Love love loved this whole series. My only complaint is that I want more, which seems from the author's note like it could be a possibility at some point down the line? I'll cross my fingers and hope they at least pop up in the background of the spinoff volumes, which I'm also eager to read.
I was expecting some drama about their separation while Yosuke was living in New York, and the cover blurb misleadingly teases that, but the reality is that all the problems get ironed out and talked through before Yosuke leaves. Because he and Arimura are actually super good at communicating, even when it's a struggle to put all their vulnerabilities on display.
The thing I really love about this series is that Yosuke and Arimura both definitely have - and don't try to hide - their selfish sides and imperfections, and that's treated as an important part of their story. They're aware of the danger points in their relationships, and in their own attitudes, and work hard to ensure that they're always staying on the same page, as much as possible.
Arimura has a fantastic scene where he's quietly watching his parents gardening together, openly displaying their love, and winds up asking his dad how it's possible to make a marriage like that work. His dad's advice is what gives these volumes their title: when you love someone, you make an effort to see things from their point of view, and over time, it actually changes how you see the world.
The author's note goes into this in a bit more detail, and I think it's absolutely beautifully said (the writing in this series is so sharp and thoughtful and good):
It then goes into a little bit of chatter about the spinoff character (Hozumi), but that description definitely also applies to the main couple's families. I think Arimura's family has been slowly shifting into acceptance of his relationship, even though his sister's the only one who technically knows - there are some strong hints near the end that his parents suspect, since he's already told them he has a partner he wants to spend his life with, and then told them he's moving in with Yosuke...
Yosuke, at least, thinks they have to have guessed, and he's mentally working himself up for the inevitable conversation, where Arimura will introduce him as his boyfriend and life partner - since they're sharing a home and intend to do so permanently. Arimura's made his intentions on that front clear, to both his family and to Yosuke, although he kept the details vague with the former - out of respect for the partner who has to be consulted on the actual reveal.
Unfortunately, we don't get that reveal in this volume, and it's the one thing I would've absolutely loved to see. We do get lots of wonderful mushy honeymoon stuff, which is great. I just really, really loved Arimura's family and how well they'd all gotten along with and liked Yosuke, so it would've been fantastic to see him actually folded into that family for good. He deserves it, and it's something that I think would alleviate any lingering concerns/guilt he has about taking Arimura away from a traditional path. (He and Arimura talk about all that and resolve it, with promises to keep reassuring each other for the rest of their lives, but Yosuke's the type of person who would still worry just a little bit about Arimura's parents resenting him.)
I don't think Arimura has any worries on that front. In fact, it's made quite clear that he's been ready for a while to come out to his loved ones, but he's respecting the fact that Yosuke is not nearly as close with his parents - who'd disowned his older brother for breaking away from the family, and who exert even more control over Yosuke as a result. (Apparently the brother visited Yosuke in New York, which I wish we'd gotten to see. Did he tell his brother about Arimura? What's their dynamic like?) I'm not sure if Yosuke would ever be comfortable bringing his parents into that part of his life, but it's a hurdle Arimura will gladly face with him when/if it comes.
I love how patient Arimura is, despite the passion and frustration roiling around under the surface, and how he really did wait 2.5 years for Yosuke to come back to him. He definitely didn't want Yosuke to go, but he knew that Yosuke was only holding out for fear of losing him...so he removed that burden and anchored in his trust that they'd be okay no matter how much time they spent apart.
Interestingly, it seems like Yosuke might've been fairly open about his relationship, at least to some extent - his coworker/roommate in New York knew he had "a lover," and Yosuke kept a photo of himself with Arimura on pretty plain display in his room.
I would've liked to see more of what Arimura's support system was like while Yosuke was away - they video chatted (and had video sex) frequently, but they never actually saw each other in person until Yosuke was able to come back home. Hozumi teases Yosuke about having seen what Arimura was up to during that time, but we don't actually get to witness any of that on the page - probably because it doesn't really matter, because there isn't the slightest concern that either of them was anything but utterly faithful to each other during those years.
But they would've desperately missed each other, of course, and I would've gladly read another 200+ pages of that stage in their lives. Arimura had Hozumi, I suppose, but also his sister and Matsu - whom I love, and who seems to have spent something like 4 years gradually trying to woo Nana (and finally succeeding??).
The reunion was worth it, though, and I appreciate that instead of falling into a bunch of drama and breakup talk or any of those messes, this volume is basically just a marriage proposal and a honeymoon. And I loved every bit of it.

As much as I was looking forward to finishing this series, this final volume was pretty underwhelming. I've never liked these stories in which the main characters are separated for years and their time apart is condensed into a few pages that show none of their struggles with being apart. The tension and drama that began in the first volume amounted to pretty much nothing, and I'm just ready to move on to the spin-off series, Love Nest. Hozumi is definitely a more interesting character than either Yousuke or Arimura. 2.5 stars

Okay, there were some things that would've been explored a bit more (like the whole jealousy thing) but I still liked it. And there was the scene where Ikuo told Yosuke to do what he wanted, which I liked. But awwh I wanted to see the scene when they come out to Ikuo's parents...!
I liked the twist with Hozumi, it made his actions much less random. He's actually pretty interesting character, and I will be definitely reading the spin-off about him (Love Nest), it's kinda like Secret XXX and Therapy Game, how a side character is actually the most interesting of them all.

Endlich bin ich auch mal dazu gekommen Change World zu beenden! Es ist bekannt, dass ich ja ein Fan von Yuu Minadukis Zeichenstil bin ❤️ Band 1 von Change World konnte mich von der Geschichte nicht so richtig abholen. Ich war bisschen verwirrt und irgendwie hat er mich nicht so zu 100% abgeholt. Aber das Ende war wirklich super süß! Hier wurde mit so viel Feingefühl erklärt, was es heißt eine Beziehung zu führen. Darauf lag auch der Fokus nicht auf die Charaktere und ihre Entwicklung. Ich fand es ziemlich erfrischend und es war eine Abwechslung. Ich kann den Zweiteiler echt jedem empfehlen. Besonder diejenigen, die sich nichts aus Sexszenen machen 😊

Really cute, I liked seeing the growth of them as they actually face trials and tribulations in their relationship but deal with it like grown adults. Tbh though, the highlight for me is Hozumi. I love the little shit goblin so much. Excuse me while I go reread Love Nest vol 1 because I just got my hands on vol 2.

When Yusuke is offered an overseas assignment, he’s forced to confront the uncertainty of a three-year long-distance relationship with Arimura. With Hozumi stirring the pot as always, their bond is put to the test. Another great volume; Yosuke and Arimura remain utterly charming.

Non siamo ai livelli eccelsi di "Sayonara Game", però devo dire che anche questo sequel mi è piaciuto parecchio. Il tratto del disegno è uno dei miei preferiti, e poi adoro quei due disperati dei protagonisti.
È passato un anno dagli eventi di "Sayonara Game": Yousuke e il suo adorato senpai Arimura stanno insieme, anche se il tempo per vedersi è sempre poco, per via dei rispettivi impegni lavorativi. In "Change World" entrambi vengono messi di fronte alle loro paure, grazie all'entrata in scena di un terzo personaggio - ex compagno di università di Arimura e collega di Yousuke, catalizzatore di tutte le loro ansie.
Arimura deve combattere con la sua gelosia e con la sua possessività; Yousuke si porta dentro un profondo senso di colpa, la paura di aver allontanato l'amato senpai dalla vita giusta per lui (ergo, sposato con una bella moglie e con dei figli), da una vita meno complicata e meno soggetta a pregiudizi. Questi due sentimenti contrastanti rischiano di creare un cortocircuito e di mandare in pezzi il loro rapporto.
Cosa fare per rimanere insieme per sempre con la persona che si ama? Questa è la domanda che si pone Arimura e, come gli fa notare il padre, "bisogna guardare lo stesso passaggio". Bisogna imparare a conoscersi e a comprendersi, bisogna essere onesti l'uno con l'altra, bisogna saper comunicare, bisogna prendere coscienza dei propri sentimenti. L'ansia e la paura non devono prendere il sopravvento. A dispetto dei timori di Yousuke, il senpai è convinto dei suoi sentimenti, non si è minimamente pentito della scelta fatta; solo che ci sono momenti in cui la gelosia e la possessività la fanno da padrone. Yousuke è dolcissimo, già il solo fatto di poter stare con Arimura lo rende incredibilmente felice. Cosa chiedere di più? Ha davvero il diritto di chiedere di più? Lui passa attraverso un processo di crescita molto interessante: prima si sarebbe fatto schiacciare dal senso di colpa e avrebbe rinunciato al suo amore, ma ora non ha alcuna intenzione di mollare e di tirarsi indietro. Anzi, a dirla tutta, nessuno dei due ha intenzione di cedere. Ecco perché il rapporto ne esce più forte, ecco perché resistono a due anni e mezzo di separazione per il trasferimento di Yousuke a New York. Quello che all'inizio era un bel sentimento ma ancora fragile e insicuro, si trasforma in qualcosa di più profondo e consapevole.
Due parole sulla figura che fa partire il momento angst e che (forse suo malgrado) favorisce questa evoluzione del rapporto tra i due protagonisti: Masato Hozumi sa come stuzzicare la gente, sa scovare i loro punti deboli e usarli contro di loro. In passato ha provato ad avere una relazione con un uomo etero e non è finita molto bene. Conosce Arimura fin dai tempi dell'università, conosce il suo modo di fare da donnaiolo e la sua tendenza a preoccuparsi solo del presente. Percepisce subito il senso di colpa che attanaglia Yousuke, le sue ansie. E così decide di creare un po' di scompiglio. Peccato che, a dispetto di un primo momento di difficoltà, i due interessati non abbiano alcuna intenzione di rinunciare all'altro. Anzi. Si può quasi dire che, grazie alla sua intromissione, i nostri due pisquani hanno preso piena consapevolezza dei loro sentimenti e del loro desiderio di continuare insieme. Quindi, grazie. E spero pure che si trovi un bell'omino a cui dedicare tutto se stesso. L'unica cosa che mi ha lasciata perplessa è che tutto questo piano che mette in piedi mi sembra un po' estemporaneo e il livello di angst raggiunto non è poi così sconvolgente, ma ce lo faremo andare bene.
Ho adorato le comparsate della famiglia di Arimura e di Matsu, l'amico cuoco di Yousuke che gli insegna a cucinare (pure i peperoni verdi, che il ragazzo detesta, ma che sono il piatto preferito del fidanzato). Peraltro in questo volume non mancano le scene esplicite, quindi, se non gradite, lasciate perdere. Invece la serie è consigliatissima per chi ha amato "Sayonara Game". Prossima fermata: "Love Nest"!

Me encanta Matsu. Espero que Lovenest sea sobre él (aunque ahora creo que va a ser sobre Hozumi porque Matsu parece asentado con Nana).
Me parece bastante horrible el pensamiento de Hozumi y las ideas que les mete en la cabeza. Eso de que porque también le gusten las chicas a Arimura va a decidir irse con una y dejarle a él porque es más fácil, y que no confíen en que estar con Yosuke es lo que Arimura quiere de verdad solo por no ser gay... Muy bifobo de tu parte, Hozumi. Aaaaunque te puedo perdonar porque supongo que tienes traumita con eso. Al final te he cogido cariño y todo.
YOSUKE ES MONÍSIMO. Me encanta, las caras que pone y cuando dice lo feliz que está por estar con Arimura. Me derrito.

This is kind of my review for both volumes in this series (although the first volume was better). I definitely enjoyed Change World more than it’s prequel, partially because it felt like there was a bit more substance to this continuation. This series focused more on the ‘gay for you’ trope, and the idea that some people don’t really believe bisexuality is a thing because a person will always do what it easier over what is harder. It’s a plot point that has been done 100’s of times in yaoi, but it always helps to make the right amount of conflict for a good story. At the end of the day, we got our happy ending and a bunch of sexy times, so the angst goes away and everything is all good by the end of the story.

Just like with the second volume, I fell in love with the cover design of this third volume too. Oh my God, Itou-kun is so handsome! How can there be a character who is so shimmering and splendid like this, very breathtaking.
Okay, back to the plot. In this third volume, all conflicts are resolved well through good communication ... yes, whatever your problem is, it can certainly be solved if we can communicate well. The power of communication!
Although there is a little twist, it was actually quite predictable from the hints given in the second volume, so when everything was revealed, I wasn't too surprised.
I like this manga series, even though it wasn't overly impressive to me, I still liked it. I hope the spin-off will be just as good.

Although there is a little twist, it was actually quite predictable from the hints given in the second volume, so when everything was revealed, I wasn't too surprised.
I like this manga series, even though it wasn't overly impressive to me, I still liked it. I hope the spin-off will be just as good.

Most certainly another great book by Yuu. I love how the relationship develops in this volume. What I love most is that the relationship and developing story is treated like a romance instead of how some Yaoi manga make the relationship seem experimental. Like it’s not a real relationship. I really felt the story and the explicit scenes made it all the more real and intoxicating (in a good way of course). I’m certainly hooked on Yuu’s work and I can’t wait to read more! 1000% ❤️

This series just doesn't really spark anything for me. It's not bad or anything. Change World is better than Sayonara Game and it has cute moments, but it's just not for me. I am excited for Love Nest though and reading Hoizumi's story. He's an interesting character, even if he is a little annoying.

This was a great finale. The romance is so sweet and I don't mind that the two of them harbor jealousy toward each other. Masato was annoying, though. I know why he's added, but man. Yosuke and Arimura don't need any more meddling!

The sexy scenes were great. The plot was kind lacking in my opinion. Just very slice of life which is sometimes my cup of tea if I’m in the right mood. Not terrible not sure I’d necessarily recommend tho

This ending was everything I wanted and more for Yosuke and Arimura. The feelings realization combined with a good wrap up of all the loose ends as far as the other characters go was wonderful. I can’t wait to read the spin off when I get a chance.

because of how the first volume ended I had to love straight on to this one! it’s not coming out til June and I couldn’t wait that long! I have preordered it anyway - I love them so much!
