I've struggle with what to say about this great story. This is a story about redemption, about finding a family, about love, about peace, about well overcoming............The characters are well written, realistic, and engaging. The setting, an island off of Texas, will make you want to visit the Texas coast and find this island! The story is easy to read and follow, even though this is part of a series you can easily read it as a stand alone title. You will find yourself wanting to know more ab ...more

Mercedes has a long history of taking care of the people in her life – her mother, her sister, her ailing grandmother and the women who come to the shelter where she volunteers. When a pregnant teenager, Gemma, comes to the full shelter, Mercedes offers a bed at her home with her grandmother and cats, but Gemma is allergic to cats. The only option is to try to convince Gemma's step-brother, Scott, to let Gemma stay with him. You would think, being a paramedic and in the business of helping peopl ...more

Afterburn is book 5 in the Island Fire Books series, but it can absolutely be read as a stand alone. This story had that touch of Beauty and the Beast going for it - which really worked with these characters.

Scott's got one thing on his mind, finishing his time and getting off the island - he's worn down by his daily work as an EMT, he's still hurt over an incident that left him estranged from his family and with no one around to keep him there, he's looking forward to a new life elsewhere. But

I always enjoy Ms Knupp’s writing, but this wasn’t my favourite story. Mercedes and Scott were both people who had been damaged by events in their pasts. The way they dealt with them was vastly different. Although I understand the reason that Scott was so grumpy and negative, I really didn’t like the way he treated Mercedes. We see glimpses of the man he could be, but they are few and far between. He thinks to himself that he has treated her badly and that he’s a coward, etc. but he doesn’t do a ...more

I read one book in this series, and fell in love not only with the series, but with the writings of this talented author.
Afterburn, is just as wonderful as the previous stories.
This one belongs to EMT Scott Pataki and Mercedes Stone, a social media expert that volunteers at a women’s shelter and takes care of her incapacitated grandmother. While Mercedes is all about helping those in need and looking at the positive side of things, Scott lives more in a world of losses, and internal turmoil.

Afterburn by Amy Knupp is a 4.5 star read.
Scott Pataki is an EMT but he’s on a countdown until he leaves his job and the island he lives on for a new adventure. Scott is holding on to a lot of anger from his past and it’s making him really miserable, when out of the blue the half sister he wants nothing to do with shows up at his door pregnant with nowhere to go looking for somewhere to stay he turns her away, but she has someone looking out for her that won’t let Scott say no.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a wonderful addition to this series. The characters were well developed and oh so believable. My heart ached for Scott and his family history. He comes off as cold and unfeeling and it is a heart-wrenching piece of history is the cause of it. Mercedes has a tragic past as well but she turns into a loving and caring person who embraces her granny. She struggles with her relationship with her sister and their r

Burned out paramedic and the social work that changes his mind!

Paramedic Scott Pataki is frustrated and burnt out with his job when his half-sister Gemma Lawrence shows up on the island pregnant and kicked out of the house by her mother. Scott refuses to take her in and attempts to sends her back to her mother’s house. Instead of going home Gemma goes to the women’s shelter and the social worker attempts to intercede with her brother. Mercedes Stone helps to convince Scott that he is the only op

Loved it! This is the first book I’ve read by Amy Knupp and it won’t be my last! Scott and Mercedes are strangers thrown together by their relationship with Scott’s half sister Gemma. Gemma is a 17 year old pregnant girl who has been thrown out by her mother. Scott, who is done with his career as an EMT, is on the short list at work and will be leaving in a month for a new job on a cruise ship. He is not the accepting big brother who would even consider helping Gemma. With much persuasion Merced ...more

This is book five in the Island Fire Series and is the story of Mercedes, Scott and his half sister Gemma. Scott had been estranged from his family for years and had no interest in getting reconnected. He's burned out from his paramedic job and only wants to get a job on a cruise ship teaching scuba diving. He is not very friendly and has few friends so there's nothing holding him back. That is until Mercedes seeks him out asking him to help his homeless, pregnant sister. They are opposites but ...more

While I've enjoyed all of the books in this series, this is my favorite so far. This story drew me in from the start and I couldn't stop reading.

They say there is someone for everybody. At the start of the book it was hard to believe that Scott would be able to find that someone given his attitude about his current job as an EMT and his not wanting to have anything to do with his family. Then along came Mercedes who got to know Scott due to her trying to help out Scott's half sister Gemma and l

I have not has the pleasure of reading anything by Amy Knupp before this book and I am so excited to have found her now. I totally enjoy this emotional book and realistic story of overcoming your past to open your heart for a loving future. As this is book 5 of the series and the first one I have read this is a stand-alone as well as a series as there are many characters in this book that have their own books in the start of this series. I have received an ARC copy of this book and I have decide ...more

Scott is burned out and ready to leave his paramedic job, the Island, and his current life behind. What Scott doesn't expect after a hard 24 hours of work is to meet his teenage half-sister, Gemma. Scott just wants her out of his life. Mercedes, a volunteer at the Women's shelter, needs to help Gemma find a place to safely finish her pregnancy. All she has to do is convince Scott to open his home. I was given a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review.

I received a free copy of Afterburn formerly known as Island haven by Amy Knupp and this review was given freely.
EMT and Scuba diver instructor Scott connects with women's shelter volunteer and social media expert Mercedes when she unites Scott with his pregnant half sister. This novel is a roller coaster of emotions as both Scott and Mercedes help each other through family situations, find inner peace, learn to trust other people and learn to express their love for each other. A tension

This is the first book I have read by the author. Loved her writing style as it pulled me right into the book from the start. This is a story about forgiveness, hope and perspective. The characters are well developed as they reveal their roller coaster of emotions as they help each other through family situations, find inner peace, learn to trust other people and learn to express their love for each other. A tension filled romance with a heartwarming ending. I would definitely recommend this boo ...more

I was given an advance reader copy for an honest review. This is a story about forgiveness, hope, and perspective and how it can change the outcome of your life. I won't write about the story itself because I don't want to give anything away. I will say that I loved this book so much that I will be spending my limited income (on a fixed income) on the entire series. It's gotten me hooked and want to learn more about the island!!!

I really enjoyed this new story from Amy Knupp. The characters were well developed. I can never put down the Hale Street or Island Fire books. I devour them with as few interruptions as possible. Many old fears and hurts had to be overcome if this couple were going to find their HEA. The story works well as a stand alone but I love reading in order and seeing old friends have their stories updated. I highly recommend Afterburn.

This book is an emotional journey into the world of a burned out EMT, that has his unmet pregnant half sister show up on his door looking for help. Through Gemma, he meets Mercedes, who runs the local shelter, and they embark on a journey into self discovery, and family connection. A wonderful story to loose yourself into for a read. Definitely recommend this one.

Scott just said goodbye and left

Mercedes had just said I love you and he walked away. She cried for what seemed like hours, then went on a long horse ride to get him out of her system.
Till he found her and told her she was stuck with him...
