Jodi It's about teens, but adults can certainly get into it. I would recommend it for 15 and up.

It wasn’t the best example of the fantasy genre but surprisingly this book hooked me from the beginning, glued to my fingers, captured my mind even it’s quite mash up of Stranger Things concept waltz with some Black Mirror episodes and finally doing Macarena dance with “Ready Player One” and takes a bow after the powerful performance accompanied by “Nerve” (Emma Roberts and brother Franco teamed up for deadly truth or dare concept) There are also some vibes of “Ready Player One” hid inside that ...more

In all honesty, I requested this book mainly because the blurb said that it’s a lot like Stranger Things and they were right!

I wouldn’t call it a complete ‘fantasy’ but there’s some aspects of fantasy in it.

There’s a group of five friends each dealing with their own problems when two of them (Charlie and Peter) discover this “God Game’. At first they don’t think much about it, they think it’s just someone messing with them behind the screen but then it starts

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book at BEA.

This book was AMAZING! I literally could not put it down!

It is Ready Player One meets Nerve and will keep you reading until the very last page!

Buy this book when it comes out in 2020!!! You won't regret it!!!

The God Game may sound at first like yet another juvenile sci-fi journey, but it is as incredibly addictive as any video game ever made. Once you start reading this, it's impossible to put down. On the one hand, it's a modern version of Revenge of the Nerds. On the other hand, it's a complex morality play. And, on yet another hand (there are lots of hands), what happens when you build an artificial intelligence that's convinced it's God. Is it a game or is it real? At one point do reality and ...more

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

The God Game is the most peculiar, exciting and brilliant book I've read in a long time.
The writing is perfect, the characters well rounded and so real, so relatable (Alex and Charlie were really perfect) it hurts, the plot captivating and chilling.
Everything starts with a chatbot, the God game, that answer any kind of question, an AI that claims to be God and starts sending messages on Charlie's and his friends' phones,

Even though I don't read science fiction very often and don't consider myself a gamer (my Atari/Nintendo/Super Nintendo playing experience in the 80s and 90s doesn't count right?), I actually enjoyed this book. Now, I'm not going to pretend I understood everything the author was going for here but this was a fascinating read for me and is a good example of how I need to branch out of my reading comfort zone every once in awhile.

Charlie and his friends are seniors in high school. They call

Wow was this good! I really wasn't sure about this book, since it was taking place with high school students being the central characters. However this is not a young adult book. Is it possible that G.O.D. exists through a computer, these five friends will find out. Just when you say you "I didn't see that coming." You will say it again and again.

"Life is bullsh*t, Charlie. There's no fairness, no justice, unless we make it." - The God Game by Danny Tobey

OMG THIS BOOK IS THE BEST THRILLER I'VE EVER READ THIS YEAR!!! It was like a hybrid between Black Mirror and Nerve!

It was a page-turner book, made me feel claustrophobic, and triggered my anxiety!

The story started when Charlie got an invitation to play a game, along with his friends. But the game was created by a mysterious AI that believes it's God
The game promised if you win, ALL YOUR

This was an intriguing look into the world of artificial intelligence and how it's proliferating in our society. Set in a high school (my favorite setting), the novel follows Charlie and his band of misfit "Vindicators" as they are invited to play a game with "God" on their computers. Of course they are awestruck as the game seems to know things about them that no one else can; and it appears to be able to follow them on their phones and in real life as well. So when it begins to offer them ...more

The premise of The God Game is deliciously clever. Imagine a brutal, bloody take on Pokemon Go designed by a malevolent and omniscient A.I. who happens to believe it is God. A machine learning algorithm trained on all of history's sacred and philosophical texts. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. And apparently the Lord commandeth a flash mob army of faceless thugs to terrorize a gang of misfit high school students.

The plot is dazzlingly fast-paced with deftly structured, suspenseful

This should be a YA smash! It's like a mash-up of Ready Player One and Unfriended: Dark Web.
This story has a familiar vibe, but it is so well-written, so engaging and thrilling that I'm giving it four stars.

Charlie Lake and a small group of his friends hang out in the tech lab at Turner High School in Austin, Texas. There they do coding and come up with epic school pranks. They are all intelligent and are somewhat "outsiders".

They are lured into a game that is powered by AI (artificial

Like I said in my updates, this reads like a scaled-down An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. Also, it resembles Black Mirror season 3 episode 3 and the movie Unfriended: Dark Web.

So it reminds me of a lot of stories. I think it's a well thought out story. The author clearly poured himself into the work. There are the morality dilemmas, the philosophical problems, the programming part. All of these are issues the author's familiar with, and he took advantage of all the expertise he has.

But because it

This one is about a video game that everyone's into, literally. It's "Ready Player One" without the nostalgia.

The heroes of the story play the game online then get real-life rewards. As you can imagine, things start to turn rotten when the AI insists that the players do things that aren't nice.

(Sidebar: In my review stack, this is the third book in a row that deals with AI that goes rogue. Maybe "Terminator" and "The Matrix" were streaming at the same time when the books' writers were

The God Game was an intriguing and captivating work. The world and characters were well developed, and the story unfolded at a good pace, upping the tension throughout. The book had an interesting premise, particularly in light of every-growing IT abilities and the fact that the idea of something like this happening could be a possibility in the future. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish, waiting to see how things would play out, and I found the ending satisfying. This is a solid ...more

This is not the genre that I would normally read but received an ARC from St Martin’s Press and literally could not put it down! It’s a dark, thriller fantasy. A group of high school kids get involved in an online game that literally takes over their lives. It is supposedly the voice of GOD. It will be published in January, 2020. You need to read this book!!

Amazing! Like slender man and ready player one combined but instead of saving the world these have to save themselves before they lose the game, and die. Kinda scary but realistically could happen and makes me want to double and triple check what my kids are doing online.

I can’t wait to push this book into the hand of my students!

What could go wrong when you are invited to play a game that has the potential to give you everything you’ve ever wanted? What if you know that you could have it all-but that it would come at the expense of others? Would you still play?

That’s the premise behind Danny Tobey’s “The God Game”, a fast paced thriller that puts you in the front seat as a group of teenagers on the cusp of adulthood are pulled into a game where they can

This book takes time to digest. Your mind will keep analyzing this story days after you finish reading it. The possibility that all this can/will happen is frightening. To begin, Charlie loses his Mom to cancer. He tried to care for her and keep his Dad and himself from falling apart. Things that mattered before her death no longer seem important. He retreats from the world and searches for meaning online.

At Charlies’s school there is a group of tech savvy kids that like to pull the occasional
