Oh! My Goodness! You know if it is Madeline Martin doing the writing, there will be a handsome Highlander. You would never believe this is Martin’s first Regency period book. She nailed it! Way to go! Of the books I’ve read in this series so far – this is my favorite. How many authors could give you a full-length book in a novella? You get one here. Nothing is skimped on – you get fully developed and very relatable characters, a well-written,

It's official ! Alistair is now my 2nd fav Earl in this series. He has usurped the second spot from Earl of Pembroke. The first place is still Earl of Westcliff but I have about 4 more novellas to read so that might change. I am enjoying the "Wicked Earls' Club" series so much ! It's wonderful reading about these hot guys getting married one after the other. Alistair is the hot, brawny, tall, handsome, long haired and blue eyed studly, kilt wearing Earl of Benton. Earl of Benton by Madeline Martin is Book Nine in the "Wicked Earls Club" series. This is the story of Alistair Johnstone and Emma Thorne. This is easily a standalone book.

Now with just a month away from turning 25 and taking over her inheritance, her Uncle has turned to trying to kill her. When her Maid Jenny is fo

A fast paced adventure from beginning to end, I loved the story of Emma and Alistair. Literally running for her life, Emma is trying to escape her guardian uncle who is trying to kill her. Kill her you say? Well, she is about to inherit a fortune when she comes of age which is just in a few weeks and of course he wants it himself! Fleeing to a nearby estate, she runs into Alistair Johnstone, the Earl of Benton who is at a house party with members of the Wicked Earls club. Desperate to get away h ...more

“It would appear we both have our secrets.”
A fast-paced adventure of trust and falling in love. Filled with murder, villains, suspense, and a slow building romance., Characters were interesting and had my attention quickly. Well written and a good addition to the Wicked Earls Club series.

Great story, fabulous characters (I especially loved Madge), and for a novella, a brilliantly done conflict/resolution plot that didn’t feel rushed. 5*

Another delightful adventure from Madeline Martin. Alistair helps Emma out of a difficult situation and they develop a relationship that they are both unprepared for. This was a most enjoyable, easy to read story that was difficult to put down until the end. I loved the inclusion of Alistair’s dog Beast in the story as well. Read the blurb it gives a good synopsis; I don’t want to give anything away. This is a book well worth picking up, as are any of Madeline Martin’s books. She is truly a mast ...more

An Easy read!
This is Alistair and Emma's love story and I loved the way these two characters play against each other as they fall in love.
Also thrown in for good measure is their adventure with whisky running, his crazy mother and her greedy uncle and cousin - all of this makes the story easy to read and very enjoyable.

I found this a good book. Emma is running for her life from her uncle who tried to kill her. The Earl of Benton saves her life. Can they find redemption together.

Every time I pick up one of Madeline Martin's books, my heart gets shredded. She creates such characters that they find a way to get under my skin and make me care so much about them. I then find myself on the edge of my seat when they get into trouble, praying they get out of it. And her happy endings...they bring tears to my eyes every time. (Is this where I use "all the feels"?)

Emma and Alistair were no different. I loved how perfect they were together, even when they weren't together. And w

This is another amazing contribution to the Wicked Earl's Club. Madeline Martin tells the story of an Earl who inherits his title from his English grandfather but Alistair is half Scottish and that is the side of the family he is most at home with. When his Scottish mother makes a deal to smuggle whiskey, Alistair steps in to make sure they both don't get arrested.

What a fun idea the Wicked Earls Club is! Different heroes, heroines and the authors who wrote them. The connection is that the heroes belong to the club until they are engaged or married.

Alistair Johnston inherited an English earldom to his mother’s dismay. She preferred he live in Scotland and help her smuggle whiskey. He had gone to English schools before inheriting the title and sends her money to repair their old castle. At a Wicked Earls Club party in the country, he finds Emma Thorne hid

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this book, I think possibly more than her other books. I liked that Emma was not the perfect, beautiful female character normally found in romance stories. She was a character that had curves and insecurities. Alistair was not a super, he-man male character often portrayed in other romance stories either. Both had their flaws and struggles, did what needed to be done and managed to find what they didn't know they we ...more

I was looking forward to reading the story of another Earl from the Wicked Earls Club; this time the story of the Earl of Benton. Ms. Martin did an amazing job with this novella. It read more like a full novel. There was plenty of character development which novellas often lack. And the story itself was so engaging that I could not put it down. Some scenes made me laugh out loud. But most of the time I was on the edge of my seat holding my breath. Without giving any spoilers I can only say that ...more

Fabulous Read! Madeline Martin’s Earl Of Benton is part of a 12 book series written by 12 different authors. Each book acts as a stand alone. Madeline never disappoints in her writing. I can’t wait for her next book to be released. Her characters come alive and can be rude and funny at the same time. Madeline’s descriptions are right on and detailed so you don’t miss a beat. This is a charming, steamy story of rescue, protection, smuggling, deceit, greed, prejudice, innocents, devotion, murder, ...more

Let me start this by saying that I received this as an ARC for an honest opinion. I LOVED this book! The hero, Alistair, I mean who can go wrong with a name like that, and his heroine, Emma, are just so likable. Alistair and Emma are thrown together in an unfortunate circumstance and they end up falling for each other. This book has it all- murder, mystery, love, and a happy ending. Every book that I read by this author is superb! If you are looking for a good Scottish hunk and his bonny lass, l ...more

Emma is so innocent yet trusts Alistair from the beginning. Alistair, despite being a member of the Wicked Earls' Club, actually impressed me with his consideration for others and Emma's predicament. Madge, Alistair's mother, is a quirky character, and I enjoyed her. I highly recommend this book.

This book was such a joy to read. It was short and sweet but had a complete novel in it. Murder suspense, adventure , romance and of course your handsome Scottish highlander. Madeline knows how to create characters you can relate to and you just have to love Alistairs dog Beast. This book was a nice change from your usual Ton/ballroom stories but not heavy as some Scottish stories can be. Well worth reading. I received this book as an ARC but have ordered it to keep to read again.
