"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." -- Romans 8:1

Shame is an assault on the core of who we are. It assassinates our character, minimizes our worth, and dashes our hope. Like Adam and Eve, we often hide shame, but hiding never heals it. Left unattended, shame can develop into a crippling reality that paralyzes us. Like an infectious d

Denise’s book is a powerful tool to move beyond the shame of the past and into a new-found confidence and hope-filled future. The information and Biblical guidance shared in this book helped me to achieve new levels of freedom in my spiritual walk with God.

I am impressed with the insights shared in this book. Pass helps us see how shame is related to our self-worth and reminds us where our worth is really found. She shows how we must find the core root of our shame and then find a cure in Christ. She also shares the process of shame and how we can break the cycle of shame.

My favorite chapter in the book was the one on shame from the past. I learned a great deal about acceptance, forgiving myself, anger, failure to accept the reality of who I am in

This book speaks of the heartbreaking life Denise Pass has had to endure. She reveals truths to why we react with shame to not being accepted for example. She challenges readers to believe what God says about you instead of seeking approval from others. She explains why shame is rooted in fear of man, pride and insecurity which cause us to believe we're not good enough and to feel rejected. She says how you need to read the bible about what God says about you since His opinion is what matters mo ...more

I decided to read this book because I received a Kindle copy for free in exchange for my review. I didn't expect it to resonate with me as much as I did. Shame is so insidious; it nestles into the corners of my life and makes me feel like this is the new normal. I have to hide who I am because it is shameful. But what a lie this is! When God forgave me, He didn't do so grudgingly, with the intent to hold my wrongs over my head. So when I feel my past being held over my head, I can quickly recogn ...more
Denise Pass faced an avalanche of shame when her former husband sexually abused one of her children. She faced a difficult divorce, many court appearances, and a lack of support from her church. Through this harrowing situation, Denise turned to her faith in God to sustain her and help her find freedom from the stigma of shame.

Shame can be a heavy subject for a writer to address. But Denise handles it well, balancing the truth with self-effacing stories. She has a goofy sense of humor and often

I will begin by stating that the idea of not living in shame is great. However, this book is a far cry from what the title promises. I have three main issues with the book and I am just going to list them out and then explain each one.

1.) Ashamed vs. Shame
I found this book to be an egregious misuse of the English language as an effort to build a platform. Pass states that "Shame is an assault on the core of who we are. It assassinates our character, minimizes our worth, and dashes our hope."

Denise Pass has such a wonderful way of sharing her life’s stories and incorporating godly wisdom in her book, “Shame off you”. As a child that has faced similar trials and tribulations, we tend to carry shame long into our adult life. It is almost as if it becomes “normal” and that’s the lens we view ourselves and others through. I love the various scriptural references and stories that walks alongside her message of shame to show that this is something that many people in humanity have battled ...more

“Hidden things have a way of becoming found. Ready or not.” This quote has struck me like a bolt of lightening and continued to stay with me day in and day out through the pre-launch to the present. I met Denise late December early January of this year. She became our new worship leader at my church. She shared with us that she was writing a book titled “Shame Off You”. I saw an ad where I could preorder so, I thought I would be nice and supportive I and preordered two books. From then to now I ...more

In Shame Off You, author Denise Pass seeks to empower readers to live a shame-free life. Since reading Shame Off You, I’ve had moments in which I catch myself entertaining certain thoughts (usually something said by someone else) and realize that I don’t have to indulge the shame. Shame off me. I repeat it out loud and give myself permission to let it go. Shame Off You has helped me become more conscious of the shame and negativity floating in my mind.

This book was born out of an exremely painful period in Denise Pass's life and she has chosen to share her experiences and her journey so that others can benefit. As I read about the traumatic circumstances that touched her family I was sickened that she and her children suffered so much and felt so ashamed. This is a book about shame but it's not with a 'shame on you' mentality; instead, this author is instructing readers how to get rid of those feelings and get the 'shame off you'.

I am in awe of the author’s ability to be vulnerable and share her story in order to help and encourage others when dealing with their own version of shame. Her emotions are real and raw. Denise Pass openly shares her experience of shame when her ex-husband sexually abused their thirteen year old daughter. What made matters worse, was that she did not receive the support that she needed from her church during a time of turmoil and trauma.
Her story is guided deeply in Scripture. She writes about

How often do you think about shame and how it has affected you? If I had to guess, I’d say it’s not very often.

Why is that?

Because, as humans, we don’t like to think about shame. We sweep it under the rug or, worse, we deflect it on to someone else.

Shame Off You takes a critical look at shame and how to overcome it.

The word itself evokes emotions that often cause us to shy away. Shame can cause us to hide from others and ourselves. To what purpose? The devil is out to destroy us as Christians. W

Oh boy.

I had no idea who Denise Pass was before picking up this book. And, frankly, I wondered what story she had that prompted her writing it.

The answer came almost immediately. And it wasn’t what I expected…it was worse.

She knows, folks. Pass knows about shame. She lived it. She saw it. And she came to know the all-powerful, all-redeeming love of Jesus Christ amidst and in spite of it.

If you think your shame is too much, too big, for God to forgive, redeem, work through, or something else, rea

Be prepared to have your heart and mind opened and filled! The result will be a freshness and freedom you may be dying for.
Denise Pass writes with wisdom from her own experience and you are drawn in to hear (read) every word. As though she were with you at your kitchen table sharing coffee, her writing style is so personal and intimate that the reader quickly makes friends with their book. But Denise also writes with such Biblical wisdom that your soul is likewise edified. She shares scriptures

A Valuable Guide For Conquering Shame

Shame Off You: From Hiding to Healing, by Denise Pass, is an indispensable book for dealing with and conquering shame. Shame Off You gives me the hope and tools I need to overcome the stronghold of shame. I learned that shame is a much larger problem than most would like to admit. While its effects can seem debilitating, there is a way out. The way out is through Christ alone. Through Him, we have all we need to get past shame and move forward into hope and

Shame has been a part of my story for the majority of my adult life, but I didn't really know why or what the Bible had to say about it. I am so glad I picked up this book! Denise has helped me to see that I was trying to deal with my shame by filling my life with coping mechanisms instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to fill and heal me. Utilizing what Denise calls a "three-pronged biblical approach" consisting of truth, humility, and grace, I have now been able to identify the sources of my sha ...more

I hadn't read this author before but I'm glad I was able to read this book. She helps us recognize the many voices of shame that are all around us. She shares about shame in her own life. She shares how we don't often see the shame we are receiving or giving out. There are scriptures in the book to help one balance shame in light of the Truth and use the healing process from the darkness of shame, to help shed light into our own lives as well as others. We've all been exposed to shame at one tim ...more

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really appreciated the author's vulnerability and willingness to discuss the difficult situation of being married to someone who was then found to be sexually abusing their child. I am always thankful for Christians who are willing to take up the topics that are more "taboo" in society and the church. As much as I loved the way she counters lies with scriptural truth, I found the book to be a little repetitive. Overall, I wo

I am reviewing a copy of Shame Off You through Abongdon Press and Netgalley:

In this book we are reminded that shame is an assault of who we are at the very core. Shame is not something we are born with but in fact it is something we learn, and shame can stiffle our very existence.

We often experience shame due to trauma, something we can not help but yet sometimes we are made to f

I have read several books on this and similar topics this year as part of my focus on my word of the year, which is CONTENT--learning to be content with who I am, what I have, and all the circumstances of my life. However, this one has been the best read by far, resonating with me time and again, as well as giving me a lot of food for thought.

The author shares honestly about things in her own life that brought shame to her, as well as how God has taken that shame off her. She also shares Scriptu

I am a Pastor and worked personally with Denise. She is the real deal. This book is honest and raw and it opens the door for women (and men) to have conversations about the shame we carry in our lives. She outlines all the different types of shame, shares her humorous and difficult life experiences, and undergirds the whole book with Scripture. This book will be a means of healing to so many people. This would be a good book to use in a book club as well as for a church small group. It would als ...more

Do you deal with Shame?? Isn’t it time to be free??
That someone would be willing to open up and share this story show that healing can come to those who are hurt. We don’t have to stay in this place because God breaks shame off of us. When we begin to understand the enemy is the one who tries to keep us in the bondage of shame then we can begin to walk out of it and into freedom.

Don’t stay where you are! Allow God to heal your heart and take the Shame off. Maybe this is the book that will help

When I read the title of this book, I knew right away that this book would change my life and many others. Shame is a topic that can be difficult to address but Denise handles the topic so well and shares some powerful truths in this book. She says in the book that "We will never be set free from shame unless we are willing to face it head on." This is exactly what she did and is inspiring her readers to do the same.

This book was enlightening and refreshing. It addresses what most people, Christian or non-Christian at some point in their lives have to battle with, shame. It's a hard and lonely process and sometimes we just don't know how to handle or cope with it.

I truly believe this book will help guide many people on how to recognize the signs of shame, and how to cope with it, how to understand it and most importantly how to heal and recover from it. Shame can be traumatic, it can trigger intense anxiet

Do you have shame in your life? Must of us do. Shame caused from what others have done to us or from what we have done to others or even to ourselves. But God doesn't want us to live in shame. It's not of Him.

In this book Denise Pass shares openly and honestly the things that have brought shame to her and how God delivered her from that shame. Along the way she shares scripture that God has given her that helped her to get shame off her.

Have shame? Shame off you is possible!

“It has been said that what we think on, we are.” This is one of the many sentences that pierced my mind and heart while reading this book. Denise did an amazing job in balancing her own personal stories of shame and helping the reader to understand how to fight shame. This is a great book for anyone who has endured shame and needs to learn how to overcome it. Denise’s story is not a pretty one but her story and the scriptures she uses will inspire you to kick shame to the curb in your own life.

I love how Denise is not afraid to say everyone has shame; often we don't recognize it. I also love how she is not afraid to say hard things like how leaders in a church can produce shame in others. No one wants to admit the church can be a place of hurt! Thank you, Denise, for not being afraid to say hard things. Denise shares bits and pieces of her story in her book. My favorite part of her book is at the end of the chapter where she keeps a summary of your key takeaways! I love love love this ...more
