I've found the TV series quite good from what little I've seen and hope to find the chance to be able to read the book one day... either most desirably to be able to fully read it in Chinese or firstly translated into English. I can't believe Miss Tian is also the brains behind "Rise of The Phoenixes". She certainly has a knack for creating badass heroines! No wonder it inspired two critically acclaimed TV series and a large fanbase/interest! Can't wait to see more of her works and I so wanna read the original inspiration for 'The Story of Yanxi Palace' and 'Ashes of Love'! 2018 was sure a year for Chinese dramas to prosper! ( and 2017 'The General and I' & 'The Princess Weiyoung'). There must be something in the air about Chinese books-turned-TV-series and hope the trendy wave continues (Love O2O the hit it was was also a book)
Gui Yuan offers a breathtaking world of martial arts, strong female characters, stunning cultivation techniques , bracing xianxia culture, and an epic romance with rippling consequences across time and space.
The drama novel , "Legend of Fuyao" is about Fuyao, an orphan who is also the female lead in the story. Growing up, she was one of the lowest ranking servants in the Xuanyuan sect, but with her dissatisfaction of her destiny and unruly nature it leads her to chart her very own route in life. The relationship between her and Yan Jingchen (her crush at that time) caused severe jealousy in Pei Yuan who has a crush on Yan Jingchen so her hatred develops to the point she tries to harm Fuyao in as many ways possible. Simultaneously, Fuyao discovers the hidden martial art practice of the Xuanyuan sect and stirs the 5-layered spell inside herself that she has been reviled with. With awakening the 5 layered spell she's slowly wakening the evil Di Fei Tian without knowing/little effort. Later on in the story, she meets the male lead, Wuji also known as Crown Prince of Tianquan Kingdom their relationship begins to blossom until they eventually become lovers. Unfortunately Wuji is the chosen one to kill the person awakening the evil Di Fei Tian before it's too late. What will happen between the two lovers? Will Wuji kill Fuyao to save the people of his kingdom?
I feel this book was particularly weak in the area of story line. The way of direction will cause the readers to be confused including myself at times. As a delicate female lead how is that Fuyao is capable to ruin a very powerful/mystical move, Nine Clouds throughout the beginning of the story however gets knocked out a 100 times from the back? Also, the plot gets dragged on a bit too much in the middle of the story. New adventures occur in different kingdoms which cause more characters to be introduced. But the downfall is that these characters are in for a short period of time before they disappear or get killed which makes me wonder what was the point of introducing these characters in the first place?
I really appreciated the acting in this story. The portrayal of Fuyao. She is demonstrated as being troublesome and disobedient in some scenes in the book but she is also able to be mature when the scenario calls for it. As the story progresses, us as readers can feel her emotions developing. The role of Wuji was nailed perfectly. He correctly portrayed the vanity and playful aspect of the personality with his smirks that made him appear actually cocky. A few of the crying scenes appeared a bit overdone with his exaggeration however, the chemistry between the two leads is precise and it helped to lift the book convincingly to its ultimate conclusion. Without an amazing chemistry, the love story would have truly fallen short.
This story is honestly an amazing story yes, there were some faults but it fulfilled it's purpose undeniably. If you're planning on reading this book keep in mind there is violence (sword fighting, poison) and some scenes that include Wuji being shirtless so the maturity level would be 13+. I rate this book a 4.0 because of its story line but other than that it was amazing. I recommend this book to those who love to read love stories, dramas, with a bit of mystery and fighting.
>.> ok so look mostly I've watched the drama a few times however I did go looking for novel translations etc
... I actually don't hate how the drama redid things as compared to what was described about the novel...
But I did get annoyed at how awful ~everyone/the [families] started being towards the end [and omfg wtf re: WJ's dad... and T_T I really like that actor so him being the worst kinda broke my heart.]
I personally don't love time travel stuff so that's also why I wasn't mad the drama deviated from the source material. ... *sigh* I still wish the last episode had been done differently/we weren't stuck with literally 20 min of FY jumping around stabbing WJ as she was a demon... especially since we only get like 90 seconds of HEA " " at the end. I still like a friend's interpretation best that either they were already immortals and the whole drama was their human trial or they were mortals and after Going Through All That Shit they became immortals.
... I also really like so much of the main cast - obviously love YM and ER, and LY, and WJ's "sidekick/bodyguard" and VG so ... yeah <3 and wasn't mad the SFL was goofy but still kinda kickass too. 💯
Fictional chinese ⛩ drama/romance, great story, excellent characters, heroine & hero combination really works, watch episodes on ViKi if you’re not a reader.
