Rusty Walker has spent her entire life trying to earn her tough, ranching father’s respect and approval by learning the business inside and out. But now her uncompromising parent has decreed she must marry if she wants to inherit. Worse, her husband has to be someone who can help her run the business. As if she needs it!
Williams Hill kissed Rusty in a bar in an act of temporary insanity, and lost his heart to her on the spot. Despite the complications to his own rodeo stock business, he agrees to marry the feisty red-head, hoping to woo her once they’re hitched. But she only views him with suspicion and resentment.
Can this soft-spoken Texas cowboy convince his proud wife, who’s never known unconditional love, that she is everything he wants?
Multi-award-winning author, Kadie Scott, writes steamy romantic comedies and western romance. She loves plots that move hot and fast, feisty heroines with sass, heroes with heart, a dash of snark, and oodles of HEAs! Other titles include wife, mother, Star Wars geek, ex-competitive skydiver, spreadsheet lover, eMBA, organizational guru, Texan, Aggie, and chocoholic.
Kadie attempted to find a practical career related to her favorite pastime by earning a degree in English Rhetoric (Technical Writing) and an MBA. However, she swiftly discovered that writing without imagination is not nearly as fun as writing with it.
Kadie currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her own swoon-worthy hero, their angelic (mostly) kids, who are growing up way too fast, and 2 adorable fur babies.
She spent her entire life trying to please her hard-boiled and demanding father. Rusty could handle a horse, handle a ranch and knew the business side of ranching and rodeos inside and out. When her father dropped the bombshell that she could only inherit the Walker Empire was to marry a suitable man.
Williams Hill is a rodeo cowboy, on the circuit as much as home, always looking for that next win, that next great thrill. Definitely NOT husband material, but, as she discovers, the man does have a lot going for him, great kisser, handsome, and he really is a dusty knight with chaps for armor. But still, to offer to marry Rusty as a purely business arrangement so she could inherit her family’s business? Could she trust him or is there more than meets the eye to his plan?
Who knew Will was actually falling in love with the feisty redhead? And why would Rusty trust him to be telling the truth? No one wants something for nothing, her father taught her that…
Kadie Scott’s RESISTING THE RANCHER is sweet romance, if you like to see feathers ruffled and one headstrong woman fight with all of her might NOT to admit she, too is falling in love.
From the rush of the barrel racing to the hush of two people stumbling along in a hoax of their own making, it looks like there is potential to ride off into the sunset together, if they don’t kill each other, first!
Definitely a fun read with just the right amount of spice, leather and, of course, the Hill family antics! Pure entertainment joy that will leave readers smiling!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Kadie Scott!

This was a great romance read. I don’t often read romance books that involve ranchers. I loved the strong heroine and the guy she meets in this book. If you’re looking for a great romance this is the book for you!
I am officially a new fan of Kadie Scott! This was my first time reading anything by her and I LOVED it. This novel gripped me and held me in its grasp till the very last page. Now since this was my first book from Kadie, I haven’t read the first in The Hills of Texas Series, Saving the Sheriff. It didn’t affect my enjoyment of this one, and it can be read as a standalone. With that said I will be going back and reading book one just as soon as I finish this review! I am sure you will want to as well, so maybe grab both of them now?
Rusty Walker, love her, has spent the majority of her life trying to win the approval of her hard-headed, stubborn, and unimpressive, father. Rusty has the workings of the family ranch down to an art. She can care for the horses, and run the business side just as well as the other. She is hoping that her good skills will help her with impressing her father into letting her run the family empire, the Walker Empire. Then her dad has a rude awakening for her… She must marry a man he approves of to gain the reins of the family empire.
And then we meet the handsome rodeo cowboy, Williams Hill. This man has a love for everything rodeo, and is always on the road to find that next rodeo and contest to win. He would not fit the mold of husband material one bit. But… a business proposition comes from Will. He is offering her the opportunity to marrying him. Can this be too good to be true? Is there really no strings?
The title of this novel was very fitting. These two are some stubborn characters. I found myself yelling at them several times, and huffing with frustration. I saw what they could be long before we finished this novel, and it was quite the journey to get from the beginning to the end. It was worth it though, and I too fell in love with Rusty and Will. Can they stop fighting the love in the air? I can’t wait to see what will come next from Kadie Scott and in her Hills of Texas series!
When her father gives her an ultimatum to do with her future, Rusty Walker realizes it’s time to take control on her life. Moving out and taking a job with Williams ‘Will’ Hill is the perfect opportunity for her to work out what she wants. However, she never imagined Will would make her an offer she can’t refuse in order to help them both get what they want. The exchange being that Rusty will inherit her family ranch for helping Will make his new business venture a success. Yet, the more time Rusty and Will spend together, the more the lines begin to blur with their arrangement and Will finds himself wanting to make something more of their marriage of convenience. Will he be able to convince Rusty to give him a chance for real or will she walk away from her chance at happiness because she’s afraid of getting hurt? Read More
Second book in the series where we meet the 2nd Hill sibling, Will. I don't know which one I like the most but one thing is certain: Kadie comes up with the most patient and swoon worthy heroes. Don't worry if you haven't read the first book, this one can definitely be read as a standalone.
We get an instalove between Will and Rusty, although Rusty fights it with all her being. Being raised by a single father who didn't know how to deal with girls, Rusty has been love deprived. Needless to say her trust in men is nonexistent. But Will's patience and love broke those walls one by one. Sweet, intense and steamy story that made me want to visit Texas and one of those rodeos (coming from a city girl in Europe) :)
The title works well as the heroine is resisting two men at once -her controlling father and a Texan who has driven up with rodeo bulls to her local rodeo. The lady is good at barrel riding and is also used to brushing off flirtatious cowboys. Then her father announces that he is dying, and if she doesn't marry someone he approves of fast, she won't inherit the ranch.
The Hill family is new to me but we meet several of these good people as they open their home to the heroine when, pretty much to spite her dad, she hightails it off to Texas. I don't approve of what she does - getting into a fake marriage - but the father had no business being a control freak. This story isn't so much action as soap, but we do get some rodeo sports and that would have made a better cover image in my opinion. I downloaded an e-ARC through Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.
Clearly I'm the odd one out, so keep that in mind when reading my review.

UGH... within the first chapter "Rusty" (who is a woman) got on my nerves faster than any other female character ever has. She's beating herself up for page after page because she smiled at some guy in a car next to her when he tipped an imaginary hat in her direction? WTF? It's not like she slept with him. They didn't even exchange words and she's berating herself that much?
Resisting the Rancher is the second book in the Hills of Texas Series by Kadie Scott. Ms. Scott is a new-to-me author and I am really happy that I stumbled on her book, because I really enjoyed it and I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future. This is the second book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone, which is what I did. There are characters in this book who had their own story, in book #1- and they have intrigued me enough to want to go back and read their story as well. This book is a great contemporary/western/cowboy romance. There was drama, chemistry, some emotion, passion, and wonderful characters. Rusty Walker is quite an accomplished young woman- she is top level barrel racer, a brilliant horse trainer, a masterful rider, and can run a ranch with her eyes closed. But, even as talented as she is- she can’t seem to put a foot right when it comes to her controlling, hard-hearted father. She constantly feels the need to prove herself to him, but he never acknowledges her skills, let alone show her any affection. Rusty wants to take over the family ranch when her father retires, which she hopes will be soon. But instead, he announces that she won’t have anything to do with the ranch unless she marries within the next year. Rusty is shocked- she doesn’t even have a boyfriend, let alone a potential husband on hand. She really wants to be able to put her mark on the family ranch, but she has to face the fact that her dreams may be going up in smoke. What can she do? Because things don’t look good for her, and she may be left with no choice but to leave the only home she’s ever known. Williams Hill is a cowboy rancher, who is building a business providing stock to the rodeo circuit. He is a gifted horse trainer, and a savvy businessman. While at the latest rodeo, he notices a sexy redhead singing her heart out in the car stopped next to his at the lights. There is a spark of awareness between them, before she takes off when the lights change. Will can’t stop thinking about her but thinks he probably will never see her again. So, imagine his surprise when he sees her at the rodeo- but whenever he tries talking to her, she shuts him down. But as the days pass and they keep bumping into each other, she slowly begins to thaw. But she won’t allow herself to trust him completely, because she’s been burnt in the past- not to mention having a father like hers has given Rusty quite a lot of issues. When Will discovers who she is and what her father had demanded of her, he makes her a deal she can’t refuse. What is the deal you ask? And does Rusty’s suspicious nature get the better of her and end up derailing their blossoming romance? And will she finally win her father’s respect? All this and more can be discovered between the cover of this great book. You really should uncover all the answers for yourself. It really is worth the read! Now I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series, if this book is any indication, they are set to be awesome! Well done!
Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott Rusty Walker has spent her entire life trying to earn her tough, ranching father’s respect and approval by learning the business inside and out. But now her uncompromising parent has decreed she must marry if she wants to inherit. Worse, her husband has to be someone who can help her run the business. As if she needs it! Can this soft-spoken Texas cowboy convince his proud wife, who’s never known unconditional love, that she is everything he wants? This is Rusty Walker and Williams Hill's story. The woman driving a shiny new black Ford truck was gorgeous with high cheekbones and pouty lips. Her long hair was pulled back in a ponytail, so he couldn’t quite make out the color, but her appearance wasn’t what had made him laugh. She was clearly enjoying a favorite song—singing and dancing for all she was worth, without a care in the world for who might be watching. He chuckled again as she did a little shoulder shimmy. Adorable was the word that struck him, and he was strangely affected, an instant attraction coiling inside in a way that surprised him. Williams Hill dragged his hand over his face as he sat in his truck at a stoplight in Estes Park, Colorado. After two straight days of driving up from Texas, he was ready to reach his destination of the rodeo grounds in the small Rocky Mountain town. Flexing his shoulders to work out the kinks, he happened to glance over at the vehicle stopped next to him. Everything in him froze… then released in a pent-up laugh. Suddenly, she glanced toward him and stilled as she discovered her audience. Her eyes went wide and she sent him a sheepish grin. I highly recommend reading. "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book." Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott is a wonderful well written 4 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books Kadie Scott. It’s so easy to feel empathy for Rusty. She’s a talented, capable woman running her family’s ranch, she knows the business inside and out… and yet her overbearing, out of date father will only allow her to inherit if… if… she marries a “suitable” man. Yeah, it’s real easy to feel for Rusty’s situation with a father who never gave praise, never believed a woman could do his job or had the confidence that she could take over the business for him one day. So, sometimes a woman’s gotta do what a woman’s gotta do… and in this case that means a marriage of convenience with a “suitable” man, a man who could easily be her future if she could just believe in him. Unfortunately, her father taught her well that no one does something for nothing, and she’s waiting for what Will wants from her now.
I fell a bit in love with Will myself. He’s fallen for this strong-willed woman completely. He knows she’s fully able to handle anything that he can on the ranch, with the business. What he doesn’t know is how to convince Rusty that he truly does love her and wants a real marriage, not one with an expiration date. It’s going to be a battle, but one that Will is determined to win, after all it’s their future together at stake.
Watching Rusty accept that her father will never change his opinion of her or her abilities, beginning to trust in Will’s real reasons for their marriage and that first glimpse of faith that he might really, truly love her just as she is… that moment makes the pain of the journey almost worth while I enjoyed Rusty and Will’s romance, it’s believable, and realistic for their situation. And besides, I love watching a knight in well worn leather do his job, don’t you?
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Resisting the Rancher (The Hills of Texas Book 2) By: Kadie Scott 5 out of 5 stars
The story Resisting the Rancher (The Hills of Texas Book 2) by Kadie Scott is a contemporary western romance book. It is the first story that I have read by the author and I loved it. I fell in love with both the storyline and the characters more and more with every chapter that I read. I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished the last page. I just had to know how it all turns out for Rusty Walker and Williams Hill. Williams is a man that has a business providing rodeo stock. He understands the business and the connections that need to be made in order to survive. What he can’t understand is the way he feels after meeting Rusty. Rusty is a beautiful, strong, and independent woman who also knows about the rodeo business. She is one that doesn’t get involved with rodeo cowboys. Her reaction to any interest is to turn cold. From the first time that these two meet they can’t stop thinking about each other. One kiss shows the attraction that is there. Is it fate or destiny that these two keep running into each other? Rusty is a woman who has built up walls around her heart. The past experiences and her father have taught her not to trust. Circumstances lead to Williams agreeing to marry Rusty. Will Williams be able to get her to let go of her suspicions and trust him? Will he be able to show her just how much he loves her and wants her as his own? Read to find out if Williams and Rusty find happiness together. I love it when a story makes you feel warm all over and that is exactly how I felt when reading this one. Your heart gets involved and I was crossing my fingers that Williams and Rusty find an HEA. I also loved reading about the other characters that are introduced in the book. Many of them are warm and caring and I enjoyed reading about how they interact with Rusty and Williams. I enjoyed reading about the rodeos that are attended. This is a well-written story that you don’t want to miss out on. It is the second book in a series and I can’t wait to read the next one.
I loved, loved, loved Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott, book two in The Hills of Texas series. This is an emotional roller coaster of a story, dealing with trust, strangers, and love. Rusty Walker has spent her entire life trying to earn respect and approval from her ranching father that she is capable of running his business, even earning a business degree. However, he does not believe that she, or any woman, is capable of running his business. If she wants to inherit she must marry a man of his approval who can help her run the business. In a fit of rebellion she agrees to work for Williams Hill training horses for barrel racing. Will kissed Rusty in an act of temporary insanity, and lost his heart to her right there, if not earlier. Despite the complications to his own rodeo stock business, he agrees to marry the feisty red-head, hoping to woo her once they're hitched. Because of her past history with men, she views him with suspicion and resentment, not sure that he wants her instead of her ranch. I felt for Rusty. She had never known unconditional love and distrusted Will motives. She enjoyed life living with his family and getting to know him better but had decided that this marriage would not last long. It was difficult for Will to convince her otherwise, knowing that he had strong feelings for her. Will was feeling that no matter what he did it was the wrong move and that he would never convince Rusty that she should choose to stay with him, love him, and let him love her.
I totally loved reading this book and didn’t want to put this book down. Ms. Scott wrote a wonderful and emotional story which drew me in, making me forget the world around me and did not let me go until I turned the last page, loving the characters she created. I highly recommend this book to other reader.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Resisting the Rancher (Hills of Texas #2) by Kadie Scott was a good feel, frustrating, outstanding read that had me hooked from start to finish.
My first read by this author, I was pleasantly surprise with how much I loved this book. Told in dual POV I was capture from the first chapter, no from when Will saw Rusty dancing and singing in her truck. This is part of a series, but even though they take place within the same world and family, it reads as a stand-a-lone. So no worries if you haven't read the first book. I have always had a guilty pleasure with the whole business like deal weddings, one of my favourites is With This Ring I thee Dread.
Rusty, I loved her, smart, independent, strong; but I did get a little annoyed with some for her standoffness and jumping to conclusions. But it was nice to see that she was the one that had to make things better instead of the man.
Will was a dream guy, like wow, how and where can I get one? He's was a freaking saint for being so patient with the pig headed Rusty. But they fit, and even though they jumped into marriage, their relationship grew at a natural pace and felt real. Will, he for me, was the true star of this book. Sure Rusty is that strong female protagonist that I love, but Will, he stole the show with his unique personality and non-alpha approach to wooing the stubborn read head.
Overall I loved every minute of this book, this is a super high recommendation from me. The writing is witty, entertaining and at no point in this wicket tale did I feel board or done with the story. I wanted it to go on. I will be going back and reading the first book, and every book that follows this one. There are still two more brother and a sister that needs a story told. I am looking forward to jumping beck into this sweet cowboy world.
Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott is the second book in her series The Hills of Texas and I fell in love with this one from page one. Following the story of Rusty Walker and Williams Hill, you could tell from early on that they were perfect for each other. Williams is a man who works hard to provide stock animals for the rodeo, and he makes sure that business is good day in and day out. Williams has a natural connection to the business and is willing to work his fingers to the bone to get the results that he wants. Rusty has been bred to work the ranch, and just because she happened to be born a woman doesn’t mean that she can’t pull her own weight day in and day out. When she finds out from her father that she won’t inherit what is rightfully hers without a husband to help her run the business seeing red is an understatement. Williams is drawn to Rusty from the first night that they meet, and even though she isn’t interested in rodeo cowboys there is something about her that keeps Williams trying to turn her eye towards him. Kissing her was something that Williams did on a whim, but the spark that he felt when her lips keeps her on his mind every day and night. When circumstances lead their paths to cross again, Rusty takes a huge leap of faith with Williams and asks him to marry her and run the ranch with her. When he agrees there is something that just clicks between these two. Both of them have been hurt in the past, but if they can work together they will find that accidental love is one of the best things to happen to either of them. Scott is an old favorite of mine, having read several of her stories in the past. I can’t seem to get enough of her writing style and this series is no exception. If you are looking for a great series, or even just a great author that will pull you under with each book, than this is the author and series for you! Can’t wait to see what she brings to her readers next.
Resisting The Rancher by Kadie Scott is the second book in her The Hills of Texas series. This book can be read as a standalone. Rusty loves the ranch. She has spent her whole life learning the business inside and out, all with the view to making her father proud. To show him that she can take over the family business. However earning his approval isn’t as easy as she hoped it would be. Instead of letting her take over, her father decides that she must marry in order to inherit the ranch from him. And she can’t just pick any person, she has to pick someone who can help her run the ranch. Rusty sets about trying to find someone to help with her predicament. And when she meets Williams Hill in a bar she thinks the answers she has been looking for have been found. Despite his attempts to woo her Rusty tries to stay distant. She doesn’t trust the man she married, doesn’t trust he won’t try to take over. But how long can she deny him? And how long can she continue to deny her own feelings? I love books where the H and h have to marry quickly for one reason or another and this book is a great example of that type of story. Rusty is everything you could want out of a lead female. She is strong and feisty, independent but showed signs of knowing when to trust someone else. She and Williams worked well together, her feistiness against his soft-spoken nature. This is a new author to me but I was impressed by the writing style and with how the story flowed very well. A great book and one I would recommend.
I loved this book! I haven’t read a good country story in a long time! Resisting the Rancher is Book 2 in The Hills of Texas Series by Kadie Scott. Rusty Walker has grown up wanting to take over her family’s ranch. However, the only thing stopping her is her father. Her father resents the fact that she is female and can’t possibly run the ranch because of it. It’s also the same reason why she will never date a man that has to do with the Rodeo circuit. Her father also has a plan for Rusty. Rusty has to marry within the next year to someone that he approves of or she will not be able to take over the ranch. But she is bound and determined to prove that she can do it on her own. Williams “Will” Hill is in the rodeo stock business as well as horses. He is also very handsome. The instant these two eyes meet, something takes over. Instant attraction but Rusty is hell bent on not dating anyone involved with the circuit. But there is something that keeps pulling her back to him and vice versa. Will is ultimately intrigued by Rusty and all of her beauty. What will happen when things are forced between the two? I love the connection that these two have. This book was definitely a page turner! I couldn’t put this book down. The author really knows how to write a story to where you feel like you are there. I can’t wait to read the other books in the series. You do not have to read the first book in order to read this one!
Resisting the Rancher (Hills of Texas #2) By Kadie Scott Rated 4 stars
“What has him hotter than jalapeño peppers was that damn kiss” this book is full of lines just like this! I love it. Making me smile while I read is a huge bonus in my book. Ranching, Rodeos and humor is a great combination for a story. This is almost about the backside of a rodeo. Rusty’s family and Williams are both stock providers for the rodeos. Rusty is wanting her fathers ranch/business and Will is looking to increase his. There is a manipulative father involved who places rules on Rusty. Will has and amazing family full of love. Will’s amazing array of t-shirts left me giggling more than once. I love how patient Will is. He also helps his family out so much and he is unaware of all he does for them. His family is so crazy cool. I love how they all accepted Rusty right away. Rusty had a tough life. Only left with a father who would prefer she’s a boy. She has trust issues from former boyfriends so Will really has his work cut out for him. I feel Rusty did a lot of growing during the story.
I really enjoyed this at the beginning. There was much cuteness and humor around. As the story went on it seemed to be more serious and less attempts at humor. I still liked reading it and this is a first time author for me. I would be interested in Holly and Cash’s story. I think that’s book 1.
Resisting the Rancher was a fun 4 star read, this is book 2 in the Hills of Texas series.
Rusty has been trying all her life to get her father’s praise. She has worked very hard on the family business and one day hopes to take over, however her father isn’t quite convinced. Her father is very old fashioned and isn’t confident a woman can take over. Rusty has to marry a man that her father approves of in order to inherit the ranch, will she be able to find one?
Williams has his own business and he is very familiar with Rusty and how hard of a worker she is when she starts working for him he can’t help but be attracted to her. Williams eventually agrees to help Rusty by getting married, although he has an ulterior motive.
Rusty has trust issues and is worried about getting too close to Williams. She’s not quite sure what his intentions are with her and the ranch. She also has some feelings that she is trying to hide as well.
Will Rusty get her ranch? Will Williams get a HEA with Rusty?
Rusty was a strong willed, hard working woman. Wiliams was a loving, hard working man. This was my first read from Kadie Scott and once I started I couldn’t put the book down. I really liked the storyline and the characters. I look forward to reading more from her.
Resisting the Rancher By Kadie Scott is the second book in the Hills of Texas series and is a great story of love at first sight.
Will saw her for the first time singing along to the radio in her car at the traffic lights, but who is she and why has she captured his imagination so much. Rusty has seen his gorgeous blue eyes but as a rule she doesn't date cowboys and this beautiful man is definitely a cowboy.
As the story goes on you find that Rusty is not the stone cold female she projects herself as, but is dealing with some major father issues. Her father is a old fashioned rancher so when he give Rusty an ultimatum regarding the ranch she can't believe she is actually pandering to her father.
Will jumps to the rescue and suggests something so outrageous it might actually work, the only problem is they have to get married for it to work. As the story continues you get to see more into the relationship between Rusty and her father, but you also see the dynamic between Rusty and Will increase and work toward a happily ever after.
I loved this story and the insight into these to characters is brilliant, I am glad that this book ended in a happy ending and does Rusty stay married to Will or has her father beaten them down. I can't wait to read more stories in this series, I can't wait to see how the other Hills family turnout.
Resisting the Rancher (The Hills of Texas Book 2) by Kadie Scott. This is book 2 in the Hills of Texas Series. This is the first book I've read by this author but will not be my last. I love it! I'm going to read the first book I liked this one so much! This is a contemporary western about Rusty Waller. Rusty knows everything there is to know about Rodeo Stock Ranching but her father will never let her have full control. He's decided the only way she can take over is if she marries someone her father approves of. Since Rusty doesn't have a boyfriend or even a potential one she's shocked. Her dream has always been to take over the Ranch when her father retires but now her father is trying to take that dream away. Enter Wills Hill, a skilled rancher and horse trainer, there is instant chemistry between them but Rusty is scared and not willing to let down her guard. She decides to marry him because its the only way her Dad will let her run the Ranch. Will Rusty let down her guard and fall for Wills, will Wills risk his farm & business to marry the girl he's starting to have real feelings for. Read Resisting the Rancher to find out.
I enjoyed this book as much as I did book one in the series. This one centers around Rusty Walker and Williams/Will Hills. She is an accomplish barrel racer, horse trainer, and daughter of a wealthy rancher. A man that thinks she isn’t capable of running his ranch, while in fact she is very capable . Will handles rodeo stock and is creating a name for himself and his family’s ranch . They meet at a rodeo and the chemistry is obvious, though she believes he is attracted to her only because of whom her father is. They make a deal that will benefit both of them. Though Rusty is sure it will be only a marriage of convenience that has an expiration date, Will has other plans. The plot was engaging and the characters complex. It’s a story about a family’s support or lack thereof. As well as a story about trust, goals, forgiveness and of course love. The storyline ran smoothly and if you read book 1, you will be happy to know that the characters make an appearance. Looking forward to what the author has in store for us in future books. I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley and Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Resisting the rancher is book 2 in the Hills of Texas Series From author Kadie Scott. This is my first read from this author and won’t be my last, even though these books can be read as stand-alone I will be going back to read book 1 and the rest in this series.
This book is engaging and captivating and you can't help but read and not put it down. She has created a plot that is easy to read and flows from chapter to chapter and she has created characters that are real, relatable and lovable. Will & Rusty have an immediate connection that you can tell will be a whirlwind - from the moment they spot each other it begins an up and down connection that both of them want but Rusty will stop at nothing to push Will away. You can feel the chemistry coming off the page between these two if only there wasn't so many things holding them back. I couldn't help but love Williams he is everything you could want in a guy, Rusty is feisty and knows exactly what she wants and I think they both have something special and powerful and make a great couple.
There are many secondary characters that I can't wait to explore in this series that I hope we get their story and find out more about them but until then do not miss this romantic read.
I haven't read anything by this author before, but I want to read more of her stories. Rusty is very prickly and doesn't trust very many people, especially men. Her father made her that way, he is very controlling and sometimes mean. He wishes she had been a boy and that the woman he loved above everything had not died giving birth to Rusty. Will is from a big, noisy and close family. When Rusty and Will meet, it isn't love at first sight because Rusty refuses to believe that any man wants her for anything but her connection to her father's business. Rusty's dad tells her she will only inherit the ranch she loves if she marries someone that he approves of. She is attracted to Will and her father does approve of him, so she probably shouldn't trust him. Will does talk her into the marriage, but puts it as a business deal to make her comfortable, but he wants so much more. Will she ever trust him enough to give him more?
Resisting the Rancher has another one of those handsome tough Hill men. This time it is rodeo cowboy, William. It also has a resilient, tough female with Rusty Walker. The past is still influencing the present and perhaps the future in this cowboy tale by Kadie Scott. While the story is very different, I can see the thread of theme running through this series; parents have such lasting effects on their children, especially in this case, their relationship with others.
I liked these characters especially Will. The story flows being evenly paced. I wanted this couple to work through the issues that Rusty. Easily seeing the strength in them being together. Heartfelt story about ranch life, family, and love make this an entertaining read.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
There is something interesting about reading a book where you actually have to work for the end result. That is exactly how I felt about Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott.
Rusty Walker is such a strong-willed woman who is literally fighting for everything that she has and that she deserves. Unfortunately for her, her father tells her that the only way that she can become the owner of the ranch that she so much desires is if she marries. In comes William Hill – an individual who knows the ranching business and happens to be the individual that she has to marry. Lucky for him, he’s fallen in love with Rusty, but he has to fight to show her what unconditional love truly is, and he has to teach her how to love back.
I absolutely loved immersing myself within this book and getting lost within its pages. I loved the author’s writing style and the way in which she developed her characters. Definitely a 5 Star Book for me!!
Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott is book two of The Hills of Texas series. This book is a contemporary western romance and can be read as a standalone. I didn’t read book one of the series before reading this book but I’m definitely going to have to read it now. I was sucked in from the beginning.
Rusty has tried everything she can to get her father’s approval. She’s come to realize that it may not happen. Rusty has made it so that she does not get involved with rodeo cowboys and she realizes almost immediately that she should steer clear of Williams Hill but that doesn’t explain why she can’t stop thinking about him. While Williams realizes Rusty is everything he wants, she sees him as a way around her father’s requirement.
Will Williams be able to convince Rusty that she is it for him? Will Rusty finally be able to know and accept unconditional love?
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how strong and independent Rusty is. She realized she most likely wouldn’t get her father’s acceptance but that didn’t stop her from trying to ruffle his feather’s. I found myself chuckling every now and then. I absolutely recommend this book!
This author definitely knows how to draw a reader into her story from the first page. Characters have tremendous personalities, creating a connection early in the story. The dialog is engaging, the banter between the Hill siblings is laugh out loud hilarious, with the moments of tenderness between Will and Rusty pulling at the heartstrings.
Will is an especially exceptional character...he captured my heart early on with his gentle nature...not to mention he is the epitome of a cowboy...sexy and smart. Rusty’s feistiness jumps out at you, one moment she’s hard hearted, the next her sensitivity makes itself know when she berates herself for her behavior.
I’m looking forward to more stories about the Hill siblings...especially Autry and Jennings.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Resisting The Rancher by Kadie Scott is a Hills of Texas Romance book two. Resist the Rancher can be read as a stand alone. This is a cute romantic story. Rusty is a tough, out to prove herself woman, and while proving herself she meets Williams Hill. They have an instant attraction but Rusty is cautious of every man involved in the rodeo, she doesn’t trust them. Rusty and Wills connection in the story is cute and fast paced. The story itself I liked, I want to read about the other hill kids, especially Carter. They all work well together, especially Will and Rusty, they have a push and pull relationship, but what can you expect when one person grows up in an open loving family and the other doesn’t. The relationship between the two get complicated and hot, at what point is it no longer a lie but the what they both truly want, even if it’s hidden under fear and uncertainty.
Resisting the Rancher by Kadie Scott is a light and easy romance read that I enjoyed from start to finish. It’s the second book in the Hills of Texas series, it’s also my first of the series so I can honestly say that it can be read as a standalone, although I look forward to reading the first book because I loved this one so much!
Resisting the Rancher follows Williams and Rusty, two incredibly funny characters who met under crazy circumstances. Their story is unconventional, sweet, romantic and laugh out loud funny. I loved Kadie’s attention to detail and the perfect flow of the storyline. This is one of those books that I can see myself reading over and over again and it’s definitely a book I would recommend to anyone looking for their next romance read!
After Saving the Sheriff I was very happy to see another book from Kadie Scott. We meet Rusty Walker, the tough chick, who can ride a horse like no other. However, her father is always talking her down and not taking her seriously. Since her brother died, the famous Walker empire will go to her, or so she assumes. But when her father drops a bomb, by telling her he is dying and she can only inherit the family empire if she is married to a man of his approval (and fast), she is determined to find her own way. So when Holly asks her to come help train rodeo riders on their farm she leaps at the chance. What she didn't realize, was that she would be working together with Williams Hill, the hot and yummie cowboy who tried to go out on a date with her. Determined to stay independent, she brushed him off, just like all the other cowboys. Because she is afraid, that one of these cowboys will turn out just like her cruel father, who only lives for the ranch. But then Williams proposes to help her: marry him and inherit the ranch. Because Williams wants to build an allegiance with the Walker imperium, to increase his own business. So it will be a win-win situation. After the first weeks into marriage, however, both Rusty and Williams start realizing they are in over their heads. So... will the fake marriage last? Find out for yourself in this wonderful story of Kadie Scott. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
