My life is no fairy tale, but it's grim.

A twisted affair ruined my career and reputation. The loss of my beloved uncle wrecked my heart. All I have left is an old house in a coastal Maine town crawling with secrets.

Then a mysterious, reclusive man offers me a long as I don't ask him any questions or go poking my nose where it doesn't belong.

Strange? Yes. Tempting?

THE SECRET THIEF is an adult contemporary standalone written by the talented Nina Lane. Over the last several years I have read almost every one of her books and am one of her biggest fans. This story

When I first came to Castille, I’d thought I was running away. But now, my body and soul reawakened, my intellect inspired, my heart open… maybe all along, I was simply coming home.

What a perfectly swoony and incredibly written treat this book was. Having never read a Nina Lane book before, I had no idea what to expect. And now I'm seriously kicking myself for waiting so long to experience this talented author. The Secret Thief was a beautifully crafted tale that kept me riv

Please let me take a moment to fully appreciate this masterpiece I just finished reading. I knew Nina Lane was about to deliver something different, and I knew it would be amazing too. “You are my favorite fairytale.”

I think I’ve pretty much read everything by Nina Lane, since I’m obsessed with her Spiral of Bliss series. But this one was different. The Secret Thief is a contemporary romance with fairytale feels. Eve Perrin is a professor who because of unfair circumstances, moves to a small town in Maine. There she meets a reclusive keeper of the lighthouse, Riley Flynn.

This was such a sweet read and I enjoyed the fairytale topics woven into the story. I found mysel

I have been a huge fan of Nina Lane's books but The Secret Thief in all honesty is the best book she has written to date!! I was consumed. It was so beautifully written and felt like a fairytale in itself: whimsical, ethereal and poetic. This story was filled to the brim with secrets, romance, heartfelt passion and heartstopping thrills that kept you on your toes. The Secret Thief is a fairy tale kind of romance with a Nina Lane kind of twist that was built on raw emotions and secrets. As secrets begins to get unraveled, readers will be captivated and drawn to the chemistry, romance, and the raw emotions that Nina Lane is known for. With her fantastic and heartfelt writing, Lane has captured romance with her poetic prose and intriguing characters. A beautiful fairy tale romance indeed!

The Secret Thief is now my favorite fairy tale. Nina Lane has outdone herself by gifting me, her fans, and all lovers of romance an incredible story brimming with desire, love, sorrow, and joy. An emotional plot that had my heart bursting as I experienced this couple's beautiful journey to love, as well as anxious to unearth all secrets and deceptions. As always, Lane managed to touch my soul through her eloquent prose, as she created a fantastical world that consumed me. Once I stepped

This could have been great, with the fairy tales background, the lone hero, the troubled heroine running from a past mistake, their potent chemistry but man, the author laid it on plaster thick with the abuse and trash talk piled on the heroine.
The verbal and mental abuse from her mother was so fucking ridiculous, it was a villain caricature. Maybe if this has been an isolated incident or toned down I would have believed the heroine predicament but seriously nothing was holding her from telling

This is the first book I have read by Nina Lane and hand on my heart I can say it definitely won't be the last either. As always with a new to me author I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, however I had no need to worry because I was instantly hooked after only one chapter.

When Art Professor Eve Perrin is ousted from her job at UCLA she is heartbroken, not just because of the job but because the incident that caused it all was all turned on her as if it was her fault, Eve was belittled and her

Just wow …. I opened this book to read and didn’t stop until the last page. I was edgy and anxious the entire time. It isn’t an angst driven story, but there are secrets running amok with both Eve and Flynn! Add in the sexy slow burn journey between the two and I just couldn’t stop reading. I needed to know more than I needed to sleep!

Okay, so Eve Perrin comes to be a resident of Castille when her uncle left her his estate in his will when he passed on. Perfect timing because Eve needed a new

I really enjoyed this and glad to see the author is back to her best as I didn't enjoy her 'Sweet Series' which didn't feel like her writing.

Flynn is a sweet hero with some slight alpha male tendencies. He's a mystery, being a loner and hiding out at the lighthouse. I liked that we didn't get his POV. Eve has had a bad time of it so moves to Maine to start again. I liked all the fairytale references. I was intrigued to find out what secret Flynn was keeping and the bit of mystery to the story bu

Eve and Flynn are damaged people and they are both a little broken when we first meet them. I love books that start like this, because you know immediately that you ste going to get a story that not only builds in a romantic relationship but also one that tells the human story.

The romance tied in with the human story is exactly what you get here. I was immediately drawn in. The author doesn't tell you everything about the characters, she drops li

Nina Lane has not disappointed me. I continue to love her books and this was no exception.
Five amazing stars.

I’ve always been tempted to pick up Nina Lane’s Spiral of Bliss series, but my commitmentphobe brain had doubts (who needs five books, plus a few novellas to tell a contemporary romance story?) so on a whim, I snagged The Secret Thief instead, and man was I glad I did! Lane is a fantastic author, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

I almost don’t want to say anything about the novel itself, because it was so good, I feel it’s best you go into it blind. Easily one of

First of all, I must say that I didn't bother to read the blurb of the book when I requested to review it. I just saw the author's name and went for it. What can I say? I like her books. The title led me to believe that the book belonged in the paranormal genre and I was a little thrown off when I realized that the book I was reading was just "normal". That is my fault and I know it, but I had to say it. That was the reason I couldn't completely connect with the story and I wasn't overly excited ...more

Purchase The Secret Thief

Eve lands herself in the small town of Castille when she lost everything, including her dignity and self-worth. She used to have a great, dreamy job as one of the youngest professors in UCLA teaching students what she loved best. When the scandal erupted, no one cared if she’s one of the best in her field - instead, everything that she worked hard for, went down the bin for what she did. No one believed her.

The Secret Thief is sensational. Nina Lane proves once again just how prolific a writer she continues to be, stepping into the world of romantic suspense like a veteran. The way she combines the most beautiful of love stories with an underlying mystery is beyond perfect. It wasn't hard to be swept away by the unlikely tale of the art historian and the lighthouse keeper. In fact much like the sea that surrounds the small town of Castille, Maine flows in and out, I was able to take a little piece ...more

The Secret Thief is a true gem of a book. Whenever Nina Lane has a new book coming out, I am always quick to add it to my reading list, however, once I began reading this book, I knew that I was in for something extra special.

Right from the get-go, I was completely captivated by the story and the characters. The Secret Thief is a contemporary romance at its heart, but it was also incredibly enchanting, whimsical, suspenseful, and passionate. Everything about this story was well-develop

Honestly I've been lately having trouble with the covers of these romance books. They don't really speak to me. And what is it now with just putting a bared chest guy and throwing a cool font in a cover... Is that a real reflection of the story you're going to read?

I wasn't convinced at all to give this book a try, but you know what? Is Nina Lane, putting that aside, she is just good. She crafts great stories full of knowledge about anything. She knows how to give a character a great personality

What an intriguing and captivating story Nina Lane has given us in The Secret Thief.

I wouldn’t classify this book as a romantic suspense story, but there is quite a bit of mystery surrounding the characters. From the beginning you know that they are hiding things and have some big secrets, but that is what will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages. You will WANT to know all the secrets!!

I so very nearly didn't select this book for review, because of the synopsis.  But, it's Nina Lane.  So I did.  I'll let you into a secret.  It was a good choice.

Once again, Ms Lane has knocked it out of the park.  The narrative voice is very poetic but in a way that completely works with and underlines the development of the relationship.

Once again, it is difficult to find something to criticise about this story.  The protagonists are three dimensional with a thread of sexual tension betwee

This was a decent read. I guess with the title I was thinking something else. However, I did like it anyways. It was nice for both Flynn and Eve to be together. They both had dark secrets and pasts that they were trying to overcome. So, it was nice for them to have each other and move on. Of course the best part was that they got their HEA.
