Sydney Jamesson is a USA Today bestselling author by night and an English teacher by day. She is nocturnal by nature and loves nothing more than staying up late, listening to music and being inspired to write. Her USA Today bestselling trilogy, THE STORY OF US sold worldwide, and she has been thrilled to continue Ayden Stone's and Beth Parker's epic love story in The Story of Us Series: Into the Blue, featuring Blue Genes, Blue Hearts and Blue Moon.

More recently, Sydney has focused on psychological suspense. THE DARKEST CORNERS was her first venture into the new genre: a complex love story filled with lots of angst, emotional scenes and edge of your seat suspense as a single father and a troubled young woman confront their deepest, darkest fears together. ‘There are three sides to every story: my side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently.’

Wow! If first impressions are anything to go by, then Sydney Jamesson has just become an automatic 1Click author for us! We were completely blown away by the uniqueness, the creativity, the depth and the vividly splendid writing in The Darkest Corners. Our first taste of this authors work certainly left a lasting impression, and so consumed were we with Max and Harriet’s intense and suspenseful relationship we had to put life on hold, unable to move until we finished the last word!

Sydney Jamesson’s writing in The Darkest Corners was quality, to say the least. There was a somewhat poetic brilliance to her prose that captivated us immediately! Phenomenal and oh so very clever, not to mention, it’s so rewarding to pick up a book and be surprised, to be constantly thrown and not pre-empt every twist. Yes, we saw some coming, yet others knocked us sideways!

‘Those haunting hours between dusk and dawn when I was left alone with my memories were the worst – a kind of living hell. I’d find myself calling out to her….’

We must stress this is first and foremost a psychological suspense, though it is woven around a complex and emotional love story of second chances, guilt, and secrets; of two damaged people attempting to shed their pasts. We weren’t sure what to expect from this story, but admit our expectations were most certainly surpassed in this smart, gripping, and compulsively addictive read. If you're a reader who needs romance in your story, you'll be satisfied with that element in The Darkest Corners.

‘I placed my hand on my heart and felt it steady and rhythmic against my hand. I knew what it was to have a broken heart…..’

We read The Darkest Corners with a constant nervous feeling; afraid to venture forward, timidly waiting for the masks to slip and reveal the secrets of the persona’s hidden beneath. We all wear masks to protect ourselves and the complexities in this story were haunting and potent, and most certainly kept us on our toes.

Maxwell Grant a singled Dad, crippled with grief following the loss of his wife, Hope, four years earlier. It is only the responsibility of his sweet and effervescent nearly four year old daughter, Poppy, that Max manages to pull himself out of a drink-induced hangover every morning to face the day. On a side note, we have to say, Poppy was one of the most fabulously written child characters we’ve ever read. This delightful little girl had age-specific dialogue and personality for her years. She was adorable, the relationship between the two is truly beautiful.

‘My wife was the rarest of creatures: a mixture of mind reader and muse. But, best of all, she was mine…’

Max is a talented and successful artist who hasn’t picked up a brush since Hope’s death. He’s riddled with guilt and is the shell of the man he once was. He teaches an adult art class each Tuesday night and it is there he meets Harriett ‘Harry’ Harper who changes his life in many ways.

Harriett is a troubled woman who is dealing with her own awful past and we learn this through her journal, which she leaves behind in class one day, only for Max to find it and delve into her frightening life before he met her. Harriet’s tragic past jolts Max, with the journal becoming a cathartic part of Max’s healing, he realises the assumptions he made about the outgoing Harriet were way off course.

‘Without even trying Harriet had caused a chain reaction.’

A friendship develops, and little by little their relationship advances, pulling Max back into the land of the living. But, is all as it seems? Well, just you hang in there because you are about to go on a quite the journey with Max and Harriet and trust us, your heart will be in your mouth most of the time as you guess and surmise how this heart-stopping and intense love story will play out.

‘Harry was raising me from the dead one limb at a time.’

We won’t say any more because you need to be surprised by this book. The unpredictability kept us on our toes, the emotional aching was felt deep within us as we ventured into the human frailty, with each word eliciting compassion as we uncover weaknesses and strengths of the characters involved. The relationship between father and daughter stole our hearts, it was truly heart melting stuff, and this, together with the emotion and suspense which emanated off the pages, kept us enthralled all the way through. Upon closing, we were left to reflect, dissect and discuss all that unfolded. Bravo, Sydney Jamesson what a deliciously thought-provoking story!

‘I did not want to think. I did not want to feel. I wanted to forget….’

5+++ Stars ~ Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse at KindleFriendsForever

It was either switching the light off and getting through the following day wondering how The Darkest Corners would pan out or reading it through the night. I chose the latter and had no regrets over lost sleep. Left speechless, hopefully I’ll be able to put together a few coherent words for this page-turner of a psychological thriller which isn’t just gripping as it is heart-stopping. My advice. Don’t let this stand-alone slip under your radar and starting it in the evening is at your own risk. Why, you might ask? This must-read that left me guessing throughout is deeply absorbing and the characters so complex, I felt as if my reasoning was being tested! In a nutshell, my thoughts were all over the place when I finished and I couldn’t have been more awake.

Ooh boy, did Maxwell Grant fool me or what! In fact, the sad part was he’d been torturing himself for four years. Successful artist and single dad, he’d lost his art mojo and hadn’t touched a paint brush since a traumatic happening caused a loss of interest in just about everything. Even his lively daughter couldn’t get him out of his slump. Then a finding piqued his curiosity. What he did with it I’d define as a tad stalkerish, invading the privacy of someone who seemed to me to be a victim, perhaps survivor would be a better word. Was I off the mark though? Well, what I read devastated me and although him intruding didn’t feel right, it was by no means malicious. And I was still no nearer the target.

I liked Max a hell of a lot, felt awfully sorry for him and in spite of the fact that he doubted his parenting which to my mind of thinking, was more than adequate, his relationship with Poppy simply melted my heart. An endearing child if ever there were one, her delightful quirks not only lightened up the story but also made me grin from ear-to-ear. The detail used in her persona is nothing less than outstanding. Poppy’s mannerisms; her giggles and chatter, her dress and footwear sense literally bowled me over.

Max’s best friend gave him a warning. He’d either have to stop being impertinent in art class and offer his students words of encouragement or lose his job. Making an effort to change his attitude was positive all round. There was a stirring of excitement in the classroom, I enjoyed his well-thought-out remarks, observing how his social skills improved and honestly thought Max’s life was taking a turn for the better. Wrong again! This would be the beginning of an emotional and painful rollercoaster ride of deceit, a loop of lies entwined in the darkest corners of betrayal.

Harriet/Harry Harper. Hmm...to the likes of me and definitely Max, she was that ray of sunshine missing, what he needed and been waiting for. But at times, pieces of her puzzling past didn’t quite ring true with me. That shouldn’t have been so because she gave me no cause to think otherwise. Perhaps it was me being too impatient since spending time trying to suss out plots is my thing. I have to say I had no problems connecting with this outgoing, attractive gal trying to get on in life. I felt she deserved the best; however, wait for the bombshell...the drop literally floored me. And get this. The least of the author’s intentions were letting her readers off easily and she complicated matters more with revelations I, for one, never saw coming! The cadence of the story changed its rhythm; had me sitting on the edge of my seat, figuratively speaking of course, and the incredibly visual narrative made me gasp into my pillow.

The author’s created superb characters, her storyline which is masterfully paced (skipping a sentence or two won't even cross your mind), is unique. Told in first-person past tense, you’ll be in for a surprize regarding the narrative, too. She's laid down a solid foundation in the first half a dozen chapters; hence, the lack of dialogue in them. It wasn’t missed at all, the rest of the book giving me enough to get myself totally lost in the players’ words. The further I got into the story, every layer revealed had more depth with even more intrigue, and I can't tell you how enthralled I was by it all. Therefore, I can safely say that this read is the best thriller I've read this year. And why I hadn't discovered Jamesson's writing before is beyond me. Bravo!

Am I a fussy reader? I guess I am, especially when it comes to certain genres. Romantic Suspense is one of these genres. It has to be GOOD. Maybe it's because I have read some really GOOD RS books and when I see a book that has a lot of 5 star reviews, my expectations might be a little bit too high.

I guessed most of what was going to happen ... there might have been one "twist" that I did not see coming.

When I read RS, I want to feel like this ...

... not like this ...

It started off well. The writing was good but it just fell totally flat for me.

I sure hope that my first read of 2019 is not an indication of the year to come ...

A place in Ireland was mentioned ... OK, authors have poetic license to "make up" names but any of the other places she used were "real" places. So I got excited when I saw "Dromore Woods" - I grew up in a small village in the West of Ireland. There was a place called Dromore Woods near a village, Ruan, about 8 miles from my place. Next thing she has these eleven year olds cycling, of a summer evening from LIMERICK, to Dromore Woods to visit and explore! As I said "poetic license" etc. but there is not way in fuck that you could cycle, as an eleven year old from Limerick to Dromore Woods on a summer evening ... I did because it was "down the road" from where I lived ...

Then again, I can be a cranky, critical (won't use the "c" word) girl at the best of times so that was another gripe with the book. Maybe it wasn't meant to be MY "Dromore Woods" but I don't think there is an actual place in Limerick with that name too.

Brought back the freedom we had as teenagers - during summer holidays, just hop on our bikes and off we were, exploring, for hours ... and it was all innocent fun, I can tell you - Catholic Ireland!

Due to surviving a life-changing event, budding artist Maxwell Grant hadn’t picked up a paint brush or engaged with another woman for the past four years. What had happened caused him to live in torture, but then a conflict of wills begins when he finds a journal belonging to Harriet Harper, a woman who attends his night school class.
Max battles with the idea of reading the journal or handing it back to Harriet, but his curiosity wins and what he reads has him so shocked that this woman has endured so much in her life. Getting close to her by the words written has him developing feelings for her, which could be a dangerous game. The one thing Max must do is make sure lines don’t get blurred and ensure that his 4-year-old daughter, Poppy is protected. When a dangerous character makes an appearance, it is a game of cat and mouse. Who is telling the truth and will Max be able to handle a very difficult situation he finds himself in?
Max is a very complex character and once I started peeling away his the layers, I found myself being drawn to him and his wretchedness. The relationship he has with his daughter was a very sweet and Poppy is a very cute little pink princess. She clearly loves her daddy to bits and also she seems to connect to Harriet which was really endearing. Harriet was very hard to read. I was quite intrigued by this mysterious woman and desperate to see where this was all going to lead to.
The writing throughout was exquisite and I couldn’t put this book down. Also, I urged a book buddy to catch up with me as I needed to speak to somebody about this story. The twists and turns had me gasping and saying oh my goodness through most of the chapters. I would read a part and think I knew where it was leading to only to be thrown of course and discover it was something I never saw coming. The suspense is so thrilling, and I found myself shouting at my kindle as if I was in some sort of car crash that was going in slow motion. I couldn’t believe some of the choices Max was making and all the time I kept thinking about the effect his actions would have on Poppy.
Even if you have never dipped your toe in this genre. I would highly recommend that you do. Personally, I love psychological suspense stories, and nobody will be disappointed with this story, especially if your heart melts at a single father with such a cute daughter who will touch your heart from the first page of their interaction. To sum up; heartfelt, dramatic, scary and romantic, I haven’t stopped thinking about The Darkest Corners since I closed on the last chapter.

I’m floored. I don’t quite know what to put in this review other than the fact that this book is marvelous.

I totally fell in love with the bundle of pink that is Poppy Grant. From the top of her curls to the bottom of her pink wellington boots.

The plot is so well put together, so perfectly crafted that it completely sucks you in. Every scene playing out in my head in techno colour then making me question the facts and the conclusions I had drawn.

Max Grant, one time artist, one time husband is lost but his one little ray of hope is his beautiful Poppy.

Purple loving Harriet appears in their lives and sad Max starts to live and smile again.

Pieces of the puzzle are released along the way but the final picture is blurred until it comes hurtling at you and smashes you in the face.

The suspense, the shock, the wow! That’s why I’m floored.

FULL REVIEW SOON. (after the holiday rush is over and sanity settles in once again!)

Prepare yourself for this psychological thriller!

As the blurb says, Max is trying to survive losing his wife while he is raising his precocious daughter. He has mourned her now for nearly four years. His life has changed drastically. As a celebrated artist, painting was his life. Now, after losing his wife, he will not even allow himself to pick a pencil and doodle. The only way he can sleep at night for a few hours is by dulling his emotions with a bottle of whatever is handy. Mornings are really lunchtime by the time he gets up. He has the classic signs of depression and cannot find his way out of this darkness.

Meeting Harper changes his life. She is a student in his adult class at the local university. At least he can try to teach others what he can no longer do. Together, they create a connection that slowly brings light to his life, while also opening his eyes to how much his 3-year old daughter Poppy needs him. Now he is ready to look at his world with new eyes. He is willing to dare entertain loving a woman again.

All this sounds very run of the mill and with plenty of angst. But what if reality is hiding below the surface? What about the guilt that Max feels goes deeper than from just the loss of his wife? What about Harper? Is she all she seems to be? What happens when Max finally decides to discover what is truly real in order to protect Poppy and himself? Is he really ready to face all this reality he has been hiding from?

Absolutely amazing plotline you will not easily forget. Prepare your mind to discover what hides in the darkest corners of his mind.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.

This psychological suspense captivated and consumed me from the very first page. It is a dark, mysterious, angsty, and emotional read.

Intelligently written, the words flowed beautifully from page to page.

Maxwell Grant, single father and once a celebrated artist, hasn’t painted for some years. He has a dark secret that has left him tormented and broken. My heart ached for this tortured man, who lives with the guilt of an event which took place four years earlier.

I was totally captivated by this flawlessly written, consuming story and could feel Max’s anguish and despair as he became lost in his memories, recalling the tormenting years leading up to his present, sad life.

Poppy, Max’s three year old daughter, is such a spritely, adorable little girl who melted my heart. The love and adoration she has for her father is unconditional, and whilst Max may think he is failing as a father, he couldn’t be more wrong. The bond between Max and Poppy is strong and truly beautiful. There were so many father and daughter moments in this story which really tugged at my heartstrings and made me fall more in love with this tortured man.

Art student Harriet Harper has had a sad and tragic past, of which we learn about from a journal she leaves behind after her first evening art class run by Max. The relationship that develops between Harry, Max and Poppy will warm your heart. But who is this unassuming and beautiful young woman with a penchant for purple dresses, who draws Max out of the darkness he has been engulfed in for the last four years, and makes him start to feel again?

A brilliant read with twists and turns along the way which will leave you questioning ... what is the truth?

One of my absolute favourite reads of 2018! 5+ stars!

Well-known artist, Maxwell Grant, spends his days with his young daughter and his nights teaching art classes. He hasn't painted anything since he lost his wife while in childbirth.

He's guilt-ridden and not the happiest of men ... until he meets one of his mature art students, Harriet. She's like a breath of fresh air .... and he's slowly coming alive again.

Finding a journal that Harriet left behind, he's discovering all kinds of things ... but can her written words be trusted?

When a dangerous character from Harriet’s past appears, events take a turn for the worse and he must say and do whatever necessary to save his sanity and, more importantly, his four year old daughter, Poppy.

Everyone has secrets ... and some secrets should never see the light of day.

Riveting from the very first, I was held in thrall as the plot bounced back between Max's past and Harriet's past. The reader hears Max's voice and Harriet's written words. Throw in a character from the past only raises the suspense. The characters are solid, but the one who took my heart is Poppy. Three years old, bright, funny, and she absolutely loves the color pink from the top of her head to her Wellington boots. Twists and turns are apparent from the beginning to the very unexpected ending.

Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The long awaited new release of Sydney Jamesson is finally here, and it's a psychological thriller!!!
Her style is enticing as ever from the very first page, with a depth to the characters you can easily identify with. My heartstrings immediately shredded when I read about the Father in the depths of despair, with the unconditional love of his precocious little girl being the only reason he hasn't drowned in alcohol and grief.
The plot is jam packed with suspense, grit and angst, as one has come to expect from Sydney's work, with so many unexpected twists and turns I was gripped to the very end.
This little gem will be one I go back to again and again.... bravo Sydney!

Have you ever read a book and felt like you were left out, that there was something everyone else got and you were just left scratching your head. Well, this is one of those books for me.

The cover is gorgeous and the blurb had me salivating to read this book but what I read didn't even come close to my expectations or to the reactions of all the five star reviewers. I was meh for the first 75% of the book. It was slow and while not bad, not particularly compelling either. The book was billed as a romantic suspense/psychological thriller, which is my jam but this lacked the tension, depth, and build up I expect of the genre. The plot was loose and the characters lackluster.

Once the book kicked into gear around 75%, I had high hopes, only to be left with my mouth on the floor, not in awe but more like that's it, that's all we get. Unfortunately for me, this went from meh to awful pretty quickly. I know this opinion doesn't match those of 99% of the other readers, so take this review as you will. Obviously, I didn't get what others did.

The Darkest Corners will have you staying up all night to finish the book.
Ms. Jamesson offers immense detail in the beginning, creating her characters that you are going to love and dislike.
I felt such heartbreak for Max and Poppy and was happy when Harry came into their lives. Once the twist and turns started to unfold I wasn't liking Harry much and thought there was some merit to Sam's cautions to Max. I was wrong!
Poppy is definitely loved by everyone. The bond she had with Harry was very special and I figured it out early on when learning of Harry's health issues. Then Sam twists it again, you're hanging off the edge of the boat thinking you are going to sink and can't read fast enough. Please enjoy this book and if you haven't read Ms. Jamesson's trilogy The Story of Us, you must, it is spectacular!

This is a new to me author and I wasn’t sure what to expect. This story is billed as a psychological suspense novel which is quite different that the romantic suspense I typically read. I could feel the connection between the characters even thought it was a bit of slow burn. Max actually falls for the woman in the journal before he really knows the real Harriet. When he tracks down someone from her past will he be able to tell who is really the true person…the one from the journal or the one revealed by her past acquaintance?

Personally, I was intrigued by the journal entries, but the analyzing that Max did seemed to slow down the story for me. I would have preferred the first 85% to move faster. Also it was written in British English and so some terms were hard for me to understand.

This is my first read by this author and after reading this I wanna go and read the rest of her books as this was so so good.

I’m going to refrain from saying too much about the storyline. I really do feel you need to go into this blind.

Max and Harper are two brilliant main characters. I felt as if I was holding my breath so many times while reading this story. The twists and turns seemed to just keep on coming and had me in a tizzy.

The Darkest Corners is a really well told story with a brilliant unpredictable storyline. I was literally gripped from start to finish. A book that kept me awake until the early hours but so worth it.

I absolutely loved this story. I’m so looking forward to reading more from this author.

This book didn’t just intrigue me, it drew me in. Just as I thought I knew where it was going – wham – it surprised me. You become so attached to the characters that you find you’re talking to the screen, one moment willing them on, the next begging them not to do something, before holding your breath and hoping the character you’ve fallen for hasn’t let you down, that you haven’t misjudged them. I had to read this in one sitting and couldn’t put it down until I finished it in the early hours of the following morning, gripped by the story in front of me.

This is a five-star rollercoaster of emotions, twists, and turns. Hold onto your seat as the ride is about to become hairy.

Sydney Jamesson is the master of enthralling character development. She spins a tale of a broken single father, Max, who has become a self imposed prisoner in his own home. Alcohol is his best friend. He has shut out the world, even his sweet and vivacious daughter Poppy. While begrudgingly teaching an adult art class he meets Harriet-someone who peaks his interest because of her colorful dress, quirky personality and her talent for art. Poppy is also drawn to Harriet. After Harriet leaves behind her personal journal, Max doesn’t return it but delves into her very horrific past and becomes obsessed. Wanting to help her Max immerses himself trying to find the truth. But is everything as it seems? Secrets, lies and another party enters the tale....who is telling the truth? Sydney puts you inside of each character and has you questioning everything!

Intense, Emotional and Suspenseful

The Darkest Corners
captivated me from the outset, and kept me intrigued until the final word. Sydney Jamesson's writing is simply flawless, her storytelling spellbinding. Admittedly, I have been a fan of Ms Jamesson's since I first read Touchstone For Play and with her newest novel my admiration for her work has only deepened.

Maxwell Grant is a single father to three year old Poppy. Once happily married and with a successful career as an artist, his life was turned upside down and inside out by an event four year earlier. He is now a man tormented by the past and struggling to live in the present. he is consumed by guilt and emotionally broken. The only good thing in his life is Poppy, a little girl who idolises her daddy. She will simply melt your heart, with her love of pink and her constant drawings of how she sees her life. Max, however, feels as though he is a failure when it comes to being a father, but that is so far from the truth. Max also teaches Art at night, at the local university, here he meets a woman who will change his life.

Harriet "Harry" Harper has had a devastating past - one that the reader is privy to through a journal that she has written. Is what she has written the truth or has she embellished her past? Harry is drawn to both Max and Poppy, and watching the relationship grow and blossom was heartwarming. Harry has enabled to Max to begin to emerge from the guilt and sadness of his life, she has given him something to strive for. But does Harry have an ulterior motive for her friendship with Max? Is she really just playing a game with him?

Ms Jamesson has produced an absolute masterpiece, with its numerous layers that need to be continually peeled back. It is an intriguing read that with have her reader permanently transfixed by every word. Your heart will weep for Max, but it will also be elated with how Max is able to turn his life around. There are numerous twists and turns within this story, that will have you second guessing Harry and the story that she tells, especially when someone from her past returns.

This book was absolutely amazing. Definitely one of my top ten reads for 2018.

5 Twisted, Whip-Lash, Epic Stars!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Max's past regrets have left him living life in the dark; feeling that he'll never see the light again. When the light begins to return, Max feels free. However, around the corner lurks dark secrets, and not all is as it seems.

Sydney Jamesson has written an excellent story, full of shocking, cleverly delivered, twists, that had me reeling with a whole mixture of emotions, as each twist, and secret, was uncovered. This is the first book I've read from Sydney; however, it will not be my last. I love the way she writes, holding you captive in the story from the very beginning, and the emotions, she stirs from us, the reader, towards her characters.

The Darkest Corners starts with great detail, the pace seems slow moving at first, however, it soon becomes clear that this story held so much depth, you needed the finer details, and each emotion, and trait, of the characters, to fully enjoy and understand the twists this story inevitably takes. And, WOW, does this story deliver a crazy, dark, twisted, heart stopping climax, questioning everything, you thought you knew about the characters.

This psychological suspense story is an amazing read. If you enjoy stories with a dark edge, full of twists, and a romance element, The Darkest Corners is for you, and will not disappoint.

Fantastic

From the beginning it was like being on a massive rollercoaster ride. At first it started out slowly, gradually building up momentum. Then it was full speed all the way to the very end. Twists and turns, highs and lows. Every element of a stomach churning ride was there. By the end of it, I was breathless, and emotionally drained.
For Max and Harriet (Harry) the twists, the lies, the revelations just kept coming. Trying to figure this out was like being given one piece of a jigsaw at a time. Figuring out how every clue slotted it and where, was not easy.
Sydney Jamesson's style of writing is immaculate. Each and every scene is described in such a way, that you can easily picture it all in your mind. I could feel, not only the emotion, but the cold dampness of the weather. Everything was described with utter perfection.
I love this author's style of writing and this book was a joy to read. As much as I tried to savour it, I couldn't. Like the meals conjured up by Mary, I had no choice but to devour it.

This is my first book by this author and I am very impressed with her style. The main character Maxwell Grant is fascinating: complex and dark, wallowing in sadness. Whilst Harriet/Harry is a mystery right from the start; her personality brought out something from Maxwell and looks like she is able to lift up his spirits.

This romantic suspense presents the perfect backdrop for a complicated relationship that develops between two broken characters, Maxwell and Harry; the secondary characters are as fascinating as the main "heroes". I might have guessed some of the surprise twists in the plot but there was one detail which I never predicted and it will blow your socks away. I am not going to give out a lot of details because I would like the reader to experience that element of surprise and shock.

A definite must read if you are a fan of romantic mysteries with a hint of darkness. It will pull you in and grab your attention. If you can only read one book from this genre this year this is it! I highly recommend this book.

I received this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. I am very impressed with this psychological thriller! There were several twists, a couple that I guessed ahead of time, a couple that I didn't, and plenty of tension to go around. The main characters, Max and Harry, were completely flawed, yet still I found myself cheering for their happy ending. The villain in the story was totally contemptible, but was balanced by Poppy and Mary, who were perfectly lovely. Overall, it made my heart pound, left me guessing a few times, and I was thoroughly pleased with the ending.

The book for me had a slow build up but once it got going I was very intrigued and invested as each part of the plot twists were revealed. It’s hard to review as I don’t want to give anything anyway. But overall I enjoyed the book and would read more from this author

A story which keeps you hanging on with every word. Then when you have thought you figured things out another twist. A love story with all those twists along the way but also a daughter who loves her daddy and vice versa that nothing is enough for the other. You will never be able to put it down. It will make you cry and yell at different characters at the same time.

Wonderful!

This story was everything! The twists, turns, romance and suspense left me swiping every page faster and faster.
I love that it is told from Max's POV. He's a widower with an adorable little girl named Poppy. He's guilt ridden, introvert and kind of miserable to be around. He begins teaching a class and meets "Harry" Harriet. Max is intrigued by her and can't help thinking about her more and more. They get to know each other and that's when things start to unravel.
I love how this is written. It's beautifully described and haunting heartbreaking. I love the baby steps that Max takes to grow and evolve. I can't give anything away but this will keep you guessing as to what happened and the ending is epic!
I want to thank the author, Sydney, and Goodreads for the giveaway and for selecting me to read this amazing book. Please pick this up, you will not be disappointed!

Fans of Sydney Jamesson will be in for a surprise with her new release. The Darkest Corners is every bit the psychological thriller the title implies, but rest assured there is also a fair dose of romance to balance out the angst.

The story centers around Maxwell Grant, a fading star of the art world, whose life and work has been forever altered by the tragic death of his wife. He has spent years trying to eke out his life one day at a time, and begrudgingly agrees to teach a night school art class. Having closed himself off from the world, Max struggles to make a real connection with his new students. He’s tempted to walk away from it all, but hangs on for the sake of his young daughter, Poppy, who has been deprived of a normal childhood. When Poppy makes a fast friend in art student, Harriet Harper, Max can’t help but notice the warm and considerate woman.

One night, Harriet leaves her journal behind in the classroom and Max is lured by the temptation to take it home. When he reads the pages, he learns the woman’s deepest secrets. Max finds himself distracted from the woes of his own life by becoming obsessed with Harriet’s troubled past. Desperate to connect with another soul and determined to find out all he can about his new friend, Max inadvertently draws the wrong kind of attention to himself, Harriet, and Poppy.

The mystery and story arc of The Darkest Corners is well-constructed and written, with many surprising twists and turns. I quickly found myself drawn into Max and Harriet’s stories. Although the novel contains plenty of dark moments, I was constantly filled with the hope that Max would find the happiness that had eluded him.

I admired many aspects of this story. All of the characters were richly drawn and complex. Some of my favorite moments took place between Max and his daughter, Poppy, especially after he recommits himself to becoming a more present father to his smart and bubbly preschooler. The cast of secondary characters add an intriguing weight to the novel and enrich the overall plot. I was reading several books along with The Darkest Corners and found myself thinking about this story more than the others. This is a great read for those who enjoy suspense, and I gladly recommend this book to anyone looking for a bit of excitement in their next read.

The Darkest Corners by Sydney Jamesson was my very first psychological suspense novel. While reading I cried some I need to tell you. My heart broke for Max, then Poppy and of course for Harry.

This new book from Sydney Jameson is very different from her beloved other Series. This is a story of a struggling single dad, spiced with mystery, twisted suspense and love. It is dark, gritty, sexy, twisted but also very realistic.
Painter Maxwell Grant has a secret. A secret that nobody knows, a secret that he carries so deep inside not even admitting to himself, a secret that paralyze him to pick up a paint brush much less to have a relationship with a women. And mostly not having the strength to be a dad and being in the deep of neglecting his three year old daughter Poppy.

Harriet Harper is a new student in Max night class. One night she leaves her journal behind, and from this moment everything changes for Max and ...

With an amazing writing style, the darkness, the mystery is embedded in the story. The emotions, the angst the depth and the development of the characters is a pull that makes you want to continue reading.
The mystery is so well planned that you can’t guess it. Loved the development of the characters, the dependence on each other, the hunger for ...

This is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars book you absolutely must read.

I received an ARC copy for an honest and voluntary review.

I have waited ages for this author to release a book! Having loved her writing & the unforgettable Touchstone series I eagerly jumped in after reading the blurb... right from the start I knew this book was going to be an emotional rollercoaster. Two characters who have both suffered life changing events called out to my heart. Just when you think the book is about the two characters venturing on a new journey of self discovery and waiting for them to find their HEA in each other a massive plot twist comes right out of left field knocking you on your
ass!

From that very point I questioned everything. As twist after twist after twist was revealed I was left in a false state of security I was caught unawares! I love when authors can do this , have you question every move, every comment , everybody!

Told from Max’s POV , the book took a steady pace in the beginning, I felt it was a little slow. But as the story continued you realise it is necessary for the web of lies and deceit to take credence, for the doubt to set in!

Bravo Sydney! Well worth the wait !!
