One of the greatest regrets of my youth is that I spent too much time thinking about a respectable career, and far too much time worrying about how to afford the education behind it. Had I followed my dreams and accepted student debt as the price of indulging my passions, I would have become an archaeologist.

While I vividly remember my first adventures with Indiana Jones, Amelia Peabody and Dirk Pitt, what I remember even more is a warm April afternoon wandering a Grassy Brook creek bed . . . an

It seems books with an Egypt locale have been dropping into my reading list and The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh by Carolyn Arnold is the latest one. I feel I am right there with Alex as she begins her descent…

Secrets surround the Lost Pharaoh’s tomb and she is determined to protect it.

What she found was so much more than she expected and she felt that Matthew Connor, her Indiana Jones, would be the perfect person to have at her side.

As a big fan of Carolyn Arnold’s work, every opportunity to read her books is a dream come true. Therefore, when The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh came on my radar, I knew I could not let the chance to read and review this title pass me by. This is the second book in the Matthew Connor Adventure and it is a great addition to the series.

In this installment we meet Alex, an archaeologist who for the first time is leading an archaeological dig. She discovers the possible existence of a magnificent tre

If you enjoyed City of Gold then you are going to absolutely love The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh.

Matthew Connor is back in a new action packed, edge of your seat, treasure hunting mystery. I delved right into this book and I couldn't put it down, I have always loved Egyptian History and it is clear that Arnold has done her homework on it as well as she really made you feel like you were right there with Matthew and Co. as they help out on a archaeological dig of a lifetime.

Another exciting adventure with our intrepid explorers who are desperate to find the Emerald tablets. According to legend these tablets hold untold powers and in the wrong hands could lead to world devastation. The story line and brilliant descriptive writing brings the ancient world of Egypt to life. Egypt holds a fascination for the modern world and all the secrets and myths it holds and this is a novel which takes us on that journey to solve one of them.

What I love about Carolyn’s writing – no matter it be a Madison Knight FBI procedural or a Matthew Connor adventure – is the adventure, action and suspense that comes with every page of the book.

With The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh, not only are we on the edge of our seat with anticipation as we join Matthew, Cal, and Robyn as they seek out out a buried, hidden treasure; we are pulled into the action and suspense of the challenges they face getting to the treasure. One cannot simply find a buried

An exciting adventure that will keep you on your toes!

The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh is an adventurous tale that will give you some history while taking you on a brand new adventure. This story definitely held some intrigue that I had to read it to find out what was going on. I never anticipated the different twists and turns that happened throughout the story. When you think that you have figured it out, you will realize that you were wrong. There was so much intrigue, twist and turns that I d

This book is INTENSE! I love jumping right into a book with a cast of characters who had me hooked from the start. The City of Gold doesn't have to be read prior to The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh; however, you will want to read it when you pick up on the chemistry between the lead characters. So onto the 2nd book here - Matthew Connor is called up by an old friend (with whom there is a bit of outstanding sexual tension) after a near-death experience. He's not one to shy away from an adventure an ...more

Carolyn Arnold has a way of weaving a mystery. The Matthew Connor series is only in its second book and I am waiting for book three. The mysteries are all unique but have that cast of characters to bind them together.

I have always had a love of history. Matthew is an archaeologist who, for lack of a better term, has a reputation for being a treasure hunter. The Secret of the Lost Pharoah takes him and his friends to Egypt. The vivid descriptions of the scenes and the way the dig is handled are s

After reading City of Gold, I anxiously awaited the release of book 2 in the series. I was delighted when the opportunity to read The Secret Of The Lost Pharaoh came about. It was worth the wait!

Matthew Connor has the ability to come off as a spoiled jerk but there is something very endearing about his as well. I love his sense of adventure. What I love most, is that this book starts off featuring Alex as the lead character and then brings Matthew in, along with his best friends Cal and Robyn.

Honestly, I couldn't finish it. Got to 80 pages into it. It was hardly an adventure, of what I read of it. It was more like a romantic triangle soap opera with adventure thrown in a little. I like the reverse, an adventure with a little romance thrown in. Speaking of adventure, it struck as unbelievable that at the start of the story when the archeologist finds some hieroglyphics about the legendary Emerald Tablets, she proclaims in fearfulness something along the lines that the discovery of suc ...more

Matthew Connor was just coming off of an Alaskan mountain adventure when an old friend calls and invites him on an archaeological dig in Egypt. Alex had uncovered a clue that may lead to the legendary Emerald Tablets, something she knew Matthew would be interested in. But what is her angle? Does she truly need his help, or is there an underlying reason to include him? Whatever it is, Matthew is not about to let this opportunity pass him by.

I love how this author can bring stories to life. I felt

This book has it all... action, adventure, Egyptian mysteries, romance, betrayal, death and treasure hunting! Can it get any better than that?

Matthew and his friends have had a quiet time since their last adventure, and Matthew is itching for an adventure. When an old friend contacts him about the Emerald Tablets, which are basically his Holy Grail, he jumps at the chance and tries to convince his friends to join his team.

As always, Matthew and friends go on one of the world's most amazing adven

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

I enjoyed this book a lot. It’s a cross between Indiana Jones and The Mummy and gives really good background to the characters.

I liked Cal most of all as his character really comes out in the book, sometimes quirky, serious or funny and a very genuine likeable character.

The twist near the end of the book worked very well and it was written in a way that wasn’t obviously coming at you.

Carolyn Arnold makes you feel the heat of the desert sun as well as the chill of an underground tomb. I couldn’t put it down and once it ended, I wanted more. If you love a good mystery with a lot of history and intrigue then I recommend you read Carolyn Arnold’s latest series.

Welcome to Egypt! A traveler's dream and an archaeologist's playground; where the sand is hot and the sun is brutal. Over the years the mysteries of the sands have been discovered, but how could one map where every single secret lies? In this realistic fiction novel, author Carolyn Arnold gives hope that not all knowledge has been found.

Matthew is a world renowned treasure hunter who wishes to leave his mark on the world.

". . .legacies came in many forms, and they weren't always flesh and blood.

I dig books about archaeology. It’s been a dream of mine to visit some of the ancient cities and pyramids that have been uncovered, and I couldn’t wait to join these character’s in their adventure.

The story begins with Alex, an Egyptologist, who discovers a secret in the sand that could be the end of mankind if it falls into the wrong hands.. The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh by Carolyn Arnold is the 2nd book in her Matthew Connor series. Matthew Connor, our hero, is a famed Archaeologist, whom we tend to look at like a modern day Indiana Jones. I am happy to say, that I really enjoyed The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh. Original review posted on my blog From Ink to Paper

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my second Carolyn Arnold book that I have got to read for a review and I am glad that I got this opportunity. I am a huge ancient history buff so this book sounded right up my alley with some mystery, some historical fiction, and cool treasure finds of ancient Egypt! I have not read the first in the series, but you don't need to have read it to understand what is going on.

This is the second in the new series with protagonist archaeologist and adventurer Matthew Connor. Matthew includes Robyn Garcia and his buddy Cal Myers.

This is the second title in the Matthew Connor action-adventure series and works perfectly as a stand-alone read.

The story starts with archaeologists Alex and Jasper looking at the hieroglyphics in a tunnel they have just discovered under the Egyptian desert which they decipher as meaning that a pharaoh son of Khufu is buried nearby, although we are about 200 miles away from the Great Pyramid. And that is not all, it also points to the Emerald Tablets, which from legend are rumoured to turn base
