This book in all honesty surprised me. I am not into murder mysteries, don’t care for dark suspense books all that much. I’m a sucker for the love, for the romance, and for the passion. This book doesn’t have much of it, although it does sizzle a bit in the background throughout the first 70%, it’s there, slowly brewing up, and then we finally get a kiss and eventually some more, then lots more. And by more, im saying it got good. This was a good book, I did enjoy it, just wish I got more, for m ...more

Opa!!!

Celia Aaron ventured into the romantic suspense drama as a sub-genre to the those oldies noir crime mysteries...and yet she gave its layer a new shine and colour.

I'm not gonna go all deep and insightful into the story, the blurb already provides you enough suspense and alluring mysterious hints of a deeper ploy

3.5 stars + 1 extra 🌟 for the strong heroine!

Loved the heroine!
Strong and intelligent woman.
She didn't wet her panties, she didn't drool over the hero, she didn't embarrass herself.
Gotta love woman in charge! 😎

Well-passed crime story. Good romance.
I got a bit lost with all the characters, but overall it was a very satisfying read.

Safe!
He was not a manwhore!
No OW at all.
Sweet epilogue!

Benton King, a wealthy Mississippi lawyer, gets the surprise of his life when he walks into his father’s office one morning to find him dead via a bullet wound to the head. His father, a well-liked member of the community, owns the law firm where they both work and leads a relatively drama free life. The fact that not much seems to be missing from the building and Mr. King’s lack of known enemies makes his murder more than a little perplexing.

I’ve always been a fan of Celia Aaron’s books, but when I read this line from the blurb, This is a full-length mystery with a slow-burn romance, I knew this book was going to be different from what I’ve come to expect. The romance definitely took a back seat in this plot. The story centered around the murder of a prominent figure in the community and the secrets and lies that brewed within the small town of Azalea, Mississippi. Arabella was the lead detective on the case and Benton was the e ...more

Arabella Matthews is an Azalea city police detective and a single parent. Assigned as lead on the homicide case, she effortlessly takes charge. Knowing the city has limited resources, Arabella must accept reinforcements from the Sheriff’s department. Accepting the help wouldn’t be too bad except for the King name and how they view citizens from her neighborhood.

A great romantic suspense read!

This was such a good read!
Well rounded main characters who for both the author peels back the layers at the perfect speed.
A mystery that wasn’t super easy to figure out.
Crimes that were interesting.
Side characters that you want to more know from, and actually ADD that something to the story.
A murder in a small town that is filled to the brim with secrets that are just waiting to be found out!

I stop listening at 70%.

It is not that there is something wrong here, it is simply that I don't find this story interesting. I am not into the investigation because the suspense is barely existent,it has nothing juicy enough to keep me intrigued there, and I have been waiting too long for the romance. After a 70% of the story, a few hints about a romantic interest are not sufficient for me. That, coupled with the fact that I couldn't care less for the plot, made me loose my patience and I dec

This romantic suspense novel was a different type of read than I have come to expect from Celia Aaron.
It took me a while to get into this story and relate to the characters involved, in addition to this being more of a slow burn romance to begin with .
It did however turn out to be quite an engaging read with an interesting storyline and was also surprisingly way less smutty than I would have expected from this author.
I really liked this more suspenseful type of read from Celia even t

I have to thank my friend Alex for leading me to this one! I loved it! I loved the heroine and the hero, I loved the secondary characters- especially Vivi! The mystery was done really well! I liked Porter, but he is such a manwhore I don't think I could read a book about him. Hopefully Charlotte will get a book!

Benton carries the notorious last name of King, one half of the town's law firm, King and Wallace. His attitude matches the name, he's handsome, stuck up, and incredibly put out by anything that interferes with his life, at least that's what Arabella Matthews thinks. When his father is murdered he's stuck with the sheriff, his clown of a brother, and the towns B-team cops, Arabella and Jason. Arabella is excited for the change in pace, tired of the silly things she does each day, but a

I like stories featuring small towns in the South. I almost always find interesting characters and the town itself becomes a feature player. Put a little murder mystery into the mix and a cover that makes you take a second look, and I'm excited for the read.

The story begins with the murder of the most prominent man in the county, attorney Randall King. Turns out that Randall King has been keeping secrets that may have let to his death. His eldest son, by-the-book Benton King is determined to so

I've enjoyed everything I have read by Celia Aaron, and this time was no different. What was different was what I've come to expect from her. The romance was there, but I felt like it was not the main focus, and even though the tiny moments I got were deliciously hot and sweet, they left me wanting more. I know this was a slow burn romance but o

When I saw this book was being released, it was one of the books that would go on my automatically wanting to read list as I love Celia Aaron as an author. Their father Randall King is one of the pillars of the community and owns the law firm where his son is set to inherit. I wanted to like this more but I’m sorry I didn’t. I enjoyed the dual povs and an H who wasn’t a manho. He was a bit prickly and snobby in the beginning, but he grew on me. I also liked that this wasn’t full of sex scenes. There was one kind of meaningful scene and that’s it.

However, once I finished this book, I couldn’t get past the feeling that everything was superficial. The connection that the MCs felt for one another, the character development, and even the suspense felt very much at the s

Small town Azalea, Mississippi doesn’t know what has hit them! The King family is the top notch of this small town. The men are highly sought after from the single ladies in town. When the patriarch of the family turns up murdered in his own law office, the town goes into overdrive to find out who is responsible for the killing.

Arabella is familiar with Azalea. She spent many days driving around wishing she was part of the families from the other side of the track

I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to voluntarily leave a review. This is my very first ever Celia Aaron book and I was extremely impressed how much I enjoyed it. So this book is a murder mystery with a love story wrapped in. This booked reminded me of Tami Hoag's writing.

With a "beloved" member of the community being murdered and having a hidden life. The cops have very little to go on and the family doesn't seem to want to help or know anything.

Detective Arabella Matthews is a single mother and head detective in this town. She is a no-nonsense kind of person. She has no time for love or peoples crap. When she and her partner Logan are called into the
