I love sports, I love romance, so of course I thought, I’ll love this too since it sounds like it has both. Well, it does, and some more. It’s about two lost individuals who struggle to find their home, to find their peace, and to find the ground beneath their feet.
This review is hard to write. Why?? Because there is so much I can say. But...... I can’t give anything away. There is a lot that happens in this story. It’s a slow burn, it’s a hard love, it’s a story that surprises you at many turns, and it’s a sad story with an amazing ending where two broken souls finally get the happiness they both so deserve.
I wish we could have seen more to the revenge, payback to certain individuals in the end (thats my needy side), but knowing that Memphis and Olivia won and came out on top with each other, is enough for me.

This standalone sports romance had a very bleak and depressing feel to it. While I really liked the Hero, I found it hard to warm up to the Heroine and I guess I wasn’t in the mood for yet another story about two unfortunate souls who weren’t blessed with loving and nurturing families. While Ginger Scott is a gifted writer and I did enjoy parts of this story and I found Memphis’s character to be endearing, there were things about the story that didn’t gel for me. The twist in the plot was one of them. I didn’t see the need to take the story in that direction and neither did it enhance my reading experience.
I’ll end this review with what I liked about the story. I really did like Memphis as the Hero. No matter what challenges life threw his way, he was determined to live a decent life and honor the memory of a father he never got the chance to know before he passed on. He had a huge heart and I enjoyed all the scenes between him and Miles, the homeless war veteran that Memphis would check up on from time to time. The romance was sweet and mildly steamy.
I’m sure devoted Ginger Scott fans will enjoy this one. It just wasn’t my favorite by this author and I think I need to be in the mood to read a book with such a depressing backdrop and overall feel.

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books
I love Ginger Scott. There are many reasons why.
One - she writes the best heroes. They are always good to the bone, kind, romantic, smart and special.
Two - her heroines are always strong, resilient and with their heart in the right place. You might not love them right from the beginning but you always come to love them.
Three - her extraordinary story lines that grip and captivate you and don't let loose until you read THE END.
Four - she has this amazing talent - not only is her writing just beautiful she also knows how to start a story and you are smack dab in the middle of it. Her words have this way of pulling you in from the moment you open the book.
I could continue my praise for a while but let me get down to business now.
Liv's story is unbelievably tragic. Her family is a piece of work. Utter scum. Her mother is a psychopath out of the book, her dad a former boxing champion now tied to the bed after a stroke. Her uncle a thieving bastard. And that's the place she has to go back to out of necessity. Who knew that something good would come out of going back to the place she couldn't wait to leave.
Liv never wanted to tie herself to a fighter, seeing how the whole boxing business poisoned her family. She didn't see Memphis coming. A talented fighter, a man as beautiful as ambitious and driven and with a heart of gold. He is focused, doesn't need distractions while preparing for the fight that might change everything in his life. so he didn't see Liv coming either. Memphis shows her that if she wants love in her life she has to let go of the hate and slowly she disentangles herself from the unhealthy environment and her past. Liv is too broken, too suspicious and a little too prickly to love her from the start but give her a chance and you'll fall in love with her.
“You need to promise me that you won’t break me”
She tries so hard to resist him, is suspicious of every good thing coming her way but he tears down that sturdy fortress around her with his kindness, honesty and sweetness. Memphis and Olivia are made for each other. They have a lovely friendship they build on and while both of them feel the strong pull they don't give into their attraction. Olivia, because of her doubts and Memphis because he is just such a wonderful man and never pushes her beyond her limits. He holds her heart in his hands, gently, tenderly, always careful not to break it. Memphis is a fighter and he fights for his love. His soul is pure.
"I will wait for you to really know who I am, Liv. I’m confident in the man I am. I’m not those men upstairs who disappointed you, but I understand your guard. And I will wait until you believe I won’t break that promise. Breaking you, Liv, would be one of the biggest regrets of my life. And I just don’t do regrets.”
There is a side character that also stole my heart. I was beyond pleased that these three lost souls found one another and had a chance at something so beautiful (because you never know which way it goes with Ms. Scott). Miles is everything. How he teased Memphis and poked fun at him was hilarious. To call Liv's mother a mother is an offense to every good mother out there. She is a despicable snake with nothing but her own advantage on her mind. Hate is a strong word but boy, did I hate her.
I love the realism in Ginger's books. This toxic family could be your neighbors. Heck, they probably are.
MEMPHIS has more steam than every other book I've read by this author and if you ask me she can continue doing that. That one sex scene was, sexy, hot and she built up to it until you just wanted to shout "Oh my god, DO IT ALREADY!" It wasn't overly explicit but tastefully done, erotic and beautiful, with a lot of feeling.
"I want you because when I touch you I feel it in every square inch of my body."
If you need any more reasons to read this book scroll up and read the first paragraph again. Memphis definitely is one of my highlights this year. It is so Ginger Scott, yet so different too. It's a wonderful story about making peace with the fact that you can't change your upbringing and blood family, about the growth that comes when you let go of the hate and move past it. Ms. Scott teaches a lesson:
"Lost souls find each other sometimes."

The plot
This book is about Olivia, who is the daughter of a legendary boxer and Memphis, who is the boxer having his training in her father's gym.
Olivia never had a happy family. Her parents were awful.
Having had enough of the toxic environment around her family, Olivia runs away from home and she chooses a wrong person to fall in love with and he leads her life to a different hell.
Penniless and devastated, Olivia now comes back home to pick up the pieces of her life. There, he meets their new fighter Memphis.
There is an instant attraction between Memphis and Olivia. Although Olivia swore she would never become her mother and she would never fall for a fighter, she sees that Memphis is different from his father, the drunk and the cheater.
Eventually, she trusts Memphis and everything falls into its place.

Slow burn, little angst, no chasing, no banter, no tension, no steam
There is not any angst between Olivia and Memphis. They slowly fall for each other and that's all.
There is no OW/OM drama.
There is no cheating. It is totally safe.
The only drama and the mild angst in the book stem from the doings of the family members of Olivia.
There is no separation between the couple.

Why didn't I enjoy this book?
Olivia and Memphis are totally likable characters. The plot of the book is not bad, either. However, the way it is written is boring as hell.
I couldn't get into the story. Something was off...
I cannot quite put my finger on it but I can definitely say that the book didn't make me feel anything (other than boredom).
I never felt the strong chemistry between them that the writer mentions throughout the pages.
The dialogues are scarce and the inner monologues highly outweigh the dialogues between the characters.
All in all, I can say that my problem with this book lies in its story-telling; it just wasn't engaging enough for me.

This book was amazing! I loved every minute of it. It hooked me from the first page and never let me go.
Memphis was a great character. It's so refreshing to read about a boxer that's not a manwhore, actually he's the opposite of that. He's such a nice guy, with a heart of gold. I fell in love with him so hard! He works hard for what he wants but never steps on others to get there. When he falls in love he does so with all his being. He's such a gentleman too! I loved that so much about him.
"I will wait for you to really know who I am, Liv. I’m confident in the man I am. I’m not those men upstairs who disappointed you, but I understand your guard. And I will wait until you believe I won’t break that promise. Breaking you, Liv, would be one of the biggest regrets of my life. And I just don’t do regrets.”
Olivia has had a tough life. Her parents are not the most loving and see her as a commodity. Her dad was a famous boxer that everyone loved, but she knows the truth behind the man. She went through a horrible relationship were she ended up losing everything, and that's how she ends up back again living with her uncle and working at the family gym. When she meets Memphis she feels attracted to him but is resilient to let him in. I understand where she's coming from and I liked that their relationship took its time to mature. This is a slow burn book but it was so nice seeing them fall in love and finally trust each other at a slower pace. I truly believe they are soul mates and was rooting for them all along, so when they finally got together I was so happy!
Overall this was a great book about love, loyalty, new beginnings and finding your way in life. I highly recommend it to all romance readers.

Overall Opinion: I'm bummed with this one. I felt like it was a little too much inner dialogue, and not enough interaction. While I really did enjoy the characters themselves, I didn't fully feel their connection to each other. I know that I usually need to feel the connection well for a low steam book to work for me, but sadly I didn't get that here and it felt lacking in the steam department as well. Don't even get me started on that epilogue! What was that?! I liked the side character whose POV it was told in, but I wanted more closure with the mc's relationship instead! I'm so tired of sounding like a broken record with the lack of good closure in books, so I'll just say I was disappointed 😕
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Olivia and Memphis's story. They meet when Olivia reluctantly returns home after her world gets turned upside down. Memphis is training under her uncle as a fighter in her family's gym. She has seen the ugly side of loving a fighter first hand with her mother so she is not interested in following in her footsteps, but the pull towards one another is too strong to fight. There are some big secrets revealed, some family drama, and some sweet moments...and they get a HFN ending.
POV: This alternated between Olivia and Memphis's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good until the ending. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

H rating: 4.5 stars. Memphis. I really liked him! He was a great combination of sweet, protective, and hot!
h rating: 4 stars. Olivia. I liked her. She was pretty strong considering all she had been through.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Heat level: Mild. They have one scene -- so it is pretty low on the heat.

Closure: This was another book that I felt completely ripped off with the ending! The epilogue was told in a side-character's POV, and while I liked that character I felt like it wasn't enough! I would call this a HFN ending .

I have been in love with Ginger Scott's books since I read her first first back in the year 2015. Ever since then, I have read all her books and have read them again and again and again. I love a good sports romance so it isn't a surprise that I love the fact her books. There is always have an element of sports blended into her stories.
Memphis was quintessential Ginger Scott. Perfect blend of sports and romance.
Even so, Memphis was a surprise, I'll be honest here and say that when I think Ginger Scott books, I think "baseball, basketball, football romance" NOT boxing...But she did it! Memphis is unmistakably palpable!
The characters in this book are written so well... You either love 'em or hate 'em.
Olivia is brilliant, resilient and strong.
Memphis is hardworking, diligent and loyal.
Their chemistry is insanely angsty...almost a slow burn kind of romance but when they do finally get together.. geez!!! HOT!!! I mean we are talking about a boxer here, Ladies hahahaha
Memphis is a beautiful love story about love, family drama, tragedy and dreams.

As I read on, not only did her anger and bitterness make sense, but I was even starting to sympathize with her. In fact, it was a bit mind blowing that she was able to come from that home life and mature into the woman she became. Already feeling depressed and lost, it didn't help that her mother's poison was injected back into her on a daily basis. It was a game of who could cut the deepest between these two, and Liv was powerless to resist the urge to draw blood. Not that you could blame her for that weakness. That woman had to be one of the worst viperous
Olivia wants nothing to do with the fighter being trained by her mother and uncle at their gym. His talent and single-minded drive to succeed in the ring reminds her of how her father used to be in his glory days. When he selfishly rode his wave of fame, and had little time to be a true father or husband. But it's hard to ignore Memphis' true heart. After being surrounded so long by malice, he gave her a safe place to just be. To start to heal.
Each experience with him weaves itself into my heart in this way that terrifies me. This is how people lose themselves.
Oh, my. He was such a beautiful man inside and out.

Memphis has had no one to call family his whole life. He's a bit of a loner, but humble, and his ambitions aren't powered by greed like they were with Archie Valentine. That in itself was commendable considering how little he's had materially his whole life. He simply wanted to honor the memory of his father he never got to know. He eat, sleeps, and breathes boxing, and his only friend is a man who lives on the streets and lays his head under a tree at night. As he and Olivia carefully allow each other in, secrets from their pasts will become tangled and threaten to tear their futures apart.
I loved the bond between Liv, Memphis, and Miles. The way they found the love of a real family together warmed my heart and made me smile so big. The epilogue especially was the sweetest touch, and the perfect ending to the trials they all had to overcome.
His mouth—his skin and hair and chin. His breath and eyes. It’s invaded me. But that part he let me see inside—his character—that’s what inspires me most. Memphis Delaney is rare. He also might be worth it.
I also enjoyed that Liv took the time to build trust in her new relationship before making any impulsive mistakes. And Memphis was patiently waiting for her with open arms whenever she needed someone to keep her demons at bay. He stood beside her in her corner, ready to defend her with his last breath. This was another great read by Ginger Scott. I've been a big fan of her writing for quite a while now, and with every book, she creates new characters that are so endearing and memorable. There are great writers and there are great storytellers, but unfortunately in the indie romance market, you don't often find both at once. And that's precisely why I salivate over Ginger Scott's books. She tells a story like Memphis, a gritty, complicated, romantic story that completely sweeps you away in it's intensity, but she does so with words that are so luxurious, so emotional, so vivid, they literally take my breath away. I get lost in her books, in her words, in every bit of dialogue, in every description, in every bit of heartache, every touch and breath and smirk, every kiss. I get lost in all of it. And in Memphis, I never wanted to be found.
The sweet romance between Memphis and Liv is this beautiful budding thing growing in the middle of a whole lot of ugliness. Liv's family, their secrets and their slimy ways... it all just felt so icky, such a sharp contrast to the adorably heartwarming dynamic growing between these characters. It felt like snakes were closing in though, like something was going to come out or something would inevitably pull the rug out from under Liv and Memphis, characters who so clearly deserved happiness after all they'd been through in their lives. I both longed to see what would happen next and dreaded what was to come. I was gripped. I was anxious. I read with warmth in my heart and knots in my stomach the whole way through.
I love a good sports romance but I've found that too often an author will call her character an athlete but you never actually see him in his element. You're just meant to believe he's a baseball player or a fighter or a quarterback because the author says so. That's not Ginger Scott though. She's written several books surrounding athletes and she nails is every time. Watching Memphis Delaney in his element is an integral part of getting to know him, understanding him, falling for his character. Every punch, every black eye, every piece of tape on his hands drew me in to his story, ensuring I was wholly connected to his journey as a boxer. And standing outside the ring watching him spar, as we do with Liv, is a pivotal part of connecting with her as well, coming to understand how the sport has made her who she is and why she's so reluctant to repeat the toxic dynamic of her parents. You can't help but fall in love with Memphis in this book because Ginger Scott gives you so much of him, you'll fall without thinking about it. But you'll fall just as hard for Liv because her struggle with becoming a fighter's girl, being his distraction, his hurdle, his inspiration, is as complicated as it is understandable. I felt all of it. I felt everything. And I absolutely loved it.

And can we just stop her so I can fill you in on how perfect he is?!! God, his body, his face, his words. Absolutely a top book boyfriend for me 😍😍!!

Memphis is a fighter romance about getting back up no matter how many times life knocks you down. After her ex-husband is convicted in a Ponzi scheme, Olivia Valentine finds herself right back at the one place she tried so hard to run away from. The Valentine family is anything but welcoming and while her return home may be only temporary, Olivia can't stop herself from wanting to know more about Memphis Delaney, a fighter who trains at her family's gym. Sparks fly and although she may have been reluctant at first, Olivia slowly starts falling for Memphis. But when the past comes to light, what ends up being revealed may just break these two apart.
I had no idea what to expect when I picked up Ginger Scott's latest release but it's been a long ass time since I last read a fighter romance so I was excited to see what Scott was serving up. Memphis is a romance with layers. It starts off slow and the thing is, I went into this book expecting a very simple romance, but I was totally thrown for a loop. I don't want to give too much away because the plot-twist is just too good to be spoiled for but holy hell what a twist! I did not see this story taking that kind of turn and Ginger Scott did an amazing job at bringing this story full circle.
Liv's family wins the award for being ONE OF THE WORST FICTIONAL FAMILY I've ever read about. I don't think there is even a word to describe how much hatred I feel for them but they truly are worst than scum. All their actions, their lies, their snakish ways made my blood boil because how can one be so cruel to their own flesh and blood? They are not redeemable in anyway and they deserved so much worse than what they got.
Memphis Delaney stole my heart! He's been knocked down a few times but he always gets back in the ring. I think what surprised me most about Memphis was his laid-back personality. I thought he would have a lot of built up aggression considering his back story, but he is so kind and willing to help those in need. Memphis is by far my favorite hero by Ginger Scott has written to date! Although Olivia might not want to admit it, she definitely has some fighter instincts in her. She may be rough around the edges, but there is a softness to her and Memphis helps to bring that part out. The romance is a slow-burning one which is understandable since Liv is so hell-bent on not following in her mother's footsteps by falling in love with a fighter. It's ironic because all these two ever wanted was a place to call home and they managed to find that in each other.
The epilogue absolutely gutted me. It was told from a POV that wasn't Memphis or Liv's and I wasn't expecting that but it was beautiful! I CRIED ALL THE TEARS AND I COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER WAY TO END THIS STORY!
I don't think I've said this before but Ginger Scott is truly an amazing writer and if you haven't read one of her books yet then what are you waiting for?! Her ability to turn what would seem like a simple romance into something so much more is a gift and I can't wait to see what type of romance Scott brings us next!

Before anything, I'd like to say that Ginger Scott is one helluva writer. There is no doubt about it. And I say that because I've read a lot of her books before I started this blog, and You and Everything After is one of my most favorite books. And for a very good reason. So if you haven't read that, I really recommend you do.
But having said that, I couldn't connect with Memphis for some reason. I can't decide if it was the story itself that was disconnected or if it was me just being cranky because of the broken leg recently put in a cast. But whatever the reasons were, I did not like this book right now. May be I will at some other time tho, who knows.
Memphis is centered around the daughter of a boxing legend- Olivia/Liv, who had run from her family 7 years ago, only to be chased back to them after some shit happens. After she comes to a house filled with contempt for her, she runs into her family's star fighter- Memphis- an orphan that took to boxing to fulfill his dead father's wish. A father he'd never met.
From there on a lot of things come to the light, and Liv and Memphis fall in love and bla bla bla, and honestly, not to be rude, but I kind of zoned out. Can you zone out reading a book? Because I did with this one after I realized that the tone of the book and the emotions the characters were portraying were in complete discordance. It felt as if the author was floundering to give this story a direction, and was just not able to grasp at that thread that would've brought the book together.
Or like I said, maybe I'm just grumpy and complaining about nothing.
Who knows.
But one thing was obviously clear- Scott is a brilliant writer, and the only reason I hung around for as long as I did was because of that. And even I cannot deny that, even as cranky as I am.

4 The Underdog Stars
Ginger Scott is known for her NA sports theme romance book with dramatic plots and heavy characters and Memphis is no different.
I love a good underdog kind of read. You have two characters, Olivia and Memphis. Olivia has a mega chip on her shoulders. She’s crawling back to her old town with her tail between her legs. Things didn’t turn out the way she expected and all she’s looking to do is save enough cash to leave again.
Olivia is a tough cookie and I guess you kind of have to be when you grew up in a dysfunctional family. I liked her most of the time but there are moments she was just a bit too strong for me. I get the tough girl act, but she can come across kind of rude, she is at least no wallflower that is for sure.
I did like Olivia’s story though. You feel for the girl and you wonder why she has such a horrible relationship with her family and it’s a big point of the book. Almost everything revolves around her and her family.
I love Memphis and adore him. I love everything about him, from where he came from, his name and I even imagine him as the guy on the cover and that hardly happens. I love a good underdog story and I was just rooting for Memphis to make it big. He has two cents to his name and endless drive. He doesn’t want to win for the glory, but because he loves the sport and don’t you love that?
Olivia and Memphis relationship was filled with tension. Memphis attraction towards Olivia is what drove the story for me. I loved reading about him and how he pursed Olivia. The best part of the book is the slow relationship they build and I love the character development. I wasn’t just thrown into the story. I got a lot of background and character interaction. The book felt very organic and real.
I enjoyed the secondary characters, the coach, the mom and the uncle. They added a little tension to the book and it kind of drove how Olivia and Memphis felt for each other (just a tiny bit).
Overall, Memphis is a heartwarming story about second chances, redemption and striving to succeed.

This book was a little upsetting in some parts due to Olivia's family. I did not like them at all.

This latest offering Scott tells the story of two broken souls fighting to maintain their senses of self in the only ways they know best. Each with their guards up for different reasons and not at all searching for each other, they find a kinship through the dysfunctional family that brings them together in the sport of boxing.

I'm grateful for the time I spent with Memphis and Liv and think sports romance readers will fall in love with their story.

Memphis is a raw, unfiltered gritty intense love story between two strangers whose connection was palpable from the start. Ginger Scott sweeps readers away with her heartfelt and poignant prose that was very much realistic giving readers a better understanding of the characters. This book is an example of Ginger Scott’s unwavering attention to details as she treats us all to an underdog love story. Without spoiling the book, I will just say Memphis will steal your hearts as his sweet and protective nature is a champion itself. So if you are ready to get lost in a story that was devastatingly beautiful and intense then I highly recommend you to read this sports romance novel.

Ginger Scott is one my favorite writers because her words are brilliant. I love her characters, noble and honorable, and I love her stories, usually comebacks. Memphis is both, and I enjoyed this story immensely.
Memphis, I have come to find, is the typical Scott hero. He is so honorable, like down to his soul. From the way he talks to his actions, he just radiates goodness, and like so many that came before him I just want to soak up his energy. It is no wonder Olivia gravitates to him, and the two villainous antagonists cling to him. You just can feel that he is destined for something great.
Olivia is most certainly down on her luck, and readers will sympathize with her. With her past and issues with her family, it is no wonder she has found herself in the situation she is in. Even with all that weighs on her, she is a good person, and we see that with the use of a secondary character. I love how fiercely protective she becomes over Memphis and that there are no lengths she won’t go for him.
Memphis and Olivia’s story is sweet. It is really more about finding home and a person who will love you and support you, and they find this with each other. It is not a story riddled with angst or drama, as the focus is on the two of them and Memphis’s rise to the top, and it makes this story a delightful experience.
So why he 4 crowns? It just didn’t captivate me like her other novels, and really that is it. It is well written (I honestly don’t know if she can write a bad novel), the characters are great, and their story is well placed and enjoyable. I just wanted to wrapped up in their world, and that didn’t happen, for me, until the end. I would whole-heartedly, though recommend Memphis and any of the Ginger Scott book. You really won’t be disappointed.

I can always count on Ginger Scott to deliver a highly emotional read with a storyline that has so many layers of depth. Memphis was no exception.
Liv is scarred. She has been betrayed by everyone she knows including her family. She doesn't trust people. So when she is forced to move back home, she is not prepared for Memphis and the pull they seem to have to each other.
These characters connected so well with each other. I did take 1 star off because I didn't quite get some of the dialogue. I thought the banter might have been a tad awkward at times. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose and some people might find this endearing. Regardless, these were complex characters that complemented each other.
Memphis had a heart of gold. His drive to be champion was not for money or fame. I loved that he found happiness in non tangible things and his compassion was so admirable. When it came to defending Olivia though, the alpha male in him came out. He tried so hard to prove to Liv that he was not like her father. He wouldn't break her the way his father broke her mother.
There was so much more to this story than I expected. As the book progressed, so many new revelations came to light. This story is slow paced but in a good way that kept it interesting. This is a great emotional fighter romance filed with heart that you should definitely try.

This is the kind of story I wanted to read. Ginger Scott took me by surprise with Memphis, I couldn’t put it down, definitely more than a fighter story, a story that proves the past is not something that defines you, not the ugliness of a family abuse will rule your life.
Once again, the author pushes the limit, to shake the readers, to give hope and so much love.
When it’s hard, you just have to find a way to come home.
Every book Ginger Scott writes, I read. From the first book, she has this ability to tell stories that will sweep you off your feet. No matter what world or stories, she is just one amazing storyteller, about some tortured characters, the kind of scorching, tough and raw stories, that would make you feel. Memphis was no exception.
I read it in one sitting, I was captivated by Memphis and Olivia’s story. When Olivia was running away from her legacy, Memphis was trying to get one, a better future. The timing wouldn’t be worse but the moment they met, there was this connection, both trying to fight it firsthand.
The author showed perfectly the beauty behind this sport, as the ugly in the background, the sacrifices they had to made. It was fascinating, absorbing, and I was totally hooked on their journey. They just took my breath away.
Memphis Delaney you stole my heart for sure. Olivia was a badass, someone who built so many walls, drown into her family’s drama and dysfunctional and abusive family. Two tormented souls who have found each other in the darkness. Their world is cruel, their people are abusive, and together they could stand against the world, where a future could be brighter, far away from the monsters.
It was emotional for sure, the drama was I had to say all kind of overwhelming and heavy at times, but it was written with such heart, passion and the magic was operating, showing that the darkness would come to an end when you took a chance and let someone to fight for you, to give your heart in return. It was definitely more than a fighter story, it gave us hope for the ones who had lost so much, to give you strength to fight back, to hold on no matter what.
I lost count about how many times my heart broke, they were both trying to survive, from the shadows of their past, deep scars, this turmoil of emotion that consumed them badly. But when they were together, the struggle was more bearable, soothing and mostly hope for something better. In spite of all the hardships they’d have to overcome, it was worth the journey, worth everything.

Nobody writes a sports romance like Ginger Scott. She captures the hearts of her athletes perfectly. You don’t have to be a fan of the sport or know anything about it, her words and storytelling will pull you in, let you visualize every move, and have you completely captivated by her characters.
I haven’t watched a boxing match on television since I was a young girl. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t really paying too much attention to it then, either. My grandfather and father were big fans of the sport, and I couldn’t tear my eyes off of them while they were watching it. They would duck, bob and weave as if they were the opponents in the ring. As a young kid, I found that highly amusing. But I remember my grandfather commenting on how the boxers were as light on their feet as some of the finest dancers. Ginger Scott recreated this image for me as I read about Memphis Delaney.
I adored Memphis. Every time I read a novel by this author I end up falling a little bit in love with the male protagonist. He was hard-working, strong, kind, and had so much heart. It didn’t seem to matter what life had thrown at him, he was determined and fully committed to hone his craft and be the best that he could be. He was an admirable man in so many ways. He wasn’t deterred by a bit of hard work or a challenge, which ended up coming in handy when he was trying to get to know Liv Valentine.
This author’s strength is in her ability to create characters. I feel for them, I live the story right alongside of them, and I always find myself in their corners cheering them on. Liv Valentine was a strong, resilient, brave woman. She had experienced her own share of knock downs in her life, but just like any good fighter, she got right back up again. The last thing that she ever wanted to do was get involved with a man like her father – a professional boxer. She knew that lifestyle too well, and she didn’t need to do a repeat of her mother’s life. But Memphis wasn’t like dear old dad. His fortitude and goodness were challenging all of her original beliefs. I just wanted to reach through my Kindle and give her a little push in the right direction – his direction.
I always get a little something more out of Ginger Scott’s novels. As I mentioned, you don’t need to be a sports fan to be a fan of her novels. She will win you over with her heartfelt stories and her perfectly flawed, realistic characters. For Memphis and Liv, regardless of their upbringings or their challenges, they dusted themselves off and got back into the ring, choosing to be the better people. We could probably all use a bit of an athlete’s mentality when dealing with life. Believe. Persevere. Triumph.

There's something about Ginger Scott's writing that suck you in and how she tells a story that compels you. Each word hit the spot and oh the feels. I always look forward to her books and Memphis is no different. I can be picky toward boxer/fighter stories, this was made in a way that you feel the dynamic and the author did terrific incorporating the many facets. The first few pages alone that introduced Liv it was intense and it had a vehemency to her. The build up of the story and how things unfolded had me glued.
Liv's dysfunctional family is burden she carries and coming back to all that was hard. I felt gutted for her and her past, closed off and desensitized to everything but stronger than she looks. In a way how they met at the right time unplanned. Memphis had this charm and persistence about him though she obviously was trying not to succumb it. He was a boxer and that alone made her shy away, there's more to him though. He seems worth it though even with all Liv's hesitancy and they got something more vital growing amidst all the ugly and crazy background noise. Both of them deserved a happy ending after all the stuff they've gone through. I liked both characters a lot, Memphis is adorable and pretty swoony and Liv's strength and tenacity is admirable .
I like the complexity of these characters both Memphis and Liv have had tough upbringing and it shaped the way they are now. Well not totally for Liv she tries to escape for Memphis it was finding a place to settle. They met at this juncture in their lives where this situation is messy for since they have goals. I get how important boxing is to Memphis, it's really a part of him and this book is all about his journey as a fighter. Liv is part of that too since it has connection with her own struggles with her family. Being Memphis' girl is not easy and she wrestles with all the complications that comes with and it's understandable, probably something many athelete partner's deal with and part of that life. Truly proving they are meant to be
I really enjoyed this book from the pace to the overall plot. It had gritty and vivid little details and twists that made it that much more interesting. Of course the romance itself was sweet and steamy, the obstacles they overcame made you relish in their triumph more. The other players are well loathsome in this story still it made more rounded. Ginger Scott has a way with sports romance with heart and feels. Memphis has the winning score card in it's favor.

4.5 stars!! OMG!!
Memphis is definitely my newest book boyfriend! Maybe I just have a weakness for boxers and/or MMA fighters (well, I know I do). However, I also have a major thing for a man who will fight for his woman but also has enough confidence in her to step aside and let her fight her own demons. So, if you happen to like these types of men, then this is a must read for you.

Lost souls find each other sometimes.
I’ve fallen in love with another fighter and it’s all because of new-to-me author, Ginger Scott! A master storyteller, Ginger Scott immediately ensnared me in her trap of words. Like a fighter on the mat, I was hit hard. MEMPHIS, this tender and thrilling tale, UNEQUIVOCALLY OWNED ME and was UTTERLY UNPUTDOWNABLE! I was CONSUMED by Memphis from the very first page, as every word made my HEART FLUTTER and my SOUL STIR.
Memphis, the man, oh where do I start?!? This man is gorgeous inside and out. Fire-hot and fearless. Memphis is so sexy ... so stunning ... so sweet ... so WOW!!! I was under his spell. Memphis had my heart from the start. Memphis, the hero, is the ultimate champion of the heart ... my heart ... PURE PERFECTION!

Confession, this was my first Ginger Scott read. IKR? Where have I been? I've said many times that I have a weakness for broken characters, and she gave me two. They both have painful pasts that haunt them and it's understandable that they have trust issues. But for some reason, they are drawn to each other like a magnet to metal. The question is, will they allow their chemistry to develop into something more, or will they let their fears keep them prisoner?
Olivia has been dealt a bad hand in life. She's stopped believing that the next card will change her luck. It's been one bad experience after another and it's best to not even get her hopes up anymore. But she's not blind. She can't help but admire his form. His muscles. His skill. His...everything. "All he has to do is say one word, any word, and I will forget the rules I made when I was a little girl about kissing boxers."
Memphis is living on his dream to become a champion. He lives a simple life, not requiring much. Just a place to train and another to lay his head at night. He's following in the footsteps of a ghost, learning his way as he goes, trusting his gut. He doesn't need any distractions, but he can't unsee her, unfeel her. Wow! Ginger Scott took me by surprise with this one. Ms. Scott’s latest novel, Memphis, is a contemporary sports romance. The characters are just outside the age range of the author’s usual YA/NA genre. The characters’ backstories and issues make Memphis a bit darker than the author’s usual stories. I don’t recommend this book to younger readers (due to some violence and disturbing scenes); however, I whole-heartedly recommend it to adult readers.
Ms. Scott never fails to deliver an extraordinarily well-written novel. Memphis is well paced, and the story is thoughtfully put together. Olivia’s backstory is revealed in such a way that the tension steadily builds throughout the novel. While the title of the book features the male lead (Memphis), Olivia and her family are the core of the story, and they create the story conflict. Each fact of Olivia and the Valentine family’s history foreshadows a shocking revelation to Memphis as well as a very emotional story zenith.
Memphis is a fantastic character. He had a sad, difficult start in life, but that didn’t turn him bitter or malicious. He is the embodiment of good. He pursues boxing not so much for fame but for a deep desire to live up to his name. Memphis juxtapose to the Valentine clan makes for a clear good vs. evil story. While I find the thought of boxing as a sport disturbing, Memphis is a wholly likable character. He is thoughtful, kind, generous, handsome and charming—yes, basically a sexy boy scout.
Olivia Valentine is the daughter of boxing royalty. Her dad, Archie, might have been king of the ring, but he was no prince. His behavior, along with her mom and uncle’s was reprehensible, and their actions form the foundation of the family’s dysfunctionality. Olivia endured a very negative childhood, and since then she has made one questionable choice after another. This smart, good-looking woman has not had any breaks. I found it easy to emphasize with her situation, but I did find her behavior/choices and reactions rough. While Memphis doesn’t harbor anger about his past, Olivia’s anger and resentment over her past has become her armor. She is happily estranged from her family, yet she returns home when her life tanks (with this group, living on the street might be a better option). Each time her despicable mother, Angela, throws down the gauntlet, Olivia takes the bait instead of ignoring her. Inevitably, it is Olivia’s anger and learned toughness that lead to her brilliant strategy and negotiations.
The secondary characters in Memphis are fantastic. They are fully developed and instrumental to the story every step of the way. The Valentines--Leo, Archie, and Angela are the most horrible family members you could ever imagine. Enoch, Olivia’s ex, is wonderfully dislikable. Charles and Miles are the virtuous secondary characters who positively influence Olivia and Memphis, respectively.
The denouement of Memphis is perfect. Olivia shows just how strong she has become, and she, with the help of Memphis, is her own savior. True to her style, Ms. Scott has made her lead female character not the damsel in distress who needs rescuing, but the strong heroine who saves the day. While there is a lot of anger and possibly ill will at the base of Olivia’s solution, in the end it is redemptive.
I love Ms. Scott’s writing, and even though I don’t find anything appealing about boxing, I thoroughly enjoyed Memphis. The characters are fantastic. The story is heart-wrenching at times and romantic at other times. Ms. Scott’s story of perseverance and redemption also delivers messages of inner strength, honor and generosity.

Memphis by Author Ginger Scott is a standalone, NA, fighter romance.
“I’m not sure I can pinpoint exactly what it was about the way she looked up at the sky, then down at me, but the feeling made a dent in the center of my chest. Not attraction—though she is definitely attractive, in a really interesting way. It’s more of a lingering side-effect type thing, like déjà vu.”
Olivia is coming back to a town she swore she’d never see again. Back to people she left behind for better things. Back to a life that she’d only return to out of necessity and desperation. She has no idea what’s waiting for her though. No thought of the change her life is about to take.
“Memphis Delaney is rare. He also might be worth it.”
Omg! He was so freaking worth it! Whew! This man was what dreams are made of. Perfect in his own way. I loved every side of Memphis. His protective nature, his gentleness. He was a thinker! I adored the way he was all man, but always praised Liv for her beauty and femininity. And when we got to know, I mean REALLY got to know, these characters, there was a feeling that churned deep in the pit of our stomachs that made us giddy with delight and also stand in awe. Memphis was Olivia’s forbidden, her no-go, hands-off, turn-the-other-way-and-run kind of guy. But, she was a unique treasure as well, looking into his soul to see the truth of who he was. You just know this made my heart jump, flutter, and then flit all over the place. Tough love equals passion. Gah! This story had a load of it.
“His story. I am surviving on the very being of him, and I think I have been for a while now.”
Life is filled with fear, but it’s what you do with that fear that either makes you the winner or the one who’s second best; a life lesson I picked up from “Memphis”. This is one of the things that makes Ginger Scott’s writing so unique and cherished. She shows us the beauty of love and teaches us the power of it as well.
“I will wait until you believe I won’t break that promise. Breaking you, Liv, would be one of the biggest regrets of my life. And I just don’t do regrets.”
Memphis was a deep, soul-scorching burn with an intensity that can only be found in a love so pure and devout that it eclipses everything else.
“I’m no champion at all if you’re not there to see it.”

נכון, אנחנו מאוהבת בבחורים הרעים ואלה שיש להם בעיות ואוהבים עד הסוף, אבל יש משהו בבחור טוב, גבר אמיתי וכנה שפשוט ממיס אותי!
זה היה אחד הסיפורים המקסימים והמרגשים שקראתי לאחרונה והבטן שלי מלאה פרפרים טובים בסיום הספר, כי האהבה שוטפת את כולי.
אוליביה וולנטין נולדה למשפחה לא מתפקדת, הם לא מעריכים אותה ולא נמצאים שם בשבילה, כשהחיים שלה מסתבכים היא נאלצת לחזור לגור איתם.
ממפיס, מתאבק ללא משפחה שמנסה לבסס את זהותו בחיים ולהבטיח לעצמו עתיד שיש בו ערך.
הוא מתאמן במכון של אביה והיא מיד מושכת לו את העין.
״אני לא אהיה אלוף אם את לא תהיי שם כדי לראות את זה."
הספר לא רק כתוב נפלא, מלא במשיכה ומתח מיני, הוא מרגש ומלא בתובנות על הדרך שבה אתה צומח מהשברים, מהמקום הנמוך ביותר והופך אלוף אמיתי. לא רק בספורט, אלה בחיים עצמם.
אחרי שהספר גרם לי להתאהב, לחייך ולסחרחורת קלה, אחד המשפטים שנכתבו שם נכנס לי בבום ללב:
