About the author

After writing indie comics (such as the ensemble teen-drama The Waiting Place) for six years, Sean got his big break writing an issue of The Incredible Hulk for Marvel Comics in 2001. Since then, Sean has written hundreds of comics for Marvel, DC Comics and other publishers, including notable runs on Sentinel, Inhumans, Mystique, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, Gravity, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, Birds of Prey and Teen Titans.

Best known for delivering introspective, character-driven work, Sean also wrote several weeks of the Funky Winkerbean syndicated comic strip, much of which has been reprinted in the celebrated collection, Lisa's story: the other shoe.

In 2005, Sean won the Eisner Award for Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition.

Sean continues to write comic books; he also writes for the videogame and animation industries.

The second half of this anime inspired book is sooooo much better than the first half, as the main protagonist is in jeopardy throughout of being found out for being anything but a hero. Much tighter scripting and less exposition sees a more fluid and entertaining tale that leaves you guessing at the end... and wanting more! An improving 5 out of 12 Two Stars from me :)

Continuing the x-citing x-read of 2017

This series continues to be a bit of a rip-off of The Iron Giant (which it actually references in this one, so it’s obviously intentional…) but in a really good way. It feels a bit like an 80s movie in the way that it treats its characters and the school plot and there’s a lot of heart in the story.

This volume develops Juston a little bit more and moves the Sentinel Program plot forward quite a bit There are a few surprises along the way and overall it is a really enjoyable read. I may slightly prefer the first volume, but I am still very much interested in where Juston’s story will lead. I do wish that there had been a little bit more interaction with his friends here. They seemed more interesting in the first volume but were almost left as window dressing in this chapter…

Juston has used his pet sentinel to get populr, only it backfired and people have lost their sanity. Juston is determined to make up for it by helping people. This is a really good story, wih likeable characters, you actually care what happens to them. A very good read.

Continua il nostro "Il gigante di ferro" in salsa Marvel. E finisce qui (per ora), dato che la serie fu cancellata, terminando con il dodicesimo numero.
Nonostante ciò, la seconda metà della serie riesce ad offrire una lettura interessante, con Juston che cerca di fare i conti con la sua coscienza, dopo aver usato la Sentinella da lui riparata in maniera egoistica.
(Vabbè dai, è un ragazzino: avessi avuto io un robot da combattimento alla sua età, avrei mosso guerra al Vaticano, come minimo.)
Cercando di rimediare, sempre all'insaputa di tutti, Juston cercherà di usare la Sentinella per compiere delle buone azioni. Peccato però che alcuni membri della Commissione per gli affari superumani stiano investigando sulle attività del robot che lui ha riparato, a cui sembrano particolarmente interessati.

I've been listening to the Awesomed by Comics podcast, which inspired me to borrow this from the library. I'm hoping it doesn't matter that I didn't read Volume One.
