I bow to no man.

The words are tattooed on my skin, just as they’re branded on my heart.

But I never planned for Sergeant Lincoln Asher, a man as deceptive as he is cold. His dominance sets my teeth on edge . . . and my body on fire. He won’t stop until I’m his, but I’m not his to take.

My secrets bind me—and blind me.

I live in the shadows of New Orleans. Hidden and protec

Once upon a time, in a far, far away land, when I'd first found myself alone and scared, I'd pictured my saviour, I'd imagined my Prince Charming as the requisite blond with the blue eyes and the tall physique-to say nothing of the fact that he'd be sweet and gentlemanly and oh-so-handsome. Lincoln Asher failed on every front-aside from his Haint blue eyes.

"Sworn" by Maria Luis was such a good read it was also the first thing I've read by this particular author.
From the minute I started this I was transfixed and transported into the fascinating world of Avery and Lincoln.
Set against the decadent background of New Orleans; we are swiftly immersed into this rich tapestry of secrets and lies.
"Sworn" features Lincoln and Avery; the former a cop and the latter a tarot reading runner just trying to live
She witnessed her mother's murder, she heard it all but didn't see, but the words and the voices belonged to her stepfather and another man...
and all that she could do was run and hide...sentencing herself to the unknown, uncertainty of existence...
In that moment, at age of fourteen, Laurel Peyton had ceased to exist

her life existence was erased by the powerful PR imagery her stepfather displayed, as being the mayor of New Orleans, and Laurel became a shadow on the underground...

Good Lord people!! The minute I read the blurb to Sworn I knew I needed to read it. And honestly? This story!!! This was so well written. Lincoln and Avery were fantastic. They were so sexy and this story was raw, gripping and so intense. I never wanted it to end!!

On the run with secrets so deep, Avery Washington had no intentions of getting involved with a man, let alone a mysterious and broody Police Sergeant who had pain and shadows in his eyes to rival the deep dark alleys in NO

First of all, Oh My GAWD. How is it that this is the first book I have ever read by this author?! It for sure will not be my last. Excuse me as I go add them all to my Kindle.
~*~* 5 Panty Scorching Stars~*~

The writing was basically flawless, I was so into this book, I devoured it in like two hours. It was just that damn good!!

I don't want to give anything and I mean not one single plot point. I don't want to spoil it for anyone.
I feel like it's okay to say that the chemistry between Lincoln and

What a great freaking book!! I devoured my first Maria Luis book.

This story starts out with a bang and keeps you guessing all the way to the end, which of course ends on a cliff. But that is okay TRUST ME!

Avery is a 13-year-old girl when she ends up on the streets. She has to become unknown and a shadow to stay safe. Now at 25, she has become many people but she is Avery Washington a tarot card reader. She is a loner that has secrets that could get her killed, or so she believes.

By Maria Luis

How do I review this book? Well, Maria hit it out of the ball park with this one. Avery is a girl with secrets and just as they say opposited attract—in this case it is two people with similar backgrounds that attract. Lincoln is a mystery to most everyone. Is he good? Is he bad? Does it even matter because the sparks that fly from Avery and Lincoln are going to set your heart on fire for them to make it.

Secrets are the back drop of this book and the layers in which she adds them br
Not sure I'll try and read the next book this was a bit flat for me.

Sex scenes are interesting and I don't hate them but the underlying story puts me off and this isn't really needed. I also don't think there is a warrant for 2 books? Surely one book would have been better

This book is a total gem!

There are so many words I could use to describe Sworn but I don’t think any of them would do the book justice. I’ve loved everything that I have read by Maria Luis but it is safe to say that Sworn has blown all of her previous works out of the water! It is definitely not the typical romcom we've to expect from her but it absolutely exceptional. You have to read it to fully grasp what an amazing story this is. Just download this book now and dive in.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author.. Have you ever read a book from Maria? If you haven't I ask why not? Let me tell you my friends that she is awesome, and she only gets better and better. I am about to erect an altar to her that is how good she is. Any hoo this book is stupendous. We meet Avery and this woman, huh my heart goes out to her, she is strong but still wary, and with reason I really don't want to give much info because honestly you need to read, no really. And then we have Lincoln woo ...more
Oh Wow!!! I Love This Book!!!! I could hardly put this book down and was actually pretty upset when I had to stop to answer questions my family kept asking (like are you going to come eat dinner? Uh no, can't you see I'm too busy swooning over Lincoln and trying to solve a mystery in N'Orleans' shadows). The lead female is such a perfect balance of a badass woman and a lonely little girl. Then, the lead male, Lincoln; just holy hot damn, I mean, for real, holy hot f@#ing damn . . . goose bumps . ...more

Not sure what I want to say other than OMG! Having New Orleans as the setting is almost always a win in my book as I have family in the near area. But the story has to be intriguing and interesting and “Sworn” is both. Both Avery and Lincoln aren’t who we think that they are, especially considering how they grew up. I’m not always thrilled with continuing stories, mainly because I don’t like to wait to see what happens next. But when they’re written well, I do love the anticipation of the next p ...more

Very slow

This book was nothing but characters full of angst I got bored halfway through it. The plot progressed very slow and we shouldn't have to read two books to figure out what happens. I felt like it was a waste of time when the storyline could've been condensed. The heroine was wishy washy all the time and the Hero is hopeless. I don't know if I really want to read book 2.

Pointless cliffhanger

I don’t like books that end in a cliffhanger for no real reason other than to make you have to get the second book. With this book, I don’t care anything about either of the major characters so it doesn’t matter to me if they get shot in the face or not.

Holy freaking hotness!

Did you hear that? Yup, that was the sound of my insides melting to an oblivion!!! I think I may need an ice cube or 10.

I don't know how Maria does it, but she manages to take all these words, write them down and create an INCREDIBLE story that completely sucks you in and has you utterly enthralled by the words before you. She writes in a way that you forget the outside world even exist and all that matters to you is the fantasy world she has you drawn into.

I would love to give this more than 5 Stars because this book, as with all of Ms Luis’ books, is 10 Stars worthy!

This story is suspenseful, thrilling, sexy, thoughtful and funny. Our two main characters, Avery Washington (Laurel) and Lincoln Asher, drive the plot and ride out the twists and turns of this out of control roller coaster ride. It starts out with Ms Luis introducing us to them in all of their imperfections and quirks and some of their back story but just as you peel an onion to revea

I'm mostly a romcom reader, so Sworn was a bit of a stretch for me. I love Maria Luis's work, though, so I was curious exactly how this would go. I thought I would read one chapter, get a taste of it, and then read more the next day. An hour flew by before I realized it! I was hooked, and I took it with me to my daughter's soccer practice to sneak in some more time.
The chemistry between Avery and Lincoln is off the charts from the very first scene. Their dialogue is the best part of the book IM

Cliffhanger you've been warned!
Wow the end was not what I was expecting but will know more when I read book 2.
Avery has been running for years but hidden in plain sight in New Orleans. She wants answers to her mother's murder so disguising herself with different names is the way for her to do it. Then she meets Sergeant Lincoln Asher.
Sergeant Lincoln Asher leads a double life and there's no room for a relationship, but then he meets Avery and the no relationship might change. He is consumed wit

As sinfully delightful as New Orleans itself

Wow! Maria Luis has outdone herself with this book. Avery is strong yet vulnerable, timid yet bold, naive yet sensual. She is the best kind of wonderful in a complicated walking contradiction. Lincoln personifies hurt, anger, and love with nowhere to go. To say these characters are textured and complex is an understatement. Their chemistry will make your heart speed up and beg for more!! The city itself will draw you in and wrap its spell around you. T

D-A-M-N this is the DARKEST book Maria Luis has EVER written! ITS INTENSE, ITS DELICIOUSLY DIRTY, ITS COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING! I didn't know what to expect when I heard Miss Luis was writing a darker story than we are used to from her. I was nervous, anxious, and excited all at once. And after reading the first book, Sworn, I can say with my whole heart this book was JAW-DROPPING AMAZING!

Sworn was really freaking sensational. This book GRIPED me from the start a

Maria Luis has written a raw and edgy suspense. Morals are checked at the door when the impending doom of a life lead in the shadows starts to unravel.

Loved it!

Another great story from Maria Luis! This is a duet so I waited to finish the second book before writing my review! Have to say in this first book, I wasn't sure I was going to like Lincoln Asher, but before book one ends, he really starts to grow on you as you get to know him better. Maria Luis has a way of making her characters come to life. I also like that she doesn't write weak females. Her female leads are always strong women with back home, even the ones that are a little qwerky

OMG! I have read and thoroughly enjoyed every book by Maria Luis. So, when I read that this book was going to be a dark story, I was apprehensive, but reminded myself that she has never disappointed me.
From the start, the story was very compelling. Both characters were very interesting and likeable. There was amazing sensual chemistry between them and lots of drama and suspense. The story took many twists and turns and then.... OMG. A shocker and cliffhanger. An hour and a half after I finished

This book tho!! Where did it come from?!?

Maria Luis has stepped away (let's hope just momentarily) from her usual adorable and romantic banter-filled books to give us this absolute gem of darkness. From the heroine living her life in the shadows to the hero who's filled with them, this book took me for a ride.

A dark, sexy, intriguing ride.

Avery and Lincoln are complicated on their own, but together they're doubly dangerous and doesn't that make this book the kind you read in one sitting! I can
