agreeing with some of her choices and arguing with her about others. As Luke finally opens up your heart goes out to him. The story of Harper and Luke, their personal ups and downs, and their road to one another isn’t all sunshine and roses which makes it that much more realistic.
Watch and See was such an intriguing story. The start of Harper story was evocative and oh so juicy that I could not stop reading. While at times her obsession felt wrong and almost cringe-worthy, it also felt so real and understandable.Seeing the way both Harper and Luke were able to grow ar characters really was the best part of the story. I also loved the sprinkling in of Luke's point of view, even though I would have loved to have more of him. Overall, I loved just about everything about Watch and See, from the hot window sex to the obsession of a lonely woman and the secrets of a heartbroken man.
I’m familiar with the author team of Jiffy Kate, mainly thanks to my involvement with Enchanted Publications. Earlier this year, I read ‘The Other One’ while traveling cross-country and was won over by the southern charm of the authors and the sweetness of the novel. So, when I had the opportunity to read their new release, I eagerly said yes.
Watch and See was not the novel I was expecting from Jiffy Kate. In one simple sentence, this was the sexiest book I’d read in some time. I devoured this story, reading it in practically one sitting. I found myself sucked in by the first page and I was sad to reach the end. Watch and See is one of those books I wished would just keep on going. And going. And going.
The plot centers on Harper Evans, a young woman who is just barely making ends meet. She has put her life on hold to offer moral support to her mother, who is battling drug addiction and has checked into a rehabilitation center. In order to be close to her mom, Harper rents a small apartment above a Chinese restaurant, where she discovers an abandoned pair of binoculars.
With little money to spend and even less to keep her occupied while she spends her nights alone, Harper decides to take in the view of her city surroundings through the old pair of lenses. When Harper discovers the gorgeous man living in a nearby apartment, having sex with different women in front of his own window, her new hobby turns into an erotic obsession. When Harper can’t stop thinking about the mysterious and passionate stranger, she attempts to convert her deepest fantasy into a full-fledged reality.
This is the point where Watch and See could have traveled down a predictable path, but instead the book is respectful of both its characters and the audience observing them. The story takes an enthralling turn that had me experiencing every possible emotion – excitement, shame, happiness, anger, love, and sadness. This is the perfect novel if you’re in the mood for something a bit taboo – think of Rear Window, with more sex and less murder. And please trust me when I say you’ll never look at a pair of sweat pants in quite the same way again.
Without a doubt, Watch and See is a strong contender for my Top Read of 2018. Five enthusiastic and smoldering stars!
It grabbed me from the first moment and I flew through it. There are some dark and serious tones and some wonderful delicious angst that the characters work through (my favorite kind of novel).
It’s fast-paced but not rushed. Harper is almost truly a loner and you feel for her as the book opens and she’s spying on a neighbor. Is it okay? Hmmmm. It’s HOT, that’s for sure. The text does a good job of putting some questions out there for you to ask, yet keeps it real as each person makes mistakes - although it is painful to watch *cringes remembering*. It’s everyone’s fantasy meets some harsh elements of reality and two people that manage to find each other.
JiffyKate is going to blow your mind with this book, it’s very different from their other books yet still has the heart and soul you should expect from them. This book had me yelling “No! No! No! Don’t do it!” To “Yes! Yes! Yes!” And saying quite a few times “Oh My God!”
Harper is a very sweet young woman who has moved to the big city to be closer to her recovering addict of a mother. She finds a small apartment above the Chinese restaurant with a very interesting owner who in his own way cares. Inside the apartment she finds a book written in Chinese and a pair of binoculars... “Just one look then I’ll stop.”
Luke is a mystery that I want to solve! The sexy man in the window in low slung sweatpants or less. Who knows how to please a woman and make a show of it. Who is he, why does he do this, and why where someone could see?
How far would you go to be with the one you see yourself with?
Holy crap!! Jiffy Kate seems to always know what I need before even I know it!! Whether I’m dealing with a break up and moving somewhere new or wasting my time with a guy I don’t have a real connection with. I always seem to read the right book as I’m looking for similar answer myself. This book while different is just as amazing as the rest. I wish there was a way I could sign up to get my own Luke. Also where can I sign up to get a Mr. Chan? Or a Layla and Mia? Everyone needs people like them. Jiffy Kate is my dealer and I’m the junkie. I just can’t ever get enough of living in the worlds they create. ❤️
When I was given the opportunity to read this book I had no idea what I was in for. This is my first book written by JK and after this one I'll be reading some more! JK definitely made something different when writing this book; its hot, steamy, emotional, and has some good laughs (Mr. Chan is my favorite character lets be honest ;) ) it hits on all topics from drug abuse and depression to friendship, love and understanding. If you're looking for an easy read thats different check this book out.
Jiffy Kate has written another 5 star book for all us to read. This is not their typical book that we are used to reading from them but they still deliver the heart wrenching, angsty, love story that we love! This book has two characters that are easy to fall in love with even with their issues and in my opinion that is what makes them more relatable and the story flow so easily. So be ready to Watch & See Luke and Harper and their relationship over the course of this well written book that you won't be able to put down until the end.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This is my first book I've read of this author and all I can say is, more please. I fell in love with Harper and Luke. She only knew him as the man who she watches have sex through her binoculars. He has no clue she exists. That's until she realizes he's her mother's therapist. But what happens when she tells him everything? Did she lose him forever? Please, if you get the chance read this book, you won't be disappointed. I'm looking forward to more of their books❤❤
Confession time: This is my first Jiffy Kate novel. I feel like a heel because I haven't gotten to read anything else by them. BUT. Whoa, boy. This book *fans self* *take a deep breath* *fans self again*
This book is full of a version of suspense I didn't really know existed. I was tied up in knots, relieved, tied up in knots, relieved, repeat. Oh My God. It was so amazing. I haven't read a book that literally had me wanting to skip ahead like this one has in far too long.
Luke. Harper. Mr. Chan. These characters have quickly catapulted to the top of my list for this year.
It's steamy from the start, packed full of content and angst. This story is different from anything I've ever read before. I loved Mr. Chan and everything he symbolized for Harper. I loved the dedication of Harper's friends. I could definitely relate to dating "normal" people after growing up with crazy people. Thank you to Jiffy Kate for letting me read and review!
Wow....I don’t think I’ve ever read a book quiet like this. There were so many emotions I can’t even describe them all. At 30% I thought the book was going to be over, but it just began. I love how the beginning of the book was mainly just thoughts, no talking. Which I don’t normally like but it felt so right in this book. I highly recommend reading this book!!!
What a great book!!!!!!! It was totally not what I expected. A great slow burn. I was totally invested in these characters. This is one of those books that book you fast and you can't stop reading definitely get this when it releases
