I bow to no man.
The words are tattooed on my skin, just as they’re branded on my heart.
But I never planned for Sergeant Lincoln Asher, a man as deceptive as he is cold. His dominance sets my teeth on edge . . . and my body on fire. He won’t stop until I’m his, but I’m not his to take.

KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS
Once upon a time, in a far, far away land, when I'd first found myself alone and scared, I'd pictured my saviour, I'd imagined my Prince Charming as the requisite blond with the blue eyes and the tall physique-to say nothing of the fact that he'd be sweet and gentlemanly and oh-so-handsome. Lincoln Asher failed on every front-aside from his Haint blue eyes.

"Sworn" by Maria Luis was such a good read it was also the first thing I've read by this particular author.
From the minute I started this I was transfixed and transported into the fascinating world of Avery and Lincoln.
Set against the decadent background of New Orleans; we are swiftly immersed into this rich tapestry of secrets and lies.
"Sworn" features Lincoln and Avery; the former a cop and the latter a tarot reading runner just trying to live ...more

Good Lord people!! The minute I read the blurb to Sworn I knew I needed to read it. And honestly? This story blew.my.mind!!! This was so well written. Lincoln and Avery were fantastic. They were so sexy and this story was raw, gripping and so intense. I never wanted it to end!!

First of all, Oh My GAWD. How is it that this is the first book I have ever read by this author?! It for sure will not be my last. Excuse me as I go add them all to my Kindle.

WOW!
What a great freaking book!! I devoured my first Maria Luis book.
This story starts out with a bang and keeps you guessing all the way to the end, which of course ends on a cliff. But that is okay TRUST ME!
Avery is a 13-year-old girl when she ends up on the streets. She has to become unknown and a shadow to stay safe. Now at 25, she has become many people but she is Avery Washington a tarot card reader. She is a loner that has secrets that could get her killed, or so she believes.

How do I review this book? Well, Maria hit it out of the ball park with this one. Avery is a girl with secrets and just as they say opposited attract—in this case it is two people with similar backgrounds that attract. Lincoln is a mystery to most everyone. Is he good? Is he bad? Does it even matter because the sparks that fly from Avery and Lincoln are going to set your heart on fire for them to make it.

Not sure I'll try and read the next book this was a bit flat for me.

This book is a total gem!
There are so many words I could use to describe Sworn but I don’t think any of them would do the book justice. I’ve loved everything that I have read by Maria Luis but it is safe to say that Sworn has blown all of her previous works out of the water! It is definitely not the typical romcom we've to expect from her but it absolutely exceptional. You have to read it to fully grasp what an amazing story this is. Just download this book now and dive in.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author.. Have you ever read a book from Maria? If you haven't I ask why not? Let me tell you my friends that she is awesome, and she only gets better and better. I am about to erect an altar to her that is how good she is. Any hoo this book is stupendous. We meet Avery and this woman, huh my heart goes out to her, she is strong but still wary, and with reason I really don't want to give much info because honestly you need to read, no really. And then we have Lincoln woo

Oh Wow!!! I Love This Book!!!! I could hardly put this book down and was actually pretty upset when I had to stop to answer questions my family kept asking (like are you going to come eat dinner? Uh no, can't you see I'm too busy swooning over Lincoln and trying to solve a mystery in N'Orleans' shadows). The lead female is such a perfect balance of a badass woman and a lonely little girl. Then, the lead male, Lincoln; just holy hot damn, I mean, for real, holy hot f@#ing damn . . . goose bumps .

Not sure what I want to say other than OMG! Having New Orleans as the setting is almost always a win in my book as I have family in the near area. But the story has to be intriguing and interesting and “Sworn” is both. Both Avery and Lincoln aren’t who we think that they are, especially considering how they grew up. I’m not always thrilled with continuing stories, mainly because I don’t like to wait to see what happens next. But when they’re written well, I do love the anticipation of the next p

I did not see that twist at the very end coming.

Very slow
This book was nothing but characters full of angst I got bored halfway through it. The plot progressed very slow and we shouldn't have to read two books to figure out what happens. I felt like it was a waste of time when the storyline could've been condensed. The heroine was wishy washy all the time and the Hero is hopeless. I don't know if I really want to read book 2. ...more

Holy freaking hotness!
Did you hear that? Yup, that was the sound of my insides melting to an oblivion!!! I think I may need an ice cube or 10.
I don't know how Maria does it, but she manages to take all these words, write them down and create an INCREDIBLE story that completely sucks you in and has you utterly enthralled by the words before you. She writes in a way that you forget the outside world even exist and all that matters to you is the fantasy world she has you drawn into.

I would love to give this more than 5 Stars because this book, as with all of Ms Luis’ books, is 10 Stars worthy!
This story is suspenseful, thrilling, sexy, thoughtful and funny. Our two main characters, Avery Washington (Laurel) and Lincoln Asher, drive the plot and ride out the twists and turns of this out of control roller coaster ride. I'm mostly a romcom reader, so Sworn was a bit of a stretch for me. I love Maria Luis's work, though, so I was curious exactly how this would go. I thought I would read one chapter, get a taste of it, and then read more the next day. An hour flew by before I realized it! I was hooked, and I took it with me to my daughter's soccer practice to sneak in some more time.

Cliffhanger you've been warned!
Wow the end was not what I was expecting but will know more when I read book 2.
Avery has been running for years but hidden in plain sight in New Orleans. She wants answers to her mother's murder so disguising herself with different names is the way for her to do it. Then she meets Sergeant Lincoln Asher.
Sergeant Lincoln Asher leads a double life and there's no room for a relationship, but then he meets Avery and the no relationship might change. He is consumed wit ...more

As sinfully delightful as New Orleans itself
Wow! Maria Luis has outdone herself with this book. Avery is strong yet vulnerable, timid yet bold, naive yet sensual. She is the best kind of wonderful in a complicated walking contradiction. Lincoln personifies hurt, anger, and love with nowhere to go. To say these characters are textured and complex is an understatement. Their chemistry will make your heart speed up and beg for more!! Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:
D-A-M-N this is the DARKEST book Maria Luis has EVER written! ITS INTENSE, ITS DELICIOUSLY DIRTY, ITS COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING! I didn't know what to expect when I heard Miss Luis was writing a darker story than we are used to from her. I was nervous, anxious, and excited all at once. And after reading the first book, Sworn, I can say with my whole heart this book was JAW-DROPPING AMAZING!

Loved it!
Another great story from Maria Luis! This is a duet so I waited to finish the second book before writing my review! Have to say in this first book, I wasn't sure I was going to like Lincoln Asher, but before book one ends, he really starts to grow on you as you get to know him better. Maria Luis has a way of making her characters come to life. I also like that she doesn't write weak females. OMG! I have read and thoroughly enjoyed every book by Maria Luis. So, when I read that this book was going to be a dark story, I was apprehensive, but reminded myself that she has never disappointed me.

This book tho!! Where did it come from?!?
Maria Luis has stepped away (let's hope just momentarily) from her usual adorable and romantic banter-filled books to give us this absolute gem of darkness. From the heroine living her life in the shadows to the hero who's filled with them, this book took me for a ride.
A dark, sexy, intriguing ride.

Maria is a big fan of books, nature, dogs, and pretty things - not always in that order, though.
By day, Maria is a historian who specializes in 19th century New Orleans and 14th century London. What do the two eras have in common? Not much, except for disease, scandal, and crime - Maria's favorite historical topics. (For real, if you want to talk any of the above, just reach out!)
