This was a book highly anticipated and I was not disappointed.
If you have read the series (Counsellor) ACQUISITION, you will most probably understand how much wicked Celia Aaron's mind is.
You will also probably notice many similarities between "The Cloister" and the "Acquisition"series. This time religion and blind beliefs have the central role in the people's manipulation, BUT still the twisted sexual needs and the fear are the und

The Maiden was a brilliant introduction to the dark and twisted tale of The Cloister. It was at once scary, thrilling and exciting. I loved it!! The Prophet is just a man, hungry for power; the Spinners are his faithful female worshippers, happily doing his bidding when it comes to the Maidens, and willing to do harm to spread his word; the Protectors were far from being protective, as they were men given the charge of furthering the Prophet’s agenda with the Maidens, and they didn’t do this wit ...more

I went into this one somewhat blind!!! Holy hell, did I get a surprise of my life. I couldn't remember if this was considered dark or not?!!! Let me tell's dark...and kind of horrific. Ironcially, I started watching this tv show, "Escaping Polygamy" and this book reminds me a little bit like that. Just a similar theme is all, please don't think it is exactly like that...but you have the whole religion/cult vibe going on... and a brainwashing Prophet, whom everyone is supposed to worshi ...more

At 21 years old, Delilah joins the Cloister to fill a void and get answers. While believing she was prepared for the truth, she soon discovers a web of deceit and a hierarchy of complex lies, corruption and abuse. Despite what she learns, Delilah forges ahead under the guise of being a proper Maiden all the while being tempted by a ravening wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Also, I apologize in advance for this review being as long as a book.

Oh my lanta, Celia Aaron, I thought I loved The Acquisition series (and Lucius is still my number one man), but The Cloister series is my new FAVE. Okay, yes, I've only read The Maiden so far, but it has already made my thoughts on this series firm. Things I love: Cults, hot yet bad heroes, brave heroines, secrets, and books that verge on being almost too dark for the general public. The Maiden? Checks all

“You don’t tell the wolf what to do, little lamb.”

This one starts off slowly and gets intense.
Basically a religious cult. A heroine you’re rooting for, and an anti-hero you just want to yell at, but you also sort of root for him to go hero too. This story is dark and not pretty at all. There are certain characters that I honestly HATE so much, and this is just a book. Like I was in a bad mood at points when reading, because I dislike them so much. This book is FULL of abuse triggers, so if that’

This book is messed up and dark but I couldn’t stop reading it!

This story is pretty intense. Many things made me uncomfortable but it was so good!

The “Prophet” is such a sick, evil bastard. He is the leader of a cult that disguises itself as a religion. So many horrible things happen inside The Cloister but people still follow him like lambs.

Adam is the “Prophets” son. He’s possessive, alpha and in a sense a rebel. I really liked him and I hope we get to learn more about him in the next book.

I don’t know why I’m continually surprised by Aaron’s talent, but I am! The Maiden is the first installment of a religious cult trilogy. I am fascinated with this sort of thing as I find it very hard to believe the level of brainwashing that occurs in this environment.

Although The Maiden is fiction, it’s very clear some of the practices outlined in this story are steeped in fact. Adam and Noah’s father is the Prophet. I saw very little paternal affection towards the boys. They seemed to be regar

The Maiden is fucked up. It's depraved and also amazing. There's so much more to it than that but I won't get into that because I don't want to spoil it for others.

However I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I'm really excited to see what The Prophet will bring.

I recommend this book to all lovers of dark romance.

My first books by Celia Aaron was the Acquisition series. Which was at the same time my first encounter with dark romance and I was quite surprised how much I liked it. This book is a perfect example of what I love about Goodreads, I've been seeing reviews and love for this series everytime I logged on for the past 2 weeks time. And seeing all the love it got I knew I was missing out on something. So what do I do, I buy it of course (with money I'm supposed to be saving oops) and I immediately knew it was worth the money.

When Celia Aaron tells you her new series is dark and mind blowing, you take that statement as truth and be nervous as hell. That is exactly how I felt reading this novel. I was anxious, nervous, shocked and consumed!! I could not stop reading as I sat transfixed reading this story in one sitting. I was unable to look away as the story was compelling and so addicting. Unmistakable undertones of The Handmaid's Tale, it wished they weren't so blatant. I went into this book with high hopes, I LOVED Blackwood and have been wanting another Celia Aaron book that could live up to it.

Unfortunately there was so much going on that I felt like nothing was flushed out very well in the short span of this book, or novella since it really is very short.

The Maiden by Author Celia Aaron is book one in the Cloister series. It is a dark romance novel.

Delilah joins a cult to find answers to why her sister died. I liked that she wasn’t brainwashed and she was joining for another reason.

The book started off good and it had promise. I liked how fast it started and the book has a good mixture of dialogue and inner monologues. I’m kind of picky with word flow.

Adam is the son of the leader. Just because he is the leader doesn’t mean he isn’t treated any better. He answers to his ruthless father and you feel for the guy.
