Passing Reflections Volume III: Surviving Suicide Loss Through Mindfulness

Rate this book
Passing Reflections is the narrative of discovery over the first two years after a son's suicide. The revised and expanded, Surviving Suicide Loss Through Mindfulness, builds upon the author's journey. These poems are meant to help other suicide survivors see that they are not alone. It is also meant to help those who would be of service to survivors begin to fathom what it is to suffer traumatic loss. The author's greatest hope is to help people learn how to transform suffering into healing, holding all with compassion.

What I liked most about this book was the vulnerability that Kristen shares with her readers. She truly shares her experience not only through direct prose, but through poems which are sometimes a beautiful compilation of thoughts, and sometimes insightful advice not to be taken lightly.

I've never lost someone to suicide, but this book helped me understand how to approach others who have survived loss, and as adults we come across people we love who experience such losses. It is important to know how to help and support them, other than saying "are you ok?" (Which will never get us the sander we want, and will just make the grieving person struggle).

I fully recommend this book to everyone, it's an eye opening journey of the kind we don't often get shared with us. I might've read many of her poems over three times, might go over the entire book again just to mark the thoughts I definitely want to keep with me always.
