The first three books in the bestselling Shadow Accords series!
Orphaned in a foreign city. Able to control the shadows. Gifted with the A'ras flame. Carth must do more than master her powers to stop a dangerous threat, she must first master herself.
Shadow Blessed The A'ras of Nyaesh have a terrifying reputation: skilled swordsmen, owners of powerful magic, and ruthless killers. When they kill her parents, Carth discovers her parents had trained her for magic she never knew she possessed.
She must use the skills they taught to stay alive, discover a way to find answers, and avenge them if she can. Only the discovery of a greater threat than the A'ras forces her to risk herself for new friends and a home she never wanted.
Shadow Cursed When Carthenne Rel first came to Nyaesh, she feared the A’ras. Now she trains with them, struggling to use the magic they teach, and cut off from the shadow blessing within her. Isolated for her differences, she has only a few friends among the other students. When the strange and powerful Master Invar offers to teach her to access the powers warring within her, Carth is isolated even more.
As the deadly Reshian attack the city, Carth discovers a secret, one linked to the shadows she must suppress, and the combination of her magic is key to the A'ras survival. She needs to master her abilities as an even more dangerous threat appears, one that changes everything she’s become, and challenges everything she knows about her past.
Shadow Born Carthenne Rel survived the Hjan attack on the A'ras and has left the north, the only place she ever really known. Now she travels to better understand what it means that she's shadow born.
Stranded by storms in a dangerous port city, she's captured while helping rescue a young girl from slavers. Discovering her mysterious captor's agenda forces her to play his games in order to escape, only to realize she hasn't finished with the Hjan. The lessons her captor has taught just might be the key to defeating them for good while protecting all of the north.
I have read and reviewed all three books independently as I read them and this is a very gripping series which I hope to continue reading as I have been totally captivated by Carth's story. Carth had been orphaned in a new city seeing her mother killed before her very eyes and her father imprisoned. She hated the A'ras who she blamed for her mother's murder and is out to seek vengeance but instead discovers that she has A'ras magic and starts training with them. She also has been blessed with shadow abilities and when she combines these two magical powers she is the only one able to defeat the Hyan. In a world full of different magical abilities and a Kingdom which is being threatened Carth has to choose who to work with and who to trust and who to try and save. A very gripping tale which keeps the reader hooked right from the start.
Another winner from D K Holmberg! A must read! I absolutely loved every book in this triple hitter! I can't wait to download number four in the series. Mr. Holmberg's characters are made to love and hate in equal measures. The main character Carth, is a true heroine. Beaten down, lost, then fights like her life and those she cares about are in dire threat. Standing on the sideline rooting for her, then drop our jaws in awe as she slips out of her everyday outfit into her supervisor suit. In other words you'll be amazed at the ending!!!! BRAVO
From the beginning this series grabs the readers imagination and holds it in a powerful grip! Make no mistake, once you begin to read you cannot resist the pull of D.K. Holmberg's magic! This author has a command of words and an unmatched ability to use them to create new worlds and their inhabitants! Commit to reading just one chapter and I promise you will read the entire series and any others written by this gifted author. Thank you Mr. Holmberg for creating the unique worlds which are my favorite escape!
D.K. Holmberg is an award-winning author, well known in todays sci-fi/fantasy circles. Even if he was without such accolades before, he should be granted such honors for writing this fabulous trilogy, The Shadow Accords Box Set: Books 1-3! The character development and world-building are masterful. The plot has been competently and professionally rendered.
The story unveiled in this trilogy is rich and deep. Yes, there is plenty of action and adventure. The fantasy is original and creative. But the series also includes a deep psychological exploration of individual personal responsibility that makes this work rise to a higher literary level than most in its genre.
Congratulations to Mr. Holmberg on yet another worthy creation!
Please note that the trilogy has subsequently been expanded into a longer series.
A very interesting box set of learning. Carth continues to learn about her skills and struggles to decide what her next move will be. Each book takes its time as Carth battles with her inner musings. At times she knows and is determined to make her next move. And at other times she tries to puzzle out what she needs to do next. It can be very frustrating where I find myself biting my nails. Hopefully the next book will tell us more of what Carth has decided.
Excellent world and character building. A lot of mystery and suspense surrounds Carthenne in her adventures. There area few spelling / grammatical errors which could be solved by good proofreading and editing. I still rated it as a 5 for the enjoyment I wish there was a box set for books 4 - 6. Looking forward to reading the further adventures of Carthenne.
What can I say....kept my interest for the most part, liked the twist and turns some were obvious. I am a bit disappointed but I am not able to put my finger on why exactly. I liked the characters, would of preferred more of some and less of others.
I downloaded a bunch of free books. Yours was among them. Loved the story of a girl trying to figure out how to be the best she can. Take control of the future for herself.
A excellent story about a girl growing up and finding her abilities with the shadow and the flame. A very special person. I read all of the books and she is one awesome lady. You need to read them all. She is awesome in another couple of stories as well.
I liked these books, but I got really sick of how Carth was so stupid and played stupid in the 2nd book. None of that fierceness of the first book, and even though she was the only person who could hurt Hjan, she would say she was weak and lucky. For some stupid reason she keeps all her shadow power a secret and doesn’t use it to kick ass.
