It was either switching the light off and getting through the following day wondering how The Darkest Corners would pan out or reading it through the night. I chose the latter and had no regrets over lost sleep. Left speechless, hopefully I’ll be able to put together a few coherent words for this page-turner of a psychological thriller which isn’t just gripping as it is heart-stopping. My advice. Don’t let this stand-alone s

Am I a fussy reader? I guess I am, especially when it comes to certain genres. Romantic Suspense is one of these genres. It has to be GOOD. Maybe it's because I have read some really GOOD RS books and when I see a book that has a lot of 5 star reviews, my expectations might be a little bit too high.

I guessed most of what was going to happen ... there might have been one "twist" that I did not see coming.

When I read RS, I want to feel like this ...

Due to surviving a life-changing event, budding artist Maxwell Grant hadn’t picked up a paint brush or engaged with another woman for the past four years. What had happened caused him to live in torture, but then a conflict of wills begins when he finds a journal belonging to Harriet Harper, a woman who attends his night school class.
Max battles with the idea of reading the journal or handing it back to Harriet, but his curiosity wins and what he reads has him so shocked that this woman has endu

I’m floored. I don’t quite know what to put in this review other than the fact that this book is marvelous.

I totally fell in love with the bundle of pink that is Poppy Grant. From the top of her curls to the bottom of her pink wellington boots.

The plot is so well put together, so perfectly crafted that it completely sucks you in. Every scene playing out in my head in techno colour then making me question the facts and the conclusions I had drawn.

Prepare yourself for this psychological thriller!

As the blurb says, Max is trying to survive losing his wife while he is raising his precocious daughter. He has mourned her now for nearly four years. His life has changed drastically. As a celebrated artist, painting was his life. Now, after losing his wife, he will not even allow himself to pick a pencil and doodle. The only way he can sleep at night for a few hours is by dulling his emotions with a bottle of whatever is handy. Mornings are real

This psychological suspense captivated and consumed me from the very first page. It is a dark, mysterious, angsty, and emotional read.

Intelligently written, the words flowed beautifully from page to page.

Maxwell Grant, single father and once a celebrated artist, hasn’t painted for some years. He has a dark secret that has left him tormented and broken. My heart ached for this tortured man, who lives with the guilt of an event which took place four years earlier.

Well-known artist, Maxwell Grant, spends his days with his young daughter and his nights teaching art classes. He hasn't painted anything since he lost his wife while in childbirth.

He's guilt-ridden and not the happiest of men ... until he meets one of his mature art students, Harriet. She's like a breath of fresh air .... and he's slowly coming alive again.

Finding a journal that Harriet left behind, he's discovering all kinds of things ... but can her written words be trusted?

The long awaited new release of Sydney Jamesson is finally here, and it's a psychological thriller!!!
Her style is enticing as ever from the very first page, with a depth to the characters you can easily identify with. My heartstrings immediately shredded when I read about the Father in the depths of despair, with the unconditional love of his precocious little girl being the only reason he hasn't drowned in alcohol and grief.
The plot is jam packed with suspense, grit and angst, as one has come t

Have you ever read a book and felt like you were left out, that there was something everyone else got and you were just left scratching your head. Well, this is one of those books for me.

The cover is gorgeous and the blurb had me salivating to read this book but what I read didn't even come close to my expectations or to the reactions of all the five star reviewers. I was meh for the first 75% of the book. It was slow and while not bad, not particularly compelling either. The book was

The Darkest Corners will have you staying up all night to finish the book.
Ms. Jamesson offers immense detail in the beginning, creating her characters that you are going to love and dislike.
I felt such heartbreak for Max and Poppy and was happy when Harry came into their lives. Once the twist and turns started to unfold I wasn't liking Harry much and thought there was some merit to Sam's cautions to Max. I was wrong!

This is a new to me author and I wasn’t sure what to expect. This story is billed as a psychological suspense novel which is quite different that the romantic suspense I typically read. I could feel the connection between the characters even thought it was a bit of slow burn. Max actually falls for the woman in the journal before he really knows the real Harriet. When he tracks down someone from her past will he be able to tell who is really the true person…the one from the journal or the one re ...more

This is my first read by this author and after reading this I wanna go and read the rest of her books as this was so so good.

I’m going to refrain from saying too much about the storyline. I really do feel you need to go into this blind.

Max and Harper are two brilliant main characters. I felt as if I was holding my breath so many times while reading this story. The twists and turns seemed to just keep on coming and had me in a tizzy.

This book didn’t just intrigue me, it drew me in. Just as I thought I knew where it was going – wham – it surprised me. You become so attached to the characters that you find you’re talking to the screen, one moment willing them on, the next begging them not to do something, before holding your breath and hoping the character you’ve fallen for hasn’t let you down, that you haven’t misjudged them. I had to read this in one sitting and couldn’t put it down until I finished it in the early hours of ...more

Sydney Jamesson is the master of enthralling character development. She spins a tale of a broken single father, Max, who has become a self imposed prisoner in his own home. Alcohol is his best friend. He has shut out the world, even his sweet and vivacious daughter Poppy. While begrudgingly teaching an adult art class he meets Harriet-someone who peaks his interest because of her colorful dress, quirky personality and her talent for art. Poppy is also drawn to Harriet. After Harriet leaves behin ...more

Admittedly, I have been a fan of Ms Jamesson's since I first read Touchstone For Play and with her newest novel my admiration for her work has only deepened.

5 Twisted, Whip-Lash, Epic Stars!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Max's past regrets have left him living life in the dark; feeling that he'll never see the light again. When the light begins to return, Max feels free. However, around the corner lurks dark secrets, and not all is as it seems.

Sydney Jamesson has written an excellent story, full of shocking, cleverly delivered, twists, that had me reeling with a whole mixture of emotions, as each twist, and secret, was uncovered

From the beginning it was like being on a massive rollercoaster ride. At first it started out slowly, gradually building up momentum. Then it was full speed all the way to the very end. Twists and turns, highs and lows. Every element of a stomach churning ride was there. By the end of it, I was breathless, and emotionally drained.
For Max and Harriet (Harry) the twists, the lies, the revelations just kept coming. Trying to figure this out was like being given one piece of a jigsaw at a t

This is my first book by this author and I am very impressed with her style. The main character Maxwell Grant is fascinating: complex and dark, wallowing in sadness. Whilst Harriet/Harry is a mystery right from the start; her personality brought out something from Maxwell and looks like she is able to lift up his spirits.

This romantic suspense presents the perfect backdrop for a complicated relationship that develops between two broken characters, Maxwell and Harry; the secondary characters are

I received this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I am very impressed with this psychological thriller! There were several twists, a couple that I guessed ahead of time, a couple that I didn't, and plenty of tension to go around. The main characters, Max and Harry, were completely flawed, yet still I found myself cheering for their happy ending. The villain in the story was totally contemptible, but was balanced by Poppy and Mary, who were perfectly lovely. Overall, it made my heart pound, left me g ...more

A story which keeps you hanging on with every word. Then when you have thought you figured things out another twist. A love story with all those twists along the way but also a daughter who loves her daddy and vice versa that nothing is enough for the other. You will never be able to put it down. It will make you cry and yell at different characters at the same time.

This story was everything! The twists, turns, romance and suspense left me swiping every page faster and faster.
I love that it is told from Max's POV. He's a widower with an adorable little girl named Poppy. He's guilt ridden, introvert and kind of miserable to be around. He begins teaching a class and meets "Harry" Harriet. Max is intrigued by her and can't help thinking about her more and more. They get to know each other and that's when things start to unravel.

Fans of Sydney Jamesson will be in for a surprise with her new release. The Darkest Corners is every bit the psychological thriller the title implies, but rest assured there is also a fair dose of romance to balance out the angst.

The story centers around Maxwell Grant, a fading star of the art world, whose life and work has been forever altered by the tragic death of his wife. He has spent years trying to eke out his life one day at a time, and begrudgingly agrees to teach a night school art cl

The Darkest Corners by Sydney Jamesson was my very first psychological suspense novel.
When I started it I was so excited because as a hopeless romantic I usually only read love stories but... well why not try something different, right?!
I'm sooo happy that I read Sydney's new book and I'm even more thankful that I got the chance to read it early.
So now that I finished it I'm totally speechless and have a huge crush on Max!
What have you done to me? I mean I can't even describe how I'm feeling..
